Chapter 345: Escape (2)
Chapter 345: Escape (2)
As the chase went on, the more Mineah felt like she was waiting for a miracle to happen as she felt her reserves running out. She knew that she could only resist one or two more of Devon’s attacks, and she could only hope that the carpet’s speed would be enough to dodge some of them once her barrier fell.
"Running out of energy?!" Devon taunted as he ran behind her. "I can already see your barrier falling!"
Mineah clicked her tongue. There was no way she’d be able to hold on like this. No, she already risked communicating with Tarah earlier. She might as well do it now. Assuming the seer even heard her.
"Tarah!" she screamed. "Any news?!"
For a brief few seconds, the only sound Mineah heard was that of the wind blowing past her ears as she led Devon on through one winding hallway through the other. For good measure, she even went back to the room where everything started just to make sure that they could talk properly.
"Tarah?!"
"Just a few more seconds!"
Mineah couldn’t help but smirk at that news. Already, she could feel Devon gaining on her, but that would at least end just as she maneuvered the carpet to aim at the forming portal that she spotted just near Tarah.
"You will all die here!"
Ignoring Devon’s scream, Mineah went for the daring escape. But just as she was about to reach the portal, the demon king suddenly appeared in front of her.
"Going somewhere?!" he taunted.
Mineah gulped. There was no way she’d be able to stop the carpet on time before they collided. But just as she thought all hope was lost, another pained scream erupted from Devon as Tarah quickly stabbed him through the chest again.
"What are you waiting for?! Leave already!" Tarah repeated at her as she steered Devon away from her path. "I can escape on my own!"
Mineah almost wanted to protest, but with the way Tarah looked at her, she just knew that the seer would never take no for an answer. Without even looking back, she gave the woman a nod before quickly using the magical carpet to fly away from Devon. Ignoring the heaviness in her heart, she quickly made her way to the newly formed portal just a few meters away from her.
Using the carpet’s superior speed, Mineah shot past the two and went straight through the portal. All the while, she could only hope that Tarah would somehow make it out after everything she had done.

Having escaped with their lives, the first thing Mineah did was ignore the fact that they were now up in the clouds just to look at Nikolai. He was no longer bleeding out, but he was still unconscious. She then turned to her brother Ezekiel, noting the beads of sweat forming on his face as his body burned hot.
If she recalled, Vulcan’s power was currently inside her brother’s body now. It never dissipated. Instead, Vulcan’s soul was simply removed from it, allowing the power to flow into a vessel that could withstand it.
In truth, Mineah was glad that Ezekiel’s body absorbed Vulcan’s power. She could only imagine what would’ve happened if someone like Devon managed to harness it to their own ends.
"Still, it might not be over..."
Making sure to keep her guard up, Mineah took her time to meditate and gather some of her divine energy inside her body just to be prepared for the worst. If Tarah was unable to hold Devon back or just outright kill him permanently, then he would surely track them down. The magical carpet was fast, but it was not as good as her teleportation spell that could instantly transport them back to Valcrez.
Still, she was grateful enough for being able to hold the three of them safely while also flying at high speeds.
Minutes passed, and Mineah felt that enough time had passed for her to open her eyes and check on her husband’s current state. Thankfully, everything seemed fine with Nikolai, but she could only wonder why he was still not waking up yet.
"Lai," Mineah lovingly called out to him as she gently touched his face. His cheek was cold, completely opposite to her brother who was still burning hot the last she checked.
"Please, Lai... You promised you’d come back to me," Mineah whispered as she held onto Nikolai’s hand and gently kissed it. "Don’t worry me like this. I’ll get really mad if you don’t wake up soon."
She fought the urge to cry as she got no response. Shaking her head, she took a deep breath and then checked on her brother. Like her husband, Ezekiel’s vitals were also normal except for his high temperature. Then again, that was probably because of the dragon’s power currently flowing through his body. He was adjusting well to it, she supposed. She could tell that her brother would wake up sooner rather than later.
She should be happy... But Nikolai’s non-reaction was making her worry.
Mineah sighed as she moved to relax, but a frown quickly marred her face when she felt a strong energy signature coming from behind them. It was filled with dark energy, so she could already tell that it was Devon or one of his minions following them.
"This won’t do," Mineah murmured. "I guess we have to move..."
Thankfully, she had already gathered enough energy to create a more powerful teleportation portal. It was a struggle to make it due to her current state, but it was more than enough as she saw the blue glow of safety forming in front of her.
"Oh, thank you!"
Without hesitation, she steered the magic carpet through it. Once they were safe, she then turned around and quickly closed the portal. She was panting hard by the time she reached the private chamber where Fritz, Zaila, and Krisha were already waiting.
"Your Majesty!!!" they all burst out in chorus.
Exhausted, Mineah still managed to smile at them as she ordered, "Please look after Nikolai. Make sure he’ll wake up soon. I used up most of the energy I cou-"
Before she could finish her words, Mineah felt herself fall as her body finally collapsed.
