Mineah’s birthday celebration had extended into the early hours of the morning. She and Nikolai were both exhausted, but it was worth it because she really had a great time celebrating it with the people she cared about. She also received tons of gifts but of course, none could compare to the magical gifts Nikolai had given her.

She carefully extricated from her husband’s hug and quietly sat up on the bed. She smiled fondly watching Nikolai fast asleep. The sun had already risen, and while she knew she should wake him, she didn’t have the heart to disturb his peaceful sleep.

A heavy sigh escaped her as she stood up and stared at Nikolai.

She felt there was something unsettling about his words from the previous night. Her gut was telling her that Nikolai was hiding something from her. The illusions he did were very out of context for her birthday celebration. Yet Nikolai extended an effort to create a powerful spell she couldn’t break, almost forcing her to recognize him amongst the crowd. She couldn’t help but suspect that Nikolai was concealing something important from her.

’Nikolai won’t do something like this for no reason,’ Mineah muttered. Also, she knew that Nikolai would not hide things from her if the reasons he had were not valid.

Her head ached as she tried to piece together the scattered fragments of information, like solving a complex puzzle.

"Mine, don’t just stare at me, come back here..." Nikolai sluggishly hummed, his eyes still closed. Mineah listened and went back to bed. He wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close.

"The sun is up. Don’t you have early court meetings today?" she asked, still staring at his face. Nikolai slowly opened his eyes and smiled. "Hmm, before I answer, why don’t you tell me what’s with the way you were staring, Mine? Did you want to devour me so early in the morning?" he brazenly asked.

Without answering his playful remark, Mineah gently touched his cheek and caressed it before sighing deeply. "What’s wrong?" Nikolai asked, sensing her unease.

"Are you keeping something from me, Nikolai?" she inquired directly, without breaking eye contact. She hated the fact that she was unable to read his thoughts.

"You look so lovely and alluring," Nikolai replied, his lips hovering just inches from hers before he sealed her lips with a passionate kiss.

"Lai," she tried to speak between his ravishing kiss.

"You think too much, Mine. Why would I keep things from you?" Nikolai answered between kisses, his hand beginning to explore the contours of her thin nightgown. His hand slipped beneath the fabric and traveled down the hem, eventually finding its way inside her nightgown.

She was about to say more, but Nikolai deepened the kiss, his tongue probing deeper and seeking everything her mouth could offer.

Mineah let out a gasp when he parted her legs and caressed her sweet bud that was still wet from their lovemaking a while ago. She was still practically dripping with their combined desire, and as his two fingers skillfully entered her, her body arched in ecstasy.

Nikolai released her lips, his mouth trailing a path of wet kisses and nibbles along her jawline, descending to the curve of her neck. Meanwhile, his skilled fingers continued their intimate dance, thrusting in and out of her. "Hmm," Mineah breathed as she thought about how to spend the day.

"If you can’t think of anything, I’d be more than happy to keep you company in the comfort of our bed. Or, if you prefer a change of scenery, we can visit our secret sanctuary in the forest... Let’s have a mini honeymoon there," Nikolai coaxed. Mineah turned only to see her husband’s mischievous grin.

"But I want to be productive today, Lai. Besides, I’m already sore from our constant lovemaking," she complained, pouting. Nikolai chuckled and said, "Hmm, alright. Think and tell me what you want. For now, let me get up and ask a servant to deliver us breakfast."

Mineah nodded as she watched her husband don a robe and step out to fetch their breakfast. Her thoughts were heavy with concerns about the cryptic words he’d spoken, and she couldn’t shake the feeling that something was amiss. She was getting more and more convinced that there was something going on behind her back.

As Nikolai returned with the trolley of meals, she finally spoke up, her voice unwavering. "I want to go to Ebodia," she suddenly said, earning a frown from Nikolai. "Today?" he asked, to which she nodded.

Nikolai sat as he grabbed the bread and dipped it in melted cheese. He started feeding her and Mineah let him be. Her husband had a hobby of pampering her so stopping him would be futile.

"Why?" he asked as he handed her a glass of milk.

"I want to talk to Tarah about something. The last time we saw each other, I felt like there was more that I should know from her. Especially about her vision of this confidential mission at Helion. Also, I feel like she’s hiding something from me," Mineah revealed. Her eyes never left Nikolai’s as she waited for his comment.

He shrugged his shoulders and said, "But your brother mentioned that Tarah is not feeling well. I don’t think today is a good day to see her. Why don’t you wait for a few days?" A frown made its way on his face as he added, " After all, today is your birthday, Mine. We should find ways to celebrate more instead of thinking about work. Since you can’t decide what you want to do, how about you allow your husband to take the lead?"

She couldn’t help but pout and furrow her brows, which earned a chuckle from Nikolai."Don’t worry," he assured her, "I will not cage you in my arms, though it is very tempting. I’ll show you around the best places in Valcrez that you haven’t been to and treat you to the finest dishes and delicacies in our kingdom!"

Hearing him mention the best dishes and delicacies was enough to light up Mineah’s eyes in delight. But she was able to come back to her senses and make a mental note to visit Tarah as early as tomorrow. She couldn’t delay her concerns anymore. Moreover, she genuinely wanted to check on Seer Tarah and see how she was feeling. Her brother didn’t give her enough details about the cause of Tarah’s sickness. Ezekiel just told her it wasn’t something serious and that only Tarah needed enough rest to recover.
