The Cultivator's Reborn to 1970s
Chapter 66 - 64 (Second Update)

Chapter 66: 64 (Second Update)

These days, the Mo Family home has been shrouded in dark clouds and enveloped by gloomy mist.

This noon, Grandma Sun couldn’t sleep, and as usual sat at the courtyard gate, waiting for Lan Tian’s return. She caught sight of a dark figure emerging at the foot of the mountain. It was too far to see clearly, but the figure resembled their family’s Lan Tian. She left the courtyard and headed towards the foot of the mountain.

Lan Tian’s cultivation had reached the Seventh Level of Qi Cultivation, and her Divine Sense had reached mid-stage Foundation Establishment. At the foot of the mountain, her extended Divine Sense could envelop the entire Mo Village. Nothing could escape her detection, not even the sound of ants crawling or the meridians on a mosquito’s wings. Naturally, she noticed Grandma Sun anxiously waiting at the courtyard gate for her.

With a light tap of her toes, Lan Tian floated over like a ghost, in a few breaths’ time she was in front of Grandma Sun, hugging her and acting coquettishly, "Grandma, I’m back." She nuzzled her head into Grandma Sun’s embrace.

"It’s good that you’re back, good that you’re back," Grandma Sun comforted, repeatedly patting Lan Tian’s back.

"Grandma, why are you at the gate? It’s so hot outside, and midday is when the sun is the deadliest. Everyone else is hiding inside to stay cool, and here you are, out in the sun. What if you get heat stroke?" Lan Tian, linking arms with Grandma Sun, scolded her gently as they walked back into the courtyard.

When one reaches sixty, it’s called a ’Year of Flowers’. Seventy is considered rare in ancient times.

Grandma Sun would be seventy next year. She had strained her body from overwork in her earlier years and her health had greatly deteriorated. She wasn’t getting any stronger with each passing year. In the past, when Lan Tian’s cultivation level was only at the Second Level of Qi Cultivation, she didn’t dare to take it lightly when tending to Grandma Sun’s meridians. One slip, and there would be nowhere to cry.

Thinking of the few fruit trees in the valley, Lan Tian suddenly smiled again. These fruits containing a trace of Spiritual Energy were best for nourishing the bodies of her grandma, uncle, and aunt.

"How could country folk be so delicate? Suffering heatstroke from a bit of sun... Guihua’s grandma is over eighty and still goes out to work the fields for work points. I’m fine, I know what I’m doing," Grandma Sun dismissed the concern.

"Yes, yes, yes, you are healthy and even stronger than an ox. Not many old people in the village can match up to you," Lan Tian flattered her, then secretly looked around before whispering mysteriously into Grandma Sun’s ear, "Grandma, I found something amazing in the mountains, and it delayed my return. You’ll definitely be shocked when you see it."

In the courtyard, Zhao Li was resting with her eyes closed under the camphor tree, worried about Lan Tian’s safety, unable to rest peacefully as she tossed and turned on the wicker chair. Hearing the voices at the gate, she sprang up. It sounded like Lan Tian. She walked over to the gate and saw Lan Tian and Grandma Sun entering.

"Tiantian is back." Zhao Li’s face lit up with surprise. She gave Lan Tian a thorough inspection. Seeing that she was unharmed, she immediately put her hands on her hips and scolded Lan Tian’s head, "You dead girl, you finally know to come back. The mountains were that fun, huh? You might as well have just stayed there. What brought you back? Don’t you know everyone at home was worried sick? Heartless... Gone for two months, how did you not starve to death on the mountain?"

As Zhao Li burst into anger, Lan Tian obediently stood and took the scolding. Once Zhao Li had let off steam, Lan Tian shamelessly closes in and embraces her, cooing and begging for forgiveness.

Going out and causing the family to worry like this was not good. She would have to venture out again in the future, sometimes for several years. If she returned to find only graves, she would truly have nowhere to cry. Lan Tian decided to reveal a little to the two Supreme Masters and conjured a Spiritual Energy Protection Shield, enveloping the entire courtyard.

"Grandma, Auntie, I have something to tell you." Lan Tian helped the two Supreme Masters sit down, her expression turning solemn. Grandma Sun and Zhao Li exchanged glances, thinking Lan Tian had something important to say, and their expressions turned serious as well.

"You both know about my cultivation of Immortal Laws with Grandpa. This time in the mountains, I have achieved success." Lan Tian waved her hand, and a basket full of peaches suddenly appeared in front of the two, then with another wave, another basket full of grapes materialized.

Such a bizarre occurrence happened right in front of them. Grandma Sun and Zhao Li’s eyes went wide, they even forgot to breathe, staring intently at the two baskets that had popped up from the ground. Lan Tian, worried that Grandma Sun might be too startled, held her wrist and infused some Spiritual Energy into her body.

The two almost suffocated before snapping back to reality. Zhao Li, with trembling hands, pointed at the baskets on the ground, her voice quivering, barely able to articulate, "Th-this..."

Had Lan Tian not mentioned it, they would have forgotten. After Lan Tian initially said that her house would collapse in the rain, she had acted just like the other kids in the village. There was nothing particularly unusual about her, and slowly they forgot about it. But now, it suddenly came back up, and... could it be as they were thinking? The girl really mastered the Immortal Law and became an immortal?

Zhao Li found it unbelievable. She looked at Lan Tian, then at Grandma Sun. Grandma Sun was much calmer, as if Lan Tian was just fetching water or eating a meal - nothing out of the ordinary. Zhao Li admired her secretly; her auntie was so composed, worthy of someone who had faced death alongside the enemy soldiers.

Seeing that Grandma Sun was emotionally stable, Lan Tian let go of her hand.

"It’s exactly what you’re thinking," Lan Tian nodded, "I am very powerful now, impervious to knife and gun. So, in the future, you don’t have to worry about me. No one can hurt me. When the beasts in the mountains see me, they avoid me from afar. The place I went to this time was a bit far, deep into the mountains. Look, I found something amazing there."

Lan Tian nudged the two baskets and gestured for the two people to look.

Grandma Sun and Zhao Li looked over, and the peaches and grapes in the baskets were juicy and several times larger than those in the village. At this season, the grapes were still half-green, half-purple, but the grapes in Lan Zi’s basket were a vivid purple, not matching the season at all.

Lan Tian moved a wooden basin over, washed a few peaches and several bunches of grapes, and casually put the baskets into her Sleeve Universe. If Spirit Fruits are left out too long, their Spiritual Energy will slowly fade away. The laws of time and space within the Sleeve Universe seem to halt, isolating the fruits from losing their Spiritual Energy.

Grandma Sun and Zhao Li curiously stared at Lan Tian’s hands for a long time but couldn’t make heads or tails of what she did. When Lan Tian finished washing the peaches, she stuffed one into each of their hands and took one to eat herself.

Juicy, crisp, and sweet; they had never tasted such delicious peaches before. Delicious, incredibly delicious.

"These peaches are even tastier than those bought in Shanghai; I’ve never had peaches this delicious. All thanks to Tiantian’s blessing that we get to enjoy such a treat! Isn’t that right, Auntie?" Zhao Li finished one in just a few bites, washed another one, and continued eating.

"Indeed, they are more delicious than the ones bought from outside. Eating them makes my body feel very comfortable," Grandma Sun nodded.

Concerned that the two might carelessly chat with the villagers and let the secret out, Lan Tian solemnly added, "To be honest with you, these peaches and grapes contain a hint of Immortal essence. Ordinary people who eat them regularly could live longer and not fall ill. Grandma and Auntie are both significantly weakened; eating these fruits is perfect for nourishing your bodies. These things should only be eaten within our family; we mustn’t let others know, or it could cause a lot of trouble."

Immortal fruits?

Grandma Sun and Zhao Li were startled and looked at the peaches in their hands, afraid to eat them. These were Immortal Fruits that could prolong life and ward off illness and death. No wonder they tasted exceptionally delicious and left one wanting more. Suddenly remembering something, Zhao Li ran to close the courtyard gate, then came back and started scolding Lan Tian.

"You girl, why are you so careless? You didn’t even close the door and just casually took them out; aren’t you afraid others will see?"

"It’s okay; I’ve laid down Immortal Laws at home. I’ll know if anyone comes near," Lan Tian replied nonchalantly, and Zhao Li was at a loss for words.

Grandma Sun pushed the peach back into Lan Tian’s hand and said, "Grandma is old; it’s all the same what I eat. Better to save it for you. As long as you grow up safely and healthily, Grandma will be happier than if I ate any Immortal Fruit."

"These things are useless for me; they’re the same as eating ordinary peaches. There’s only a trace of Immortal essence in them, and it’s only beneficial for ordinary people. Besides, there are more on the tree. I can pick more when we run out. Grandma, I can only be at ease to cultivate if you’re well. Otherwise, I’ll be worried all the time and it’s very easy to deviate during cultivation."

Zhao Li also persuaded, "Exactly, Auntie, Tiantian’s right. At your age, take care of your health first. We’ll all benefit from you being well. Let’s listen to Tiantian, don’t worry the kid. Eat; once your health improves, everything else will follow."

"Where is my uncle?" Lan Tian asked about Mo Yuanle, not having seen him since her return.

"He went into the mountains to look for you. It’s been nearly two months since you left, and he goes to search every few days. This time he’s been gone for three days; he should be back soon, probably in the next couple of days. Oh, right, Hua Zi sent you a letter; it’s on the table in your room."

Lan Tian hummed an acknowledgment, somewhat dismissively. Grandma Sun and the others knew her temperament; they had said their piece, but she remained stubborn. She appeared obedient face-to-face, but as soon as she turned around, she did whatever she pleased. They couldn’t fathom what was going on in her head. Hua Zi was such a good child, yet she hardly paid him any mind, looking at him with disdain. Hua Zi even sent her gifts from the military, which she tossed aside into miscellaneous items.

Over the years, Mo Junhua had been busy with various training and studies, writing only once every several months, sometimes a letter every year and a half. Lan Tian gave half-hearted responses, replying to one in every three letters, and only under pressure from Grandma Sun and Zhao Li.

Why insist on painting? Lan Tian didn’t want to get too involved with him, especially not in writing letters, exposing the details of her life. Her previous reply was just a single sentence, "Everyone at home is fine," which Zhao Li saw and scolded her for.

Mo Junhua filled five full pages with his letters, and she dismissed them with a single, "Everyone at home is fine." Zhao Li and Grandma Sun ganged up on her, demanding that Lan Tian write at least three pages in response. Since then, Lan Tian replied with drawings. She could carelessly add a few designs to a page; not just three pages, she could fill ten without a problem.

Once Lan Tian completed drawing on three pages, she considered her task done.

Grandma Sun and Zhao Li looked at the three pages of drawn correspondence without a word, still in disbelief that Lan Tian was using drawings to reply to Mo Junhua.

Lan Tian took an envelope into the room and lay on the bed, examining it over and over. It had been nearly a year since she had last received a letter from him. Lan Tian thought he would have forgotten about her by now, yet he sent another letter.
