Counted the days, he’s about to meet Bai Lianhua soon, must be these days.
Tearing open the envelope, another full five pages of nothing but trivial matters: training, studying, and some funny incidents happening in the troop. Upon reading the last sentence, Lan Tian was stunned—Mo Junhua was coming back, in a month.
Neither holiday nor festival, why is he coming back?
What about Bai Lianhua?
Four years without seeing each other, Lan Tian’s impression of him has blurred. Coming back in a month, she’d already be back in school, no chance for them to meet, military leaves are tight—he couldn’t stay for many days.
Caught a glimpse of the date on the letter, June 28th, last month’s letter. This month, already over a month passed, meaning Mo Junhua is coming back in a few days.
Lan Tian snorts, tosses the letter under the bed; whether Mo Junhua comes back has nothing to do with her. Hasn’t slept well in ages, lying down, sleepiness overcomes her, yawning—sleep, the greatest, she’s still a child, won’t grow without sleep.
This sleep was sweet, Lan Tian woke up at noon the next day. Outside, brilliant sunshine, azure sky, clouds floating, a beam of sunlight through the roof slit, glaring on the bed, uncomfortable, Lan Tian squinted her eyes.
"Girl, you’re awake, get up and eat," Grandma Sun enters, pulling Lan Tian to sit up, grabbing clothes for her from the nearby chair, "Didn’t eat dinner yesterday, aren’t you hungry? Slept like a log, calling couldn’t wake you, didn’t you sleep in the mountains? Hurry, we have guests at home, keeping people waiting, how improper."
Groggy, Lan Tian only registered the part about eating, other words she didn’t really catch, shook her head, took a while to get dressed. Going to the yard to wash, scooping water to wash her face, the cool freshness, too comforting, Lan Tian’s foggy mind also cleared up, wringing the towel, hanging it on the yard rope. Seemed to hear her uncle talking with someone in the Medicine House, the voices sounded quite unfamiliar.
Someone came to see the doctor?
Lan Tian, having hung the towel, heads to the Medicine House, hasn’t entered yet and already shouting, "Uncle, you’re back, when did you come back?"
In the house, besides Mo Yuanle, there were two other people, a middle-aged woman, and a young man. The middle-aged woman Lan Tian recognized as Chunhua’s mother, Wang Guiyu. Lan Tian noticed her face was a bit pale, probably heatstroke.
Lan Tian called out, "Aunt, what’s wrong with you?" Stood obediently by Mo Yuanle’s side, listening to him ask about Wang Guiyu’s condition. The young man, Lan Tian glanced, didn’t recognize, dark skin, no different from those working fields in the village, and then stopped looking at him.
Lan Tian ignored the young man. Ever since he entered, the young man’s gaze followed Lan Tian. A flash of astonishment darted across his eyes, so quick nobody noticed, the depths quickly calm as before.
Years not seen, the girl hasn’t changed much, just grown taller, almost reaching his chest, still the same as before, fair and tender, just not as chubby, slimmed down quite a bit, face elongated, a pair of big, bright eyes shining brightly like the stars in the sky, almost as he imagined in his heart.
The young man’s gaze was straightforward; the moment he looked over, Lan Tian knew. Thought his curiosity made him look. Lan Tian slightly frowned, why is this person so rude, staring all the time, looked up and glared, bared her teeth, the meaning very clear—keep looking and I won’t be nice.
Seeing Lan Tian look over, the young man grinned, showing white teeth. Lan Tian paused, could this person be unwell? Smiling so brightly at a stranger, as if proud of his white teeth! Lan Tian snorted, turned her head away, no need to fuss over a stranger.
However, this man looks somewhat familiar? Lan Tian thought, couldn’t recall where they’ve met, then let it go.
Mo Junhua couldn’t be more frustrated inside, the girl only glanced at him entering, then stopped looking. Mo Junhua couldn’t help touching his face; he hasn’t changed much, other than getting taller and more robust, a bit tan from this mission, but no other changes, how could the girl not recognize him.
Frustrated, so frustrated, totally not what he imagined! Mo Junhua felt indignantly about the treatment he received. Seeing Lan Tian look over again, he quickly delivered a big smile, thinking, the girl must have recognized him now, right? Why else would she look at him? Floating happily, seeing Lan Tian roll her eyes at him, his heart felt a chill.
