Chapter 839: Chapter 839: He Doesn’t Want to Pretend to Be Foolish Anymore

Silence spread continuously through the air.

Finally, Shi Qian was the first to break the silence. She spoke, "Brother Jingyan, you must be joking, right?"

She had let Bo’s mother know about Bo Jingyan and Xia Qingtian getting back together to pressure Bo Jingyan, hoping it would cause them to split up again, not for Bo Jingyan to admit under pressure that they had already reconciled.

How could this be happening?

She was now literally shooting herself in the foot!

She couldn’t accept this outcome at all and could only hope that Bo Jingyan would retract his statement.

"I’m not joking; we really have reconciled, and it has been quite a while," Bo Jingyan said as if he were afraid they wouldn’t believe him. He continued, "Last night, Qingtian and I were together, and she is still in the room now. I’ll bring her out to see you."

As he spoke, he turned and pushed the room door open, preparing to call out Xia Qingtian.

The moment he opened the door, he saw a shocked Xia Qingtian standing dumbfounded at the entrance.

"Come out with me!" Bo Jingyan stepped forward, took Xia Qingtian’s hand, and said.

At that moment, Xia Qingtian finally snapped back to reality.

She stood her ground, glared at Bo Jingyan, and asked in a lowered voice, "Have you lost your mind? Why are you suddenly admitting that we’re back together? Don’t you want to expose the person behind Shi Qian?"

Bo Jingyan didn’t explain much, merely asking, "Do you trust me?"

Without any hesitation or much thought, Xia Qingtian replied, "Of course I trust you!"

Her absolute trust greatly pleased Bo Jingyan.

A doting smile immediately appeared on his usually cold face as he said to Xia Qingtian, "Since you trust me, just do as I say."

With those words from him, Xia Qingtian didn’t say anything more. She relaxed and obediently followed his lead, appearing within sight of Bo’s mother and Shi Qian.

Shi Qian’s face turned green the moment she saw Xia Qingtian.

She shook Bo’s mother’s arm, signaling her to speak quickly.

The expression on Bo’s mother’s face was very ugly. "Bo Jingyan, I do not agree with you and Xia Qingtian getting back together!"

"It’s me who is in love with Qingtian and getting married to her, as long as I’m willing, that’s enough. I don’t necessarily need your approval," Bo Jingyan said with an unchanged expression, simply stating a fact. "If you really don’t like Qingtian, that’s fine. I don’t need you to like her, nor will I bring her in front of you to bother you. As a son, fulfilling my duties is already enough."

Not bringing Xia Qingtian in front of Bo’s mother was better; she could be herself without facing her mother-in-law’s difficulties or needing to please her.

Seeing that Bo Jingyan seemed not to care about Bo’s mother’s opinion and insisted on reconciling with Xia Qingtian, Shi Qian suddenly became anxious.

"Brother Jingyan, how can you talk to Mother Bo like this? Her condition has only just stabilized recently; she can’t be stressed. This will worsen her condition. Do you want to see Mother Bo’s health decline? She has already undergone two surgeries and can’t have a third. If her condition deteriorates further, then..."

At the end, she seemed too distressed to continue speaking.

Seeing her performance, Xia Qingtian scoffed inwardly.

If Shi Qian could display such professional acting skills in her usual performances, with the resources Mother Bo fed her, she should have already become a top-tier young actress and wouldn’t be stuck in her current mediocre state.

She had to admit, Shi Qian was quite adept in the art of conversation.

What she just said to Bo Jingyan seemed to be out of concern for his mother’s illness on the surface, but upon closer inspection, every sentence was a warning and a threat.

If it wasn’t for the fact that both she and Bo Jingyan knew his mother wasn’t really sick and the doctor was bribed, Shi Qian’s scheme might have succeeded.

Although Xia Qingtian felt disdain, she kept silent.

She turned her gaze towards Bo Jingyan, trying to figure out what he was really planning and what calculations were going on in his mind.

Bo Jingyan’s deep eyes held a sharp intensity as they landed on Shi Qian. He asked her coldly, "Is my mother’s condition as severe as you claimed? Or should I rather ask you this, has she..."

He paused and then asked deliberately, "Is she really sick?"

When Shi Qian heard him ask this, she felt a sudden tightness in her breath, and even her heartbeat skipped twice due to shock.

"Brother Jingyan, what are you talking about?" Her pupils dilated and her voice came out raw and hoarse, "Didn’t you review my mother’s medical records? The doctors also told you, why are you suddenly asking this?"

Though she appeared calm, she was actually quite flustered.

Why would Bo Jingyan ask her this? Did he know something?

Impossible. She had managed this matter very well. The two doctors treating Bo’s mother were already in cahoots with her. They wouldn’t dare betray her, or else they wouldn’t receive the payment they were promised, and their careers would be ruined.

They definitely wouldn’t dare!

Bo Jingyan’s questioning must have been mere suspicion, a ploy to frighten her. She couldn’t scare herself.

As Shi Qian thought this, she calmed down somewhat.

"Do you really not know?" Bo Jingyan asked with a smirk.

Shi Qian had steeled herself mentally and regained some rationality, yet she still felt a pounding heart facing his interrogation.

She dared not meet Bo Jingyan’s gaze, unconsciously stepping back a few steps to hide behind Bo’s mother.

Noticing Shi Qian’s fear, Bo’s mother stepped forward to block the fierce gaze for her, saying, "We are talking about the issue between you and Xia Qingtian right now, don’t take it out on Qianqian."

Bo Jingyan withdrew his gaze indifferently, "You don’t like Qingtian, yet you dote on Shi Qian as if she were your own daughter. You should ask yourself if she deserves your affection or even cares about you at all."

To Bo’s mother, his words sounded incredibly sardonic.

She frowned in displeasure, "If you really have a complaint against me or Shi Qian, say it directly instead of beating around the bush in my presence."

"Fine, since you want me to be direct, I will be. But be prepared!" Bo Jingyan slowly nodded.

Xia Qingtian instinctively grabbed Bo Jingyan’s hand, giving it a tug to signal him not to be impulsive.

Based on her understanding of Bo Jingyan, although he hadn’t said anything yet, his current behavior suggested he was planning to expose Shi Qian’s covert actions, particularly regarding his mother’s illness.

But haven’t they still not discovered who is backing Shi Qian?

Is it really okay to leave such a risk unresolved?
