Chapter 28: Their First Date (VIII).

"Hmm~ hmm~"

The afternoon sets in, the princess after getting the needed funds for their playtime just makes it all the better. Rowan glances at Princess Camille’s humming figure and giggles to herself, ’I suppose she likes money.’

"Which one of the list are you going to do next, your highness?" She asks.

Princess Camille winks, showing her the pouch and making sure to whisper so no one could hear what they were talking about. "For our next adventure we’re going to need to convert these platinum coins to gold ones. It’s hard to shop when you have these so we’ll go to the city bank."

"Do any of you know where the nearest bank is...?"

...

Polma City Bank: The Grand Vault of Polestin

===

It was just two blocks away from where they were, the royal guards were honestly wondering what these two were planning for their date if they were going to the bank. They didn’t see the princess taking a pouch, they just saw the two throwing rocks and thought it was weird.

"Here we are, your highness and Lady Bonheur. This is Polestin’s most treasured bank."

The Grand Vault of Polestin loomed over the heart of the city, its marble spires piercing the heavens like a testament to wealth and power.

The golden veins pulsed with a quiet, magical rhythm, as though the building itself were alive. Towering spires crowned with glowing crystal orbs cast a gentle luminescence over the cobblestone streets below.

"T-This is your bank?" (Rowan) looks up feeling a little out of place. She has never seen a bank as extravagant as this. "I am aware that we get money from this place..."

At the entrance, a pair of colossal iron doors waited, their surface adorned with intricate carvings of dragons, phoenixes, and gryphons. These guardians of lore seemed to shift in the flickering light, their eyes glinting with an almost lifelike vigilance.

"Mm, the bank is a new addition that helps the kingdom prosper even more than before. I did suggest to my father this idea years ago. I believe this even helped fund your needed resources for the war. Honestly, I’m glad he listened." The Vault was not merely a repository of wealth; it was a sanctuary of possibility. Merchants, nobles, and adventurers alike came here to entrust their fortunes, secure their futures, or gamble on dreams of glory.

Inside, the grandeur was even more breathtaking. The main hall stretched high, its vaulted ceiling painted with constellations that twinkled as though plucked straight from the night sky. Chandeliers of enchanted crystal bathed the room in a soft, golden glow. Clients moved through the hall with a quiet reverence, their footsteps muffled by plush carpets woven with silver and sapphire threads.

The Vault’s reputation was as unassailable as its defenses after only being a decade in the business. Treaties had been signed within its golden halls, kingdoms saved by its loans, and fortunes made through its investments. Adventurers spoke of it with awe, merchants with gratitude, and nobles with pride. Its motto, etched above the entrance, read: Fortune Favored, Forever Secured.

The bank teller sees them walking by the registrar and eyes the expensive looking dress of Princess Camille and a fit military attire of Rowan’s. "Oh welcome to the Polma City Bank, ladies."

The princess smiles warmly, taking a coin from the couch to be ready and careful for any prying eyes. She only needs to bring one out- not let them see the other coins she has. "Greetings, I would like one to convert currencies please."

"Oh! Then please state how much you’ll want to convert, milady and I’ll have an assistant get it for you right away." The bank teller realized that these two must be important visitors if they have this many bodyguards roaming around.

"I would like to convert this one platinum coin to a thousand gold."

"A-A platinum coin?!"

The whole bank went into an abrupt chaos after hearing such a rare coin was being exchanged in the bank!

"Yes, I would like to exchange it." (Princess Camille) takes one coin from her hand.

"O-Oh my goodness we haven’t seen these in a while." She eyes the exclusive platinum coin, feeling suspicious of the woman that was in front of her.

’Could this be a fake?’ The bank teller takes her loupe, a small magnifying glass used by watchmakers and jewelers to spot even the simplest of details in their product.

In this case-

"This is a real platinum coin." Her hands were shaking as she turned to the princess, forehead sweating. "My apologies if I might come across as being rude but who are you, young miss? This is a really important coin to have and-"

The bank manager who’s heard of the commotion happening in the lobby went ballistic. Just one look at the crown princess he almost fell down to his knees- the genius of the royal children!

It’s her!

Princess Camille Nyle Kastil!

"You fool, that’s the crown princess of the kingdom!" The bank manager points at Rowan as well. "And this is the crimson general! The hero who saved our kingdom from the demon lord! Why did no one tell me that they’re here?!"

"A-Ah!" The bank teller finally realized her mistake- immediately bowing down her head to Princess Camille. "My apologies, your highness and the crimson general!"

Princess Camille laughs awkwardly, waving her hand around as if to say it’s okay.

"You need not to apologize. This is the first time that I’ve visited the city. It’s natural that most people wouldn’t know me at first glance." She calmly explained.

"Mm."

Yet the bank manager smiles widely showing his golden teeth, his hands rubbing themselves together to calm his heart down. "No, no! That’s simply won’t do! Please let’s you going to our private room where-"

Princess Camille shakes her head not wanting to extend their stay. "No need, I’m in a hurry you see. I’m currently on a date right now, it would be wonderful if you could get that platinum coin exchange as quickly as you can, please."

All of the bank worker’s ears perked.

"A-A date?" They all look around to find the man who could possibly be in a romantic entanglement with- well these people who looked around have not heard of the recent news of her engagement.

"I don’t see any man, could it be with one of those knights behind her? I am usually updated on the latest royal gossip. I knew it! Maranda has been holding out on me." A bank teller forms her face into a pissed, looking pissed at Maranda who was on a break.

Princess Camille stares at her for a second, wanting to tell her that she was oh so rather foolish to have her voice so loud that everyone in the room could hear what she was saying. "Oh no, she’s right here. I’m on a romantic date with the famous crimson general."

Rowan shyly lowers her head down.

The princess immediately started hearing- ding!

"O-Oh my goodness. You’re on a date with her?! H-How come- isn’t she a wo-?!" The same bank teller that catered to them before covered her mouth in shock almost letting herself slip. What a combo this couple was, and she was going to beat Maranda on the first royal scoop!

The Crimson General and The Former Crown Princess are on a lovely date together roaming the capital city of Polestin!

At this point, Princess Camille just wanted their services to be over.

It’s taking too long and this rude girl up front just hurt Rowan!

Ding!

[Notification: Heroine is sad. The bank teller is being mean].

[Happiness: -30].

[Sanity: -5].

[Confidence: -20].

"The coins please." She smiles but it was rather cold and the tone of her voice was clearly impatient. Anyone who insults Rowan, making her sad or even thinks of dirtying the heroine’s name won’t be so easily let off. "I don’t particularly enjoy waiting."

Rowan blinks upon hearing that and takes notes, she must remember to always be on time when it comes to Princess Camille if she doesn’t like people who make her wait.

"I-If that’s the case we must not delay! Someone prepare one thousand gold coins for her highness at once!" The bank staff got to work, storing the platinum coin in a special vault before converting it into the right amount of gold coins.

"Princess my apologies but I forgot to tell you that we have a five hundred gold limit intake per client per the bank’s rules. We’ll be making your platinum coin conversion into five hundred gold coins and the rest will be in a check that you can use to cash out when you’ll need it. There isn’t any particular interest that you should be worried about, we’ll just need your signature and you’ll be done." The bank teller hands over her a check stamped with the kingdom’s national mystic animal.

The phoenix.

"Mm... I understand." (Princess Camille) stamps with her fingerprint and a signature on the check.

"A-Ah right... It was originally her highness who introduced this system." Seeing that her status was royalty, she was immediately taken as a first priority and got the money quickly without any problem.

The bank gave her five hundred gold of cash and a check that she can use anytime.

Once business is over, Princess Camille and the rest of her party leaves the bank. The bank manager personally opened the door when they left and made sure to give the princess a proper goodbye. "We thank you for doing business with us, your highness! Please come again!"

Jonathan yawns, this was a lot of work for him.

Then again at least he got to see some cute bank staff working around with money.

The two things he likes most together.

"Did you get everything you need, your highness?" (Rowan) finally talked. She wasn’t comfortable staying in that bank, the air and the vibe just really didn’t make her feel safe.

It’s a bit overwhelming for Rowan to be near so much money. It’s... reminding her of some things of her family, after all the noble house of Voclain- her family that disowned her was in charge of treasury.

She has seen what money can do to people.

What money did to her father.

And it cost her mother.

Princess Camille hands Rowan a pouch of gold coins, pouting. "I got what I needed indeed. Though that bank teller that serviced us needed some manners. How dare she ask, ’how come?!’ that I was on a date with you. Unbelievable! I should’ve told the bank manager to hire better staff."

"Hmph." She crosses her arms, finally noticing Rowan’s state of stillness.

"..."

Rowan says nothing, but keeps staring at the ground.

She does that a lot.

"Are you alright, Rowan?"

"I... yes- I am alright." She didn’t even realize that there was something heavy in her hand. "I just... I’m not used to dealing with this much money. I might be a general, I am aware of my finances but I have to admit I have no experience when it comes to matters like this. I thought the princess was um... cool back then."

[Notification: The Heroine thought the princess was cool]!

[Resolve Max Level].

[Confidence: +5].

"Thank you, you know- I haven’t heard that compliment yet." Even the princess’ confidence went up thanks to that. Princess Camille held Rowan’s hand, because she felt that the crimson general was going through something she can’t say. "Since we have a lot of money now I think... we can do much good for our date today. The next one on the list might take the whole afternoon up but are you still up for it?"

Rowan stares at their hands.

"Mm, I will follow wherever her highness goes."
