Chapter 227: Chapter 227: Sense of Security
```
Then, the rest of his words were choked back in his throat.
What did he see?
The wolf was still in mid-air when a sharp silver light sliced through the void; then the wolf’s head was severed from its body, its hot, pungent blood bursting into large blossoms in the air before spattering onto the ground.
The scent of blood only further aroused the wolves’ ferocity. The alpha wolf let out a piercing howl, and several other wolves lunged from different directions.
Song Chongjin struggled to move his body, even if just to block one wolf.
But he was simply too exhausted, and his injuries were too severe. Once his breath had scattered, at this moment, it felt as if his bones were disassembled; he couldn’t move at all.
He could only watch helplessly as Wang Yongzhu was besieged, and he involuntarily closed his eyes.
He didn’t hear the expected screams, or even much commotion, just a few muffled thuds.
When Song Chongjin opened his eyes, he saw Wang Yongzhu covered in wolf blood on his head and face, standing firmly in front of him, protecting him behind his own body.
In an instant, Song Chongjin inexplicably felt a sense of security looking at this figure.
But he immediately came to his senses, took a deep breath, and managed to lift half of his body. He saw that the wolves that had attacked them were now corpses lying beneath Shitou.
This swift and effective method was beyond Song Chongjin’s expectations. He silently watched Wang Yongzhu’s figure and suddenly felt a chill on his own neck.
The pack was also intimidated by Wang Yongzhu’s brutality. The alpha wolf began to hesitate, seemingly unsure whether to continue the attack or to retreat.
It was still Wang Yongzhu, who surveyed the scene before addressing the alpha wolf, "If you know what’s good for you, leave quickly. Otherwise, this will be your fate."
As he spoke, he jumped off Shitou and kicked the corpses of the dead wolves with his foot.
The alpha wolf whimpered as if considering something. Its gleaming green eyes fixed on Wang Yongzhu, which would have made anyone with a weaker heart feel their legs go soft.
But Wang Yongzhu was drenched in wolf blood, like a war god incarnate. He glanced back at Song Chongjin and pointed at him, "I know you hold grudges. If you want revenge later, take it out on him! Just remember his face!" He mercilessly pushed Song Chongjin to the front.
Song Chongjin...
With a long howl, the remaining seven or eight wolves slowly backed away, gathered behind the alpha wolf, and then slowly disappeared into the jungle.
Wang Yongzhu maintained a vigilant posture and didn’t dare move.
A good while passed before Song Chongjin finally spoke up, "The wolves have retreated!"
Wang Yongzhu, no longer sensing the presence of the wolves, let his legs give way and knelt on the ground. "Oh my goodness, I was scared to death! That was terrifying! Ptooey, ptooey, ptooey... this wolf blood smells awful. I’m going to..."
While complaining, he grabbed the fallen leaves and dirt on the ground to wipe off the blood on his hands and body.
"Scared now? Weren’t you all tough just a moment ago?" Song Chongjin had recovered a little strength and slowly sat up, leisurely watching Wang Yongzhu busy himself below Shitou.
"Pah! I was forced into it, okay? If I’d chickened out, we both would’ve been goners today!" Wang Yongzhu touched the blood still dripping from his hair, feeling on the verge of collapse. After taking the Genetic Liquid, his senses had increased, and so had the stench of the wolf blood—how could it smell so foul?
Seeing that Song Chongjin seemed to have regained some composure, Wang Yongzhu allowed himself a sigh of relief. While trying to suppress his disgust and wringing the blood out of his hair, he asked, "How come you’re so unlucky to have run into a pack of wolves? If it weren’t for me today, let me tell you, you would’ve been done for!"
```
Song Chongjin let out a cold laugh. Ever since the day he confronted Wang Yongzhu and on the way back from the county town, the two had ignored each other. He hadn’t expected that their next meeting would be under such circumstances.
Since Wang Yongzhu had saved his life after all, and furthermore, she knew his true identity, there was no need for him to keep pretending.
He decided to lie back down on the rock, "Isn’t this just my bad luck! Through no fault of my own, someone has put a medicine on me that attracts ferocious beasts, and to top off my misfortune, I ran into a pack of wolves today."
"Is it your stepmother again? I mean, why does she always have to pick on you, a son born out of wedlock who hasn’t acknowledged his ancestors or his illegitimacy? And what about your real father? Doesn’t he stop her?" Wang Yongzhu was very curious.
Song Chongjin snorted coldly. "Don’t you know everything about me? Didn’t the master behind you tell you?"
Wang Yongzhu really wanted to say that the one behind her was a good-for-nothing! And a scoundrel who cheats his hosts!
But she thought better of it and kept quiet.
"How did you end up in the mountains? Surely you didn’t rush here to rescue me after hearing the news?" asked Song Chongjin directly.
"You wish! Fancy that! If I had known you were here, along with a pack of wolves, I would never have entered the mountains today!" Wang Yongzhu scoffed. She thought about the wounds on Song Chongjin’s back, took a few steps forward, plucked a couple of shepherd’s purse herbs, and tossed them to him.
"This should be hemostatic herb, I guess. You figure out how to use it. I wouldn’t want you to die from blood loss after I went to all the trouble of saving your life. Who would I go to then to claim a debt of gratitude?" She didn’t really understand these things, but she remembered that shepherd’s purse could stop bleeding. Song Chongjin, who spent his days in the mountains, should know how to use it, right?
Song Chongjin took the shepherd’s purse and fiddled with it for a while before pulling out a medicine bottle from his waist. "Apply the medicine for me, I can’t reach it!"
Wang Yongzhu...
If her mission had been to beat Song Chongjin into a pig’s head, she would have accomplished it with flying colors, no Points necessary!
Thinking of her mission, she endured it.
Climbing onto the rock, she grabbed the medicine bottle and roughly, without any courtesy, flipped Song Chongjin over.
Caught off guard, Song Chongjin was flipped over by Wang Yongzhu in a flash, landing face and chest first onto the rock, both hurting badly.
Then he felt his clothes forcefully ripped open, followed by his wound. Wang Yongzhu did not bother cleaning his wound, not caring if there were twigs, leaves, or dust, she just dumped a whole bottle of medicine haphazardly on it.
The medicine was indeed effective; as soon as it was applied, the bleeding slowly stopped.
Wang Yongzhu emptied the bottle completely, then casually tossed the bottle aside and dusted off her hands. "There, done."
The medicine worked well, but it was particularly painful when it came into contact with blood and flesh. Song Chongjin broke out in a cold sweat from the pain.
Hearing Wang Yongzhu say it was done, Song Chongjin tried to act nonchalant as he sat up, his face turning white as cold sweat poured out.
Watching the medicine bottle lying at his feet, the corner of his mouth twitched, and he looked away.
It took a while for the intense pain to subside, and then Song Chongjin took a deep breath, slowly got up, and immediately his face darkened.
His clothes had already been torn by wolves, but they still hung on his body. Yet, after Wang Yongzhu’s rough application of the medicine, with a few rips, they were barely clinging to him at all.
Even though he was a man, there was a woman in front of him, and such a state was really indecent.
He felt particularly uneasy all over, especially when Wang Yongzhu looked at him. Although he maintained a blank expression on his face, his red ears betrayed him.
