Chapter 324: Chapter 324: Purchased by Lu Yi
His voice was hoarse, each word he spoke seeming to take immense effort.
"Yunshen, is your throat uncomfortable?"
Bo Yunshen let out a hmph and sipped through the straw.
Hmph!
He had nearly lost his life for Qin Yan; how could he not manage a sip of milk meant for Qin Yan?
The warm liquid slid down his throat, which was already sore and raw, burning fiercely and intensifying the pain.
Yet, that dry, coarse feeling subsided, granting Bo Yunshen a slight sense of relief.
He drank more than half of the milk in the cup in one go, then narrowed his deep lashes and stared fixedly at Qin Yan: "Answer!"
"Where did it come from?"
Qin Yan hesitated for a moment, tucked her long hair behind her ear, and muttered, "Lu Yi bought it."
Hm?
Bo Yunshen’s gaze turned icy as it locked onto Qin Yan’s.
"Who?"
"Lu Yi. He saw that I wasn’t feeling well and went out to buy me a cup."
Not feeling well?
He thought Qin Yan looked just fine!
Of course, while he was still alive, even if Qin Yan was eager to cozy up to Lu Yi, she wouldn’t dare cross the line too far.
Their situation was still under intense scrutiny online, and no matter how reckless Qin Yan might be, she still had to maintain a facade for the media, for the sake of their little family member.
If Qin Yan wanted milk, she’d naturally have Lu Yi deliver it to her!
Bo Yunshen disdainfully shook the now-empty cup in his hand, a dark and rebellious expression clouding his features: "It tastes awful. Is this the best Director Lu can muster?!"
As he spoke, Bo Yunshen threw the empty cup from his bedside table.
Qin Yan’s expression remained unchanged. She shifted slightly and spoke softly, "Mr. Bo, that cup of milk was mine."
"Not everyone is like Mr. Bo, rolling in money! Being able to afford a cup of Starbucks is already quite a luxury!"
Bo Yunshen glanced at Qin Yan.
The latter seemed oblivious to his gaze and continued in a low tone, "Besides, if I recall correctly, doesn’t Mr. Bo have cleanliness issues?"
Drinking something someone else had touched—how could that possibly happen?
Qin Yan left that remark unsaid, but Bo Yunshen could not suppress the brief stiffness in his expression.
"What now? Director Qin is holding a cup of milk against me?"
"Not at all."
"Not at all?" Bo Yunshen sneered. "Cutting through the smoke inhalation, awake for so long, and yet Director Qin doesn’t bring me a glass of water. Instead, she sits by my bedside, drinking milk delivered by an old flame!"
"Not a grudge, then—is it pride?!"
Qin Yan wanted to rebut, but at that moment, Mrs. Bo entered with a team of doctors, sweeping into the room like a torrent.
Caught off-guard, Qin Yan was pushed out of the hospital room entirely.
Standing in the dim hallway, she sat on a green plastic bench, pressing a hand to her forehead as her eyes flickered with untraceable anguish.
A mild concussion—and yet Qin Yan still had to muster energy to spar verbally with Bo Yunshen.
Three years into their marriage, for the first time, Qin Yan wondered if she had truly made the wrong choice.
Massaging her temples, she retrieved an earring from the pocket of her sun jacket.
An emerald gemstone, unmistakably matching the description given by Lin Man.
...
In the room, a doctor asked Bo Yunshen to open his mouth to examine his throat, even asking him to speak a few words and describe how he was feeling.
Bo Yunshen cooperated nonchalantly.
He lay on the expansive hospital bed, his gaze fixed toward the door, where Qin Yan sat outside, rubbing her head with a pained expression.
Bo Yunshen paused.
To be honest, too many surprises had occurred today.
On Bai Le Men’s second floor, there was no sign of Qin Yan, yet he found her handbag in the restroom there.
He grabbed the nearest doctor and asked, "Tell me, how did I come to the hospital? Who sent me here?"
The doctor, startled by his urgency, stammered, "Mr. Gu drove you here. There was also a young woman in a light pink blouse."
A light pink blouse—the doctor was likely referring to Manman.
However, neither of the people who brought him here was currently by his side.
His gaze shifted to Qin Yan again. This woman—seeing Manman just now—must have driven her away!
Bo Yunshen’s expression grew darker, his lips pressing tightly together.
"My wife—did she come with me?"
The doctor furrowed his brow briefly before responding, "Mrs. Bo arrived before you."
Bo Yunshen raised his eyebrows slightly.
If Qin Yan had arrived earlier than him, why had her secretary lied about her still being inside Bai Le Men?
Could it be that... Qin Yan was orchestrating his supposed accident?
Bo Yunshen’s expression darkened further, as the older doctor—misunderstanding his reaction as disappointment that Qin Yan hadn’t stayed by his side—smiled reassuringly, "Mr. Bo, when Mrs. Bo arrived, she was brought in on a stretcher."
Bo Yunshen looked up.
"Mrs. Bo sustained a head injury, lost consciousness for a while, and had been lying in the hospital for nearly half an hour before coming to."
"When she woke up, she started looking for you everywhere."
Bo Yunshen paused. If Qin Yan had indeed passed out at Bai Le Men, who had saved her?
And what was the story behind the handbag in the restroom?
If Qin Yan had been there at that time, it would’ve been impossible for him to miss her.
His thoughts turned momentarily to Lin Man, but as soon as he ventured there, his mind abruptly swerved.
No, it couldn’t have been. Manman was far too kind-hearted; if she had seen Qin Yan, she would’ve told him immediately.
Bo Yunshen shook his head and asked, "Then how did she come here? Who brought her in?"
Bo Yunshen was expecting to hear Lu Yi’s name, but the doctor chuckled casually:
"Mrs. Bo was one of the injured brought back via ambulance—rescued from the fire scene."
"No accompanying personnel?"
The doctor hesitated briefly before explaining, "Mr. Bo, the Bai Le Men fire resulted in casualties, and every ambulance was needed to transport the injured."
"As such, the ambulances were reserved exclusively for patients; accompanying personnel were not allowed on board."
Bo Yunshen froze again.
An earlier remark from Lu Yi suddenly came to mind.
[Yunshen, stop searching.]
[At a time like this, even if Qin Yan is indeed inside, she might not survive.]
At the moment, the words hadn’t seemed unusual, but now, upon reflection, they appeared oddly intentional.
Bo Yunshen furrowed his brow, his thoughts scattered when his phone suddenly rang.
The sound instantly interrupted all his musings.
Glancing at the screen, he saw Gu Jinyan’s name displayed.
Without hesitation, he swiped and unlocked the phone to take the call.
Gu Jinyan: "Old Bo?"
Bo Yunshen murmured in response, "What’s up?"
"Not much. Something urgent came up at the company earlier, so I left the hospital temporarily. I’m just checking in to see if you’ve woken up."
"If so, I’ll head back to check on you."
Clearing his sore throat, Bo Yunshen asked Gu Jinyan sternly:
"Old Gu, I heard you carried me out of the fire?"
