Chapter 89: 75

Two movies were shown, one about a gun-toting old lady and another about guerrilla warfare, leaving the villagers wanting more. They continued to talk about the films for several days.

After the birthday banquet for Fourth Grandpa, Lan Tian resumed her regular student life. Since Mo Junhua left, there had been no news from him. At first, Lan Tian was concerned, thinking he might have some scheme in mind, but as time passed, she also forgot about that person.

In the backyard vegetable garden, the Gathering Spirit Grass, nourished daily by Lan Tian’s Spiritual Energy, reached a fifty-year growth, enough to set up a miniature Spirit Gathering Array. Lan Tian asked Mo Yuanle to plow two separate vegetable rows for her to plant Spiritual Vegetables. The seeds were saved from her own stock – one row planted carrots and spinach, which have a longer growth period, and the other row planted bok choy and beets, which have a shorter cycle.

When the girl wanted to plant vegetables, Grandma Sun and Zhao Li came to help, but Lan Tian declined their kind offers, preferring to plant them herself. The three adults watched as Lan Tian scattered the seeds, covered them with soil, sprinkled some water, and then left them be. Grandma Sun and Zhao Li shook their heads and advised her that’s not how you plant seeds – they shouldn’t be sown too densely; there must be some space in between so that the carrots can grow properly.

Lan Tian felt embarrassed; she hadn’t done any farming for decades and had even forgotten the basic knowledge of planting. The seeds were already sown and covered with soil; there was no turning back now. Let it be! If they didn’t sprout, she would think of a solution then.

However, Zhao Li asked, "Girl, what about those grasses of yours?"

Upon Zhao Li’s inquiry, Grandma Sun noticed for the first time that the dozens of precious Gathering Spirit Grass that her granddaughter planted had disappeared. No wonder the land looked different before?

The Gathering Spirit Grass was concealed by the Array, invisible to the naked eyes of ordinary people. Lan Tian casually replied, "I needed to plant vegetables, so I pulled them."

Zhao Li had just casually asked and simply uttered an ’Oh’ without further question. She didn’t pay much attention to the grass; if it was pulled, then it was pulled. Grandma Sun, on the other hand, was surprised – the grass had been so cherished before, so why was it pulled out now? Mo Yuanle, as wooden as ever, stood to the side, watching the three of them mess around with planting. He had no say in this matter.

The next day, seedlings emerged from the ground, a layer of green tips. Zhao Li came over and muttered in amazement at how quickly the vegetables had sprouted. Lan Tian just smiled; she had secretly come over at night and sprinkled spiritual water. It would have been surprising if they didn’t sprout; after sprinkling the water, she left.

The bok choy and beets that Lan Tian planted grew well, changing every day. In just three days, they reached the height of a palm, tender and lush, making one’s mouth water. Unable to resist, Lan Tian picked a basketful for Zhao Li to stir-fry for eating. During the meal, everyone realized that the vegetables Lan Tian grew seemed sweeter and crunchier than those grown at home, and the texture was better.

Lan Tian told Grandma Sun and Zhao Li that from now on, they could pick the vegetables she grew for the household. If they ran out, she would plant more, and they could tell her whatever they wanted to plant. Grandma Sun and Zhao Li had a vague feeling that the vegetables must be related to the girl, but beyond that, they didn’t know.

Time flew by, and Lan Tian graduated from middle school. After six years of cultivation, her cultivation had progressed from the eighth layer of Qi Cultivation to Qi Cultivation Great Perfection, all thanks to the spiritual land of Taohua Valley and the Spiritual Medicine within. She had also made minor achievements in Body Cultivation Technique. Over the years of cultivation, Lan Tian had deliberately slowed down her progress, which made her realm more stable, and she was quite satisfied with her cultivation level. She hadn’t experienced such rapid advancement in her previous life, despite decades of cultivation, even with the aid of elixirs, and had only reached Qi Cultivation Great Perfection.

Now, having reached the same level of cultivation in just a few years, she was far better off than in her previous life. There was no rush; she embraced the natural flow of things, and her state of mind unknowingly entered the Late-stage Foundation Establishment.

Lan Tian was not in a hurry to establish her Foundation. She had undergone Heavenly Tribulation in her past life, and she was not keen to experience that pain again at present. Besides, she didn’t have any Magic Artifacts in this life, and a single lightning strike would end her. She planned to go on an adventure to gather materials to refine magical treasures, preparing for Foundation Establishment.

After dinner, Lan Tian stopped Zhao Li, who was about to stroll through the village.

"Auntie, I’ve made progress in my power; let me take your pulse." Lan Tian’s cultivation had reached the Qi Refining Late Stage, which gave her more confidence in treating Zhao Li’s illness. She hadn’t mentioned it before because her cultivation level was low and she couldn’t do much. Bringing it up would only make Zhao Li feel worse.

As for minor health issues such as cold womb, thin endometrium, and unhealthy uterus, she could easily treat them.

Zhao Li, who had reached the front yard, paused in her step.

The atmosphere in the house was a bit strange. Mo Yuanle’s expression seemed even more wooden as he got up and sat down under the camphor tree in the yard. Grandma Sun sighed and looked at Lan Tian, wanting to say something but hesitating. With such a bizarre atmosphere at home, Lan Tian was completely baffled. What was going on?

"Did I say something wrong?" Lan Tian asked Grandma Sun, who just shook her head and sighed, saying nothing.

Zhao Li turned back, sat opposite Lan Tian, and placed her wrist on the table. Lan Tian’s fingers touched hers, and her Divine Sense entered Zhao Li’s body, starting from the internal organs.

"Why is it like this?" Lan Tian looked at Zhao Li in shock and disbelief. Her Divine Sense swept over Zhao Li’s abdomen again – nothing, still nothing there.

"Auntie, who did this?" Lan Tian’s anger surged, wishing she could capture the person responsible and torture their soul, refine their essence into a Puppet, which still wouldn’t quench her fury.

What kind of quack would dare remove my aunt’s uterus.

"Did you find out?" Zhao Li smiled faintly. She had long come to terms with it and gently patted Lan Tian for comfort.

"It’s not the doctor’s fault. Those people were crazy back then. Your uncle had offended some higher-ups by joining the army. When they came to make trouble at our house, they were rather insane. I was pregnant and got pushed to the ground. Your uncle was taken away too. I bled a lot; the whole village saw it. Those people, afraid of causing a death, took me to the town’s health clinic. They said your uncle didn’t deserve to have descendants and had my..."

"Aunt, I’m sorry." Lan Tian suddenly burst into tears holding Zhao Li, feeling useless herself. How great it would be if she still had her portable cave abode, filled with elixirs, surely there would be one that could regenerate organs.

No wonder in the previous life, Mo Yunle and Zhao Li never had children; she had always thought it was because Zhao Li couldn’t conceive. She was not infertile; she was unable to conceive, for how could she without a uterus.

Bearing the villagers’ strange glances and behind-the-back whispers, she lived a stifled life.

"Why cry, silly child? Your auntie has made peace with it." Lan Tian cried like a baby, which made Zhao Li feel amused, heartache, and sweetness all at once, and she wiped her niece’s tear-streaked face. "Don’t I have you? Aren’t you my own daughter? When I’m old, won’t you take care of me?"

"I will, definitely. I’ll even give you a big, chubby grandson," Lan Tian said, sniffling.

"There you have it, you little girl with big ideas; don’t think too much about crazy stuff. Study hard, and let our family produce a college graduate. Let those gossiping shrews in the village be envious."

"Don’t worry, auntie. I will definitely get into university," Lan Tian promised, thumping her chest.

Mo Yuanle and Grandma Sun, who were in the courtyard listening to Lan Tian and Zhao Li’s conversation, breathed a sigh of relief. Zhao Li had truly moved on, and it was all because of Lan Tian, who had received all of Zhao Li’s motherly love.

Using Spiritual Energy to nourish Zhao Li’s body, Lan Tian shouted to Mo Yuanle who was sitting in the yard, "Uncle, I’ll remove the scar from your face!"

Lan Tian was confident that once the scar on Mo Yuanle’s face was removed, he would become a handsome middle-aged man, a perfect match for the beautiful Zhao Li, like a harmony between a man and a woman.

Over the years, with the nourishment from Spiritual Vegetables, the health of everyone at home had improved tremendously. Though it was not as noticeable for Mo Yuanle, because he was darker in complexion, the difference was significant for Grandma Sun and Zhao Li. Compared to others their age in the village, they looked a decade younger.

This change wasn’t abrupt; it accumulated slowly and subtly over time. The villagers, who saw them every day, didn’t think much of it except that Grandma Sun and Zhao Li appeared healthier, perhaps due to the joy of having a child at home.

"No need, I’m quite fine as it is." Mo Yuanle glanced at Zhao Li and rejected Lan Tian’s offer, standing up to walk out of the courtyard.

"Auntie, what about my uncle?" Lan Tian stamped her feet in protest. Zhao Li was helpless; although she could deal with the scars on Uncle’s face, he wouldn’t let her.

"Let it be! I’ve gotten used to it over the decades. If you removed it, I’d think there’s a stranger sleeping beside me in the middle of the night - it wouldn’t feel right."

The girl acts recklessly without considering the consequences, unchecked she could poke a hole in the sky. If Mo Yuanle suddenly lost his scars, the village would be in an uproar. What kind of ointment could erase decades-old scars? Who knows what troubles that could stir up.

Since even Zhao Li said so, Lan Tian had to let it go, regretfully though, as she had recently prepared some ointments after visiting Peach Valley. She handed Zhao Li several small jars, "For nourishing the body. The weather’s dry; perfect for brewing tea, everyone at home can drink it."

Lan Tian had graduated, and now Grandma Sun and the others were worried about whether she should go to high school in the county town or the provincial city. Lan Tian had no preference, since her mastery of various spells was ingrained in her heart, and going to the provincial city was merely a two-hour trip.

After six years of deep slumber, Little Tao finally woke up, her Cultivation level dropping from Nascent Soul Stage to Foundation Establishment Stage. All day long, she nagged Lan Tian, claiming her fall was all Lan Tian’s fault.

Fed up with the nagging, Lan Tian threatened to split Little Tao open and refine her into a peach wood sword, which made her keep quiet. Little Tao always talked too much but with a powerful, heaven-defying Master protecting her, she wasn’t tired of living yet. Looking back, she couldn’t understand why she had such a foolish thought; even now, she doesn’t understand, but she obediently follows Lan Tian’s commands.

One day, when Lan Tian returned home from Taohua Valley, she saw many children gathered outside the yard, along with childhood friends Shitou and Tie Jun, now all sturdy youths. Upon seeing Lan Tian return, they pulled her aside, chattering just like when they were kids.

The gist was that a group of uninvited guests had arrived, probably from the city, and were talking to Grandma Sun and Mo Yuanle in the yard. Later, Fourth Grandpa also came and had been talking with them all afternoon.
