"Is that so?" Mo Junhua raised his eyebrows, seemingly thinking of something, and moved his stool to sit opposite Lan Tian. "What am I like in your memory?"
Lifting Lan Tian’s hand, he carefully wiped it clean, his movements gentle as if he were handling a treasure. Lan Tian naturally spread her fingers, waiting for Mo Junhua’s service, and after wiping her hands, she pouted her mouth, signaling Mo Junhua not to forget to wipe it.
Seeing Lan Tian’s coquettish behavior, a smile filled Mo Junhua’s eyes. He leaned over to wipe her mouth, his gaze lingering on her lips. After cleaning Lan Tian’s mouth, Mo Junhua naturally stuffed the handkerchief into his pocket, while Lan Tian sprawled on the bed, squinting her eyes in reminiscence.
"Cold, unapproachable. Extremely bad, letting that woman bully me, even though I am your wife. But you never see me, treating me as if I were invisible."
Lan Tian, not knowing what she thought of, pointed at Mo Junhua and suddenly giggled, "You are wearing a green hat, haha, your true love has put several green hats on you. How does it feel, being so chauvinistic, to raise another man’s child? Does it feel good? Haha."
Her laughter was filled with unmistakable schadenfreude.
Mo Junhua’s face darkened, his eyes grim as he looked at Lan Tian. Any man being accused of wearing a green hat would definitely lash out. But this person was the apple of his eye; he couldn’t bear to. He gently tapped Lan Tian’s face and asked, "Which girl is it?"
"You don’t want me, so I don’t want you either, I don’t." The person on the bed muttered softly and fell asleep. Mo Junhua only heard Lan Tian saying she didn’t want him.
Mo Junhua sat on the edge of the bed, watching the sleeping Lan Tian, lost in thought. Two cups of sweet wine revealed some things unintentionally from the child’s mouth, alas, too little information. Mo Junhua didn’t care about anything else; what he cared about was that the girl’s mind was always thinking of not wanting him.
How could that be?
Mo Junhua’s face, somber, a hint of a bloodthirsty light flashing in his eyes, stared at Lan Tian for a while, picked up her leftover pastries, and swallowed them in a few bites. He drank the remaining sweet wine in the pot and carried the pot outside.
In the future, he couldn’t let the child touch alcohol outside; she could only drink in front of him.
Mo Junhua returned quickly, carrying a small basket. Inside the basket, there were a few peaches and bunches of grapes, covered with pumpkin leaves. On the way back, remembering that Lan Tian specifically wanted the peaches from Grandma Sun’s house, he lifted the pumpkin leaves and recognized at a glance that the peaches and grapes were not ordinary.
The little girl indeed had secrets; such things could not be grown by Grandma Sun or anywhere else. Her family must know her secret, but they knew not much. It was better than him, however—it was terribly irritating to feel that the people close to her knew, yet only he was kept in the dark.
Many things about the child did not withstand scrutiny; the people in the village all are dark under the lamp, the closer the people, the easier to spot her signs. Mo Junhua kept silent, watching. Anyway, the person had already entered his home, and Mo Junhua was patient, waiting for the child to speak to him on her own.
After what had just happened, Mo Junhua knew that getting the child to actively reveal her secrets was unlikely. Now, it didn’t matter whether she spoke or not; based on the dream, he had guessed it.
Entering the house, he put down the basket and walked to the bed to look at the sleeping Lan Tian.
Lan Tian had a bad sleeping posture, curled with the sheet, her legs clamping a pillow. He didn’t know how she managed to sleep, rolling from the head of the bed to the middle, sprawled across it. Lan Tian’s consciousness was hazy; it felt like someone was at the bedside. She tried hard to open her eyes and look that way, her eyelids as heavy as a thousand pounds, struggling for a long time without managing to open them. The breath felt very familiar; tentatively, she called out, "Mo Junhua."
"It’s me." Mo Junhua pulled over another blanket to cover her, his lips pressing against Lan Tian’s forehead, "Sleep well, I’m here."
Assured that it was Mo Junhua, Lan Tian fell into a deep sleep with relief.
Mo Junhua stood in front of the bed and quietly watched for a while before turning to leave and closed the door.
Shitou, Tie Jun, and Hei Gouzi had originally wanted to come over to tease during the bridal chamber visit but were stopped by Chunhua. The group, feeling rather dejected, saw Mo Junhua coming out and ’whoosh’, rushed over, dragging him to toast him. Each person with a sea bowl, determined to have him drink until he fell. Chunlai and Jun Guo, Chun Tao’s husband, and others came to block drinks for him but to no avail; the watching relatives and villagers goaded on, and the four brothers ended up drunk.
The wedding feast continued until after 10 p.m. before dispersing, friends and relatives from neighboring villages left together. Tonight’s moon was round and big, and the mountain road was clearly visible, except that the river outside the village was a bit dangerous; there were no ponds or pools along the way, and there was basically no danger. Unable to walk, sleeping on the road for a night was no big deal.
