Chapter 319: Lu Yi, Where is Yunshen?

Chapter 319: Chapter 319: Lu Yi, Where is Yunshen?

The fire rescue point where Qin Yan was located—even if Lu Yi didn’t manage to find Qin Yan, perhaps she had already been saved by the firefighters!

She must have already left Bai Le Men!

But when faced with Lu Xiangxiang’s nearly tearful gaze, Gu Jinyan paused, nodded slightly.

Gu Jinyan swiftly put on his firefighting suit, then jogged inside the raging fire with two other firefighters.

...

Tong City Central Hospital.

Qin Yan had another dream.

She dreamt of eleven years ago, the day before Bo Yunshen disappeared without saying goodbye.

Bo Yunshen held her hand, walking from the west end of the campus to the farthest east end where the girls’ dormitory stood, sending her upstairs.

At the time, she was sick, and under his watchful eye, she ate plain porridge for a week, her mouth devoid of any taste. Standing at the dormitory entrance, Qin Yan touched her stomach and asked him:

"Yunshen, tomorrow I want to go eat some wontons from that old shop on Huai Yang Road, is that okay?"

Even now, she couldn’t forget the look on Bo Yunshen’s face back then—his pale complexion illuminated by the golden hues of the setting sun, his deep eyes filled with a tenderness that made her heart ache.

"You want to eat?"

Qin Yan nodded emphatically. Bo Yunshen’s fingertip brushed her eyelashes, his voice languid yet hoarse: "Be good, don’t think about it anymore."

Qin Yan huffed angrily and went upstairs.

Huai Yang Road was far from school. She only wanted to think about it wistfully; yet, Yunshen’s response stirred a wave of grievance in her young heart. She went upstairs, refusing to read any of the messages Bo Yunshen sent her.

By then, night had fallen. Two hours passed, and it was nearing curfew for the girls’ dormitory doors. Suddenly, Bo Yunshen called her.

At first, she acted stubbornly and ignored the call. Yet he kept calling, and by the second attempt, she couldn’t help but pick up.

Bo Yunshen’s voice sounded softly in her ear: "Yanyan, could you come downstairs for a moment, please?"

Qin Yan changed her clothes and spoke coolly: "I’m already asleep. Whatever it is, let’s talk tomorrow."

"Yanyan, be good. Listen."

Qin Yan hesitated for a long time before finally heading downstairs.

Outside, the rain was pouring. Bo Yunshen stood at the entrance of the girls’ dormitory, his white shirt soaked more than halfway through.

Hearing footsteps, Bo Yunshen turned around. Seeing that it was her, the corners of his long, narrow eyes curved into a faint smile.

In his hand, he held a serving of wontons, wrapped in packaging from the very shop she had mentioned.

Her mother had died of illness, her father remarried—Qin Yan had been left with nothing from an early age. It had been so very long since she felt this kind of warmth, being cherished by someone.

Perhaps it was the heavy rain, or perhaps it was those inexplicable emotions—Qin Yan couldn’t hold it in. Tears suddenly spilled from her eyes.

Seeing her cry, Bo Yunshen became flustered.

"Didn’t you say you wanted wontons? Why are you crying now?"

Bo Yunshen reached out, brushed away the tears from the corner of her eyes, and handed over the still-warm wontons. "Go back upstairs and eat them while they’re hot. Don’t eat too much, or you’ll upset your stomach at night."

Qin Yan nodded.

She gazed at Bo Yunshen, her heart constricting—a warm sensation like a little hot water bottle being placed inside her chest.

"It’s raining outside, why would you go out to buy food for me?"

"It wasn’t raining when I left. Besides, I had business to attend to near there anyway, so I grabbed these for you while I was there!"

"I didn’t go out of my way just for you—don’t flatter yourself too much."

That night, Qin Yan ate the wontons and had a peaceful sleep.

She had believed that this was forever. In the dream, the scene shifted abruptly—Qin Yan found herself at the entrance of the school library, walking outside.

From afar, she saw a figure. He wore a thin shirt, his back turned as he stood at the library entrance.

"Yunshen!"

Qin Yan called out to him with a smile. The man slowly turned around, his face handsome, yet covered in blood.

Qin Yan let out a sharp scream and sat up abruptly in her hospital bed.

"Qin Yan, you’re awake?"

Qin Yan heard the voice and saw Lu Yi seated by her bedside. The fear from the dream hadn’t dissipated; her face remained pale, her expression haunted as she nodded faintly at Lu Yi.

A rush of dizziness overtook her.

"Don’t shake your head too much. The doctor said you hit your head today and have a mild concussion—you need to take care."

As clarity returned to her mind, Qin Yan vaguely recalled what had happened. At Bai Le Men’s celebratory party, there had been a fire. Amid the crowd, someone had shoved her, causing her head to hit the bathroom sink.

Qin Yan paused before suddenly snapping out of it. Looking around desperately, she didn’t see Bo Yunshen anywhere.

A surge of panic overcame her, intensifying in her chest. The online rumors about them continued to swirl, harming both their reputations and the Bo Group’s interests. In a situation like this, Yunshen couldn’t possibly act irresponsibly—not staying by her side.

Qin Yan’s lips trembled. Her gaze locked intensely onto Lu Yi as she asked: "Lu Yi, where’s Yunshen?"

Lu Yi’s expression shifted slightly, and he lowered his head.

This avoidance sent a sharp pang through Qin Yan’s heart.

"Lu Yi?"

"I didn’t see Yunshen."

Qin Yan’s eyelashes fluttered. Just as she was about to get out of bed, Lu Yi held her back: "What are you doing?"

"Lu Yi, if you won’t tell me the truth, I’ll find Yunshen myself."

Lu Yi gritted his teeth, his gaze locking onto Qin Yan as he spoke in a low voice: "Qin Yan, listen to me—divorce Yunshen."

Qin Yan instinctively rejected the idea, "No way! At this point, divorcing him is as good as admitting that I cheated and that Yinyin isn’t Yunshen’s child. What’s the difference?"

"I don’t care what happens to me, but Yinyin is my everything. I won’t let any gossip or slander hurt my daughter!"

Lu Yi fell into uncomfortable silence.

Qin Yan’s unease grew, her premonitions darkening.

She fixed her eyes on Lu Yi and asked softly, "Did something happen to Yunshen?"

"I... I don’t know. I’ve been here in your hospital room—I don’t know anything about the situation outside."

"Lu Yi, can’t you just tell me the truth?"

Taking a deep breath, Qin Yan’s firm tone pressured Lu Yi, making it hard for him to respond.

Lu Yi’s gaze flickered slightly. He said quietly: "I’m telling you the truth. But earlier, before I followed you to the hospital, the fire at Bai Le Men had already spread significantly."

"He charged straight into the flames without even looking back..."

Qin Yan’s face turned pale.

Without looking back, he charged into the flames?

Lu Yi hadn’t mentioned it yet, but she almost forgot. Before losing consciousness, she had run into Lin Man in the restroom at Bai Le Men.

"Qin Yan, when you fainted earlier, the police counted the evacuees. It seems that Miss Lin wasn’t among them."

Lu Yi hesitated, then added softly: "Of course, I only heard about this secondhand."

A trace of sorrow flashed through Qin Yan’s gaze.

Lu Yi hesitated for a moment but eventually pulled out his phone and handed it over: "Before finding you, I heard from Xiao Shen. He said you and Yunshen were in the restroom at the far end of the second floor. I questioned Yunshen..."

"He said a lot, but I only recorded one sentence."

Saying this, Lu Yi tapped play on the screen of his phone.
