Chapter 27: Their First Date (VII)

Sizzle... sizzle... sizzle.

"Your skewered meat will be cooked in five minutes with this high heat, I hope our general can wait." The street vendor winks, Rowan nods still looking a little nervous.

"Mm."

Princess Camille who was watching everything couldn’t help but tease the girl- she’s not sure if Rowan has already been aware of her surroundings but everyone in the food district was eyeing her like a piece of candy.

Both men and women are interested.

She faints a sigh, looking a little hurt. "Are you always this popular? Should I be worried?"

What meant to be a little joke was a serious thing for Rowan.

"...!" (Rowan) couldn’t tell that it was merely a joke, she lowered her head immediately and held the princess’ hand assuring her that there won’t be anyone else. "No... no need to worry. You... her highness is... all I need."

Ding!

[Notification: Heroine is nervous. She is afraid to be left by the princess].

Princess Camille folded immediately after getting that notification alert and reading how many points got cut on some area of the {Heroine Status}. "I-I’m kidding. I know that you only have eyes for me so stop making those cute- I mean stop pouting."

"..."

Rowan did not stop pouting.

The vendor who finished cooking packs the meat and gives it to Rowan. "Here you go, enjoy."

"Thank you, I hope you have a nice day ahead Miss." Her eyes were shining as she took the wrapped bundle of meat in her hands.

Princess Camille stares at her in worry, honestly she knows this girl loves meat but that much is a lot. She might get sick if she ate all of that. "Can you eat this much by yourself?"

Rowan shakes her head, "No... I want to give it to John and the other royal guards. They might be on guard duty but I know they’re bound to get hungry. I don’t want anyone getting hungry, my apologies... I’ll just be fast."

General Rowan valued her comrades and treated them very well.

...

When Rowan got to where the royal guards and Lieutenant Jonathan were hanging out she presented the freshly bought cooked skewered chicken to them. "Jonathan, please share them with our comrades. You are all working hard, everyone deserves to eat."

"..."

"..."

"..."

The guards having only met the legendary crimson general said nothing, the rumors of a wild woman that went on a rampage killing hundreds of demons in one day was offering meat- got them confused.

They planned on being careful on talking with General Rowan Bonheur, after all her status is that of a noble.

"We thank you, Lady Bonheur." They all said in unison saluting.

Jonathan sighs, taking the meat off of Rowan’s hands while laughing. He could smell it and damn the general really knows how to pick good meat. "I got this buddy. You can rely on me on this one. I’ll give them this. I think they’re intimidated by our great general."

Rowan nods, understanding that her presence can be uncomfortable and like they said intimidating, it’s not her fault that she’s like this but she learned how to deal with it. "Please do not be. I see you as my fellow soldiers just doing their job, I am honored for the royal guards to take their time escorting us around the capital city with the princess."

"Without you protecting us I would not be able to have fun with her, I am grateful to all of you." (Rowan) salutes and the other royal guards salute back in respect. "I have to go. Please enjoy the food."

After Rowan’s figure was no longer there, the royal guards huddled around the food- Jonathan each gave them a skewered meat looking so happy. After meeting the great crimson general, they wonder if maybe working under her wouldn’t be so bad. The army assigned to her must be one happy bunch to have gotten a strong yet kind hearted down to earth Military General like her.

"Lieutenant Jonathan Smithers, was it?" One royal guard walks up to Jonathan.

"Yeah?" He asks.

The guard smiles under his helmet as he watches Rowan talk happily with the crown princess. "You have an amazing general who cares about her people, huh."

Jonathan wraps her arm around the royal guard, joyfully telling them how awesome his boss was. "Oh buddy she’s done more for us than you can imagine, I wouldn’t be alive without her saving me. Everyone in the army respects her... because she earned it."

...

Rowan excuses herself to give some food for the royal guards working on duty. It won’t take her long...

"Hmm..." (Princess Camille) takes a bite of her last meat watching the crimson general smile and saluting to the royal guards.

This kind of occurrence in the game was rare, they show it on visual novel text that Rowan Bonheur was a kind and charming character.

But seeing her actually in the flesh, she feels more real here than in the game.

’She’s so attractive when she does something like that. I don’t know why but I might be a sucker for people like Rowan.’ The princess sighs, throwing the sharp skewer stick away and now craving for something sweet.

There was a stall nearby that was selling candied apples, she quickly bought two, planning to give one to Rowan when she came back.

"So what’s next on the list?" (Rowan) asks after getting back to the princess who grabbed some candied apples for them to enjoy. The guards were eating the meat skewers watching on happily for the two love birds, they were in a good mood.

"Candied apples..." she mutters out after seeing what was on the princess’ hand.

"Do you like sweets?" (Princess Camille) offers the candied apple to Rowan who accepts gratefully holding it by the end of the stick. "And for what’s next on the list- well there’s this one thing that I’ve really been dying to try."

Right after eating they went to the nearest city wall.

"Here is my list number thirty-one."

List #31: Throw a rock at a city wall.

Rowan stares at the wall that the princess leads them to, she instructs the guards to be a little farther away from them because she’s going to conduct an experiment.

"Your highness, you’ve truly never thrown a rock at a wall?" (Rowan) asks, taking a smooth rock that was laying on the ground staring at it before going back to the princess who seemed happy to be seeing the city wall.

"Well this isn’t any ordinary wall, my dearest fiance. You see this is the legendary easter egg event!"

Ding!

[Notification: Heroine is happy because the princess called her fiance].

’Ahem... I’m going to ignore some of the notifications here.’ (Princess Camille) was a little startled by the system’s sound system. She really should find a way to turn that off.

"Easter egg event...?"

An Easter egg event is like finding a hidden gem in an otherwise ordinary setting- something special tucked away by a mischievous creator, waiting to be discovered by those with sharp eyes and curious hearts.

Basically it’s hidden events that’ve been put on by the game developers for the players to find.

"Mm in Prince Lucas’ route, well that’s my brother his route involved one of the missions- for the player to investigate something strange happening around the capital city, if you go up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right B and A you’ll end up stuck in this wall." She points at the city wall that had a strange looking rock on the very top. "I remember the wall from the art and the three here with strange markings. You need to throw a rock at a specific spot to get some extra cash, I wonder if we still do this now- can we get the money that was meant for my brother?"

"I see... it’s perhaps like a hidden code. Is the rock with a strange color the target?" She points at the rock that had a strange darker color than any of the rest there. It seemed to be a little loose too.

Princess Camille claps, not only charming but very perceptive. "Bingo, you got it. That’s the rock!"

Rowan held the smooth stone tightly and told the princess to get into safety. "Well then, please stand back, your highness."

Princess Camille does what she was told and takes a few steps back. The royal guard who was eating while watching the two wonders what in the world is this location for a romantic date.

The crimson general breathes in and out. Her fingers tightened around the cool, jagged surface of the rock, its weight familiar and solid in her hand. With a sharp inhale, she drew her arm back, muscles coiling like a spring. The motion was deliberate yet instinctive, honed by years of practice or reflex.

"Hah!"

The rock arced through the air, a fleeting blur. For a heartbeat, the world seemed to hold its breath, the only sound the whisper of the wind carrying the stone toward its target.

Crack!

When it landed, the sharp crack echoed through the stillness, a satisfying sound. The strange rock was hit by so much force that it fell down to the ground and something else with it too.

Crack... thud!

Cling! Cling!

Princess Camille knew what that sound was. She hurriedly went to where it fell and laughed in victory holding up a pouch that was full of money. "Eureka baby! We’re rich!"

Princess Camille never got to tell Rowan how much that was in that pouch. In the coin system of Polestin there were three coin hierarchies.

Silver coins, the lowest one.

Gold coins, one gold coin would amount to a hundred.

And lastly, platinum coins. It would amount to at least a thousand gold coins. Only a few selected nobles are allowed to even have such treasures, and for some reason there’s a pouch full of them behind a strange colored rock?!

"Quickly hide this somewhere safe~! Thank goodness for cheats! Who knew that unlocked events would still be there!" She giggles, happily hugging Rowan. "Hahaha! Thank you Rowan! You can have half once we get to a much safer place."

Princess Camille pulled away from their hug and Rowan’s heart calmed down.

Hearing that she was going to be given half, Rowan insisted that Princess Camille should keep the whole pouch to herself instead. "I have no need for money, your highness. Just seeing you happy like this is enough."

The princess frowns hearing her answer, "Listen, I’m going to keep your share then. So that when we’re facing a financial emergency in the future as a married couple we can use this, okay?"

One day when they’re old, what if one of them gets sick, in debt or something else they need backup money for the future.

And their kids too.

Rowan smiles, she can’t deny the princess with that kind of reason.

"Thank you for thinking of me, your highness. I’ll trust you with my share then- so far this has been a very productive date."

"Pfft- yeah this isn’t exactly how I planned for my day to be but it’s been fun. Thank you for accompanying me here, it means a lot."

"Anything for you, your highness."
