The Chef Rules the Last Days -
Chapter 509 - 507: Summoned the Waiter
Chapter 509: Chapter 507: Summoned the Waiter
Cha Mi stood there stunned, then heard Su Mo ask, "Did you volunteer to have Jin Han bring you here to apologize to me? Afraid I’d settle scores afterwards?"
She nodded shamefully.
Su Mo felt helpless; some people’s fates were perhaps meant to be this way.
She leaned back in her chair, "Alright, stop kneeling. We’re in a mutually beneficial situation. From now on you just focus on serving Jin Han’s team; I remember the last woman, she lived quite well. You won’t be much worse off."
Don’t blame Su Mo for being blunt; she genuinely felt this woman did not cherish her own body enough. If Cha Mi were willing to trust her, working here, her days wouldn’t be any worse than in Jin Han’s team.
"The last time..." Cha Mi instinctively looked towards Jin Han, who was sitting in a chair, smoking a cigarette, and said, "She offended someone she shouldn’t have, and was sent away."
"It was her," he pointed at Su Mo.
In that moment, Cha Mi was lost, not knowing how to describe the emotions surging within her. Was it bitterness, or regret? Perhaps both.
After such a reminder, she realized she had missed an opportunity to transcend social classes; maybe she would always have to live under men.
"Sir," a childish voice rang out from the entrance.
When Lu Chen came in, he saw the boy lingering at the door and let him in.
The moment Su Mo saw him, she stood up beaming with joy, "Bai Shitong is here?"
He twisted his tattered clothes while looking at the clean interior, and even rubbed his shoes outside before stepping in, "You mentioned a mission, I’ve completed it, that..."
"I know, you want your reward, right? Come here," Su Mo gestured to him and measured his height. His chest was much higher than the table, probably just under one meter sixty. Holding a tray would suit him just fine.
Bai Shitong allowed her to size him up, saying somewhat embarrassingly, "Sir... I am rather dirty, I’ve tried my best to clean up before coming here."
"Does the wound still hurt?" Su Mo touched his still somewhat swollen face, avoiding his question.
He shook his head in surprise, "No, it doesn’t hurt anymore."
"Well, I happen to need a server to carry trays. Would you consider, for your mother and you, serving here? A pastry chef will come by tomorrow, and as part of the payment, I can find a place for you and your mother to sleep in the small building by the river, and you’ll also get meals included."
Su Mo said all this in one breath, waiting for his response.
"Meals and lodging included?" Bai Shitong asked incredulously.
Su Mo ruffled his hair without any aversion to the dirt, "Yes, meals and lodging included. You can cook something from the restaurant for yourself after closing time."
What seemed like ordinary treatment was nothing short of a divine blessing to this boy named Bai Shitong.
Cha Mi was envious of this kind of treatment. It wasn’t until she followed Jin Han to Su Mo’s restaurant for the first time that she truly understood the meaning of regret. Of course, that’s a story for tomorrow.
Bai Shitong was so excited he almost jumped up, "Sir, we can do it! My mother and I will definitely be up to the task, and we’re really fast at washing dishes too!"
Su Mo was amused by his enthusiasm, "Good, bring your mother along. I have a few sets of clean clothes here, come wash up and change."
"I’ll go right now!" Bai Shitong turned to leave, his glance fleeting past Cha Mi, who had been smiling at him. He then paused, "Cha... Sister Cha Mi."
"Long time no see, Bai Shitong," she greeted warmly.
The boy nodded and seemed unwilling to say more, then turned and left.
"Alright, you two should head off too. Remember to come by tomorrow," Su Mo sat back down on the chair and started ushering them out.
Jin Han pinched out the cigarette in his hand, placed a large hand on Cha Mi’s shoulder, and generously said, "I’ll come again tomorrow and bring you to taste this person’s cooking."
Cha Mi bid farewell to Su Mo and was then led away.
Su Mo just shook her head as she watched her leaving figure, "Jin Han’s group is certainly not lacking in people."
Lu Chen heard the implication in her words, hooked his arm around her waist, and pulled her against his chest, his voice low, "What, have I not fed you enough?" fre.ewebnov el.com
Su Mo glared up at him, "I think if you act like this in front of others, you’ll be seen as a pervert."
"They won’t see," he said as he lowered his head and took a bite near her ear.
Su Mo shivered and quickly pushed him away, "Stop it, the food is all taken care of, but I haven’t finalized the menu yet. Also, I suddenly don’t want to provide menus with status anymore, I just want to offer a limited supply to designated customers."
The refugee camp was growing, and she always felt that she should be careful. She didn’t want to reveal all of her status dishes, and the same went for the tea.
Lu Chen also supported this, "There is a set of ordinary kitchenware in the kitchen, plus a canister of gas, you can use those for now."
Su Mo nodded, found some paper and a pen, and finalized the menu, mostly meat dishes with a limited supply of vegetables, as they were quite expensive to exchange in the market, hence the Crystal Stones were priced a bit higher.
By the time she finished with the menu, it was already night.
Bai Shitong came with his mother, Su Mo boiled a pot of water for the two of them to take away and bathe in the small bathroom on the first floor, and also prepared two sets of clothes for them.
The cleaned-up mother and son looked in good spirits, though they were too skinny.
"Good evening, I am Bai Shitong’s mother, Bai Yuee."
"Have you eaten?"
Su Mo asked.
The other party nodded cautiously, "We had some biscuits, thank you for your kindness."
After a moment’s thought, Su Mo said, "I’ll make some noodles for you, we can eat together."
"No, no, no, that won’t do," Bai Yuee shook her head repeatedly.
Su Mo patted the table, "Eat when I say eat, I’ve already said meals are included."
Feeling she was becoming impatient, Bai Shitong gently pulled his mother’s sleeve, and the two of them cautiously sat opposite Lu Chen.
They didn’t dare to raise their heads to look at the man in front of them, as his presence was somewhat suffocating, dispassionately cold.
Across the street from the restaurant, in the mutton shop, the door was tightly closed, and Zhao Li lay on the ground, his face covered in bruises.
"I was framed too! Captain! This isn’t my fault! You frequent Cha Mi’s place as well, don’t you! Now she’s run off with Jin Han!"
"That man from the Security Team, the leader of a group?" Fatty furrowed his brow, looking displeased.
Yet, Lin Yao was about to go mad; unsatisfied, she kicked Zhao Li again, "You were indeed set up! Jin Han is Su Mo’s man! Idiot! My reputation is completely rotten because of saving you!"
All of this was a conspiracy!
Lin Yao was so enraged her hands were trembling; she didn’t even want to leave the house these past few days. The filthy looks that were thrown her way almost made her lose control and want to gouge those eyes out.
Fatty glanced at Lin Yao beside him, reassuringly saying, "Don’t worry, as long as you have the Healing Superpower, no one dares to whisper a word."
