Chapter 318: Chapter 318: Old Bo is Still Inside!
Bo Yunshen’s movements were growing faster and faster. Halfway down the stairs, a massive wall lamp overhead suddenly crashed down, slamming onto his head with great force.
His vision went black, and he didn’t have time to react before collapsing unconscious on the stairs.
...
The news of the fire at Bai Le Men spread rapidly in this age of the internet, and Lu Xiang stumbled upon it by sheer coincidence.
Feng Chen had a stack of documents in hand, while Lu Xiang stayed at Feng Group late into the night, working overtime alongside the boss.
Feng Chen ordered a cup of coffee, and Lu Xiang put aside her work to head to the break room.
As she exited the break room, carrying coffee in hand, Lu Xiang glanced at the notifications on her phone.
In the picture, flames were engulfing Bai Le Men and reaching high into the sky—it really did look severe.
Lu Xiang felt her eyelids twitching uncontrollably. She forced herself to suppress the unease in her heart, carrying the coffee into the CEO’s office.
The man seated behind the desk wore a pair of refined gold-rimmed glasses. His gaze was fixed on the documents on the desk, his head slightly bowed. The dark gray suit he wore softened his sharp edge, making him appear rarely striking and captivating.
Seeing her enter, Feng Chen raised his head slightly.
He casually shifted the documents on the desk and said in a low voice, "The company’s workload has been heavy the past few weeks. Arrange something—pick a time in the next couple of days for a company dinner gathering."
"Let the employees unwind a little."
Lu Xiang stole a surprised glance at Feng Chen.
The boss was notorious for being a workaholic—traveling for business and attending workshops until the early hours of the morning, a testament to his mania.
It was natural for her to be surprised by this sudden decision to organize a company dinner. She couldn’t help but wonder what had gotten into him.
Lu Xiang had just agreed to his request when her phone rang. She set down the coffee and stepped out of the CEO’s office, glancing at the caller ID—a number she didn’t recognize.
Upon answering, Gu Jinyan’s voice came through the phone:
"Lu Xiang, Bo Group is hosting a celebration banquet at Bai Le Men. I can’t reach Old Bo—give Qin Yan a call."
Lu Xiang’s eyelid twitched again. Gu Jinyan seemed to be driving; even through the phone, Lu Xiang could faintly hear the sound of him slapping the steering wheel.
"There’s been a major fire at Bai Le Men. I’m worried about Old Bo and Qin Yan’s safety."
Lu Xiang paused, disregarding the conflicts between the two, and incredulously asked, "Are you saying Yanyan attended the celebration banquet at Bai Le Men?"
"I’m on my way to the scene," Gu Jinyan replied after a brief pause. "Old Bo getting out unscathed won’t be an issue—I’m worried something might happen to Qin Yan..."
Old Bo would never let anything happen to Qin Yan.
Lu Xiang’s thoughts were in disarray. She immediately ended the call and dialed Qin Yan’s number.
The call went through, but it rang until it automatically disconnected—nobody answered.
The two of them had always had a good relationship. Over the years, Lu Xiang had come to know Qin Yan well enough to understand she wouldn’t ignore a call for no reason.
With Bai Le Men not far from Feng Group, Lu Xiang didn’t bother asking Feng Chen for leave or even picking up her bag. She rushed downstairs, flagged a taxi on the street, and gave the location of Bai Le Men.
Lu Xiang and Gu Jinyan arrived at the same time. Gu Jinyan stopped when he saw her and asked, "Did you manage to reach Qin Yan?"
Lu Xiang shook her head.
The blaze was intense. Stepping cautiously in her high heels, she hurried over to one of the firefighters and quietly asked, "Could you tell me the status of the rescue inside?"
The firefighter glanced at her. "You’re here looking for someone?"
"There aren’t many injured, no casualties—the people inside have mostly been rescued. If you’re looking for someone, go directly to the hospital."
"The rescue effort is being coordinated with Tong City Central Hospital."
Lu Xiang sighed with relief. Turning back, she spotted Gu Jinyan embroiled in a tugging match with a young woman.
Lu Xiang didn’t recognize the woman. On closer inspection, though this woman had decent looks, having frequently seen her accompany Qin Yan, Lu Xiang didn’t find her particularly noteworthy.
With a cold laugh, she cast a quick glance at Gu Jinyan.
And here she thought he was genuinely worried about his "brothers." But after arriving, not a word about Bo Yunshen’s well-being—he seemed far more preoccupied with flirting and coziness.
Lu Xiang felt an uncontrollable pang of bitterness in her heart.
Right then, Gu Jinyan turned back and glanced briefly at her. Without addressing her, he refocused his attention on Lin Man and asked:
"Are you sure about what you said?"
Lin Man was trembling visibly. "Yunshen is really in there—he went in half an hour ago, saying he wanted to find Yanyan!"
"I told the firefighters, but they said the scanners aren’t picking up any vital signs inside!"
"Mr. Gu, please help Yunshen!"
"With flames like that, if he doesn’t come out now, he’ll die!"
Clenching his fists, Gu Jinyan asked, "Qin Yan is also inside?"
Lin Man wiped her tears, nodding first and then shaking her head. "I’m not sure."
"They all said Yanyan hasn’t come out, even Director Lu said she might still be inside."
"But Yunshen has been searching for so long—he even came out once in the middle—I... can’t confirm."
Gu Jinyan, hearing this, glanced around and asked, "Where’s Lu Yi?"
Lin Man looked around in confusion. "I... just saw him earlier."
Wrenching free from Lin Man’s tight grip on his sleeve, Gu Jinyan strode purposefully toward the firefighters.
Given the severity of the situation at Bai Le Men, the Fire Chief was present himself. Gu Jinyan recognized him and approached directly.
"Mr. Gu? What brings you here?"
The Fire Chief spoke with a tone low enough to betray a subtle hint of deference.
With an inscrutable expression, Gu Jinyan said, "Give me a set of fireproof gear."
Lu Xiang, about to leave, froze in her tracks upon hearing this. She whirled around, staring intently at Gu Jinyan and exclaimed, "What do you need fireproof gear for—are you planning to go inside?"
The Fire Chief grew anxious as well. "Mr. Gu, the fire is still uncontrolled—what would you do inside? It’s far too dangerous!"
"Old Bo is still inside!"
"But your team says there are no vital signs left in there!"
"I’m going in to find him myself!"
Old Bo... Bo Yunshen?
The connection between Gu Jinyan and the Bo Family, and the extent to which Gu Jinyan might risk his life in a fire for someone, made the Fire Chief realize instantly—no one but Bo Yunshen could elicit such a reaction.
"Old Bo is the only heir of the Bo Family, Mr. Shen. If anything were to happen to him in there, even you wouldn’t be able to account for it!"
Lu Xiang grabbed Gu Jinyan and said, "Didn’t you say it would be easy for Bo Yunshen to come out of the fire? How could he be in trouble?"
Gu Jinyan didn’t lift his eyelids. "Old Bo is inside looking for Qin Yan."
His gaze flickered with a sharp chill. If Lin Man’s words were true, Old Bo certainly had a remarkable sense of loyalty as a cousin.
Determined to enter the scene, Gu Jinyan left the Fire Chief no choice but to equip him with a set of fireproof gear.
As a precaution, he also handed him a fire extinguisher.
"Gu Jinyan, take someone with you to help search for Yanyan!"
At Lu Xiang’s words, Lin Man’s eyes flickered with an unreadable emotion.
