Chapter 809: Chapter 809: Dislike Being Watched

When Shi Qian brought up her deceased mother, the expression on Mother Bo’s face softened a little.

Not only had Shi Qian’s mother saved her, but she had been the one who initially abandoned Shi Qian’s mother for the sake of the family, leading to her untimely demise in silent frustration.

Seeing Shi Qian now, crying with snot and tears dripping, Mother Bo’s heart suddenly softened and she couldn’t bear to blame her anymore.

"It’s okay, I’m not blaming you." She stepped forward, took out a tissue from her pocket, and wiped the tears from Shi Qian’s face. "Stop crying."

Knowing her reaction, Shi Qian understood that she had successfully overcome this hurdle.

She confirmed again, "Mother Bo, you really don’t blame me anymore?"

"Mmm." Mother Bo sighed, reached out to touch her face, and said, "Just don’t do this kind of thing in the future. I don’t like the feeling of being watched."

"Mother Bo, I won’t dare to do it again," Shi Qian immediately nodded vehemently as she promised, "I swear, I’ll never do such a thing again."

"I believe you!" Mother Bo took off the watch on her wrist and said, "Here, you can have this watch back."

The gifts that Shi Qian sent were not meant to be taken back; the watch had cost her a lot of money and represented her sincerity to Mother Bo. As long as Mother Bo kept wearing this watch, she would be reminded of Shi Qian’s filial piety.

Now that the watch was being returned to her, it represented a loss both in terms of sentiment and financially, but having just upset Mother Bo, she didn’t dare to refuse it.

The conflict between Shi Qian and Mother Bo had seemingly been resolved.

Xia Qingtian had been watching the whole affair, noticing that Shi Qian was cleverer and more adept at using everything at her disposal than she had anticipated. At a critical moment, bringing up her own mother had successfully won Mother Bo’s pity and put an end to their quarrel.

But it didn’t matter to her.

Her earlier remarks had been just a ploy to shift the blame elsewhere and to prevent revealing that she knew Mother Bo’s cancer had not recurred. She had never expected to overthrow Shi Qian simply with that.

If Shi Qian was truly that weak, Xia Qingtian and Bo Jingyan wouldn’t have gone from legally wed to secretly conducting an underground romance.

The drama over, Xia Qingtian didn’t want to waste any more time there. "Miss Shi, I’ll leave Mother Bo to you, I’m going now."

Shi Qian opened her mouth, wanting to keep her there.

She had not yet gotten the answers to the troubling questions she had just asked Xia Qingtian. She wasn’t willing to let her go so easily; what if she could bring the conversation back around, could she possibly make Mother Bo dislike Xia Qingtian even more?

But the words reached the tip of her tongue and she swallowed them back down, ultimately saying nothing.

It wasn’t because she had a change of heart and decided to let Xia Qingtian off the hook for the discord she had just fomed, but because...

She was a bit afraid of Xia Qingtian now!

She feared that if Xia Qingtian said something more, it would set a trap for her to fall into. Just now, she had leveraged the connection between her mother and Mother Bo.

If something else happened later, and she brought up this bond again, she feared the effect would not be as good as before. Also, no matter how deep a bond is, it can wear out eventually.

In the end, Shi Qian was like a gourd with its mouth sealed, forced to watch Xia Qingtian walk further and further away until suddenly...

Xia Qingtian seemed to think of something and abruptly stopped walking.

Shi Qian’s heart suddenly tightened. Why had she stopped? What was she going to do? Was she about to set another trap for her to fall into?

Xia Qingtian had no idea what Shi Qian was thinking.

She had just remembered that before dinner, she had gone out specifically to buy something for Mrs. Bo but had forgotten to give it to her, so she had no choice but to turn back again.

"What are you up to now?" Shi Qian, watching Xia Qingtian approach step by step, getting closer and closer to her and Mrs. Bo, was suddenly so frightened she took two steps back, her face full of wariness as she asked.

Seeing how scared Shi Qian was by her own approach, Xia Qingtian felt somewhat speechless, thinking to herself that she hadn’t done anything today, let alone hit anyone. How did she manage to scare her like this?

She did not answer Shi Qian’s question but instead took something out of her bag and handed it to Mrs. Bo, "This is for you!"

Mrs. Bo didn’t know what Xia Qingtian had bought but still subconsciously accepted it.

"What is it?" she asked.

Xia Qingtian didn’t play coy and replied directly, "It’s a burn ointment. I asked a pharmacist, and this is a foreign-imported medicine that has a very significant effect on burns."

Mrs. Bo’s expression suddenly became complex.

She had not expected Xia Qingtian to take her issue so seriously. She had never mentioned her burn, nor had she shown any discomfort.

Yet Xia Qingtian had noticed these little things and even went out of her way to buy medicine for her. Suddenly, she felt that Xia Qingtian might not be as unbearable as she had once thought.

"Thank you," she said softly to Xia Qingtian, expressing her gratitude.

Xia Qingtian said nothing and turned to leave once again.

This time, she did not look back.

Shi Qian noticed the change in Mrs. Bo’s expression and a glint of malice flickered in the depths of her eyes; it seemed that her efforts to ingratiate herself with Mrs. Bo were starting to bear fruit.

However, she was determined not to let Xia Qingtian succeed!

...

After parting from Mrs. Bo, Xia Qingtian suddenly felt a bit heart-weary.

Her original plan was to change her appearance and wait for Bo Jingyan at Bo Group after his work, and then have dinner together.

But she had spent so much time with Mrs. Bo that it was already late. Given Bo Jingyan’s work efficiency, he would have certainly finished his work and left the office by now. Even if she rushed to Bo Group, the only outcome awaiting her would be an empty building.

It seemed her plan was doomed to fail, and she wouldn’t be able to see Bo Jingyan today.

Xia Qingtian couldn’t help feeling a bit dejected at the thought.

She sighed and drove back to her estate, where she made a point of checking on An’an as usual, intending to play with her for a while.

Usually, at this time, An’an was still awake, and she could probably spend half an hour with her before bedtime.

But when she arrived today, she found An’an was fast asleep.

Xia Qingtian couldn’t help feeling worried—why had An’an gone to sleep so early today? She hoped An’an was not feeling unwell. She immediately asked the babysitter and the nurse.

The babysitter, seeing her anxiety, quickly reassured her, explaining that An’an had fallen asleep early today because she had just been playing for a bit and had worn herself out.

Knowing that An’an was simply tired from playing and not sick, Xia Qingtian breathed a huge sigh of relief and forgot to ask what An’an had played with that had tired her so much.

She bent down to the crib and kissed An’an’s chubby little face, wished her a good night, and then left the nursery without further disturbing her rest.

Dragging her weary body, she returned to her room and was too tired to bother with the lights; she groped her way to the bed in the dark.
