Chapter 808: Chapter 808 She’s Good at Shifting the Blame
Seeing Xia Qingtian unable to speak, Shi Qian felt an immense satisfaction deep inside.
"Why aren’t you speaking?" she aggressively continued to press Xia Qingtian, "Is it because I hit the nail on the head and now you have nothing to say?"
Bo’s mother also stared tightly at Xia Qingtian, her expression somewhat obscure and unclear.
Xia Qingtian couldn’t come up with a reason, but that didn’t mean she was willing to let Shi Qian pin such a huge blame on her. Since she couldn’t answer Shi Qian’s question, she might as well change the subject, turning her own question into Shi Qian’s problem.
Thinking this, she spoke, "If you want me to answer that question, it’s not impossible, but you have to answer a question of mine first."
"What?" Shi Qian asked subconsciously.
Seeing how quickly she had been led by the nose, Xia Qingtian felt incredibly satisfied and slowly said, "When did you find out Mrs. Bo was missing? Why did it take you so long to look for her? You claim to care about her, but it seems that’s all it is—just talk."
Shi Qian, thinking Xia Qingtian was trying to drive a wedge between her and Bo’s mother, immediately showed a disdainful expression and replied, "I found out about her disappearance twenty minutes ago. I had just finished work and went to visit Mrs. Bo at the hospital, that’s when I realized she was missing, and I immediately rushed out to look for her."
Saying this, Mrs. Bo should understand how much she cared about her, right?
This was exactly what Xia Qingtian was waiting for her to say.
Her lips curled into a cunning, malicious smile and she said, "If I remember correctly, the hospital where Mrs. Bo is staying is precisely a twenty-minute drive from here."
"So what?" Shi Qian didn’t see immediately how her statement correlated causally with what she had just said.
Instead, it was Bo’s mother whose gaze towards Shi Qian carried a few shards of sharpness.
Xia Qingtian, seeing Bo’s mother’s expression, knew she had grasped her meaning and her mood instantly lifted.
Without bothering about Shi Qian’s stupidity or slow mental reflexes, she directly clarified, "It’s nothing much; I’m just very curious about how you managed to know exactly where Mrs. Bo was, the instant you learned about her disappearance, and how you located her so precisely."
"You know, even Bo Jingyan wouldn’t have such a skill. If he had known about Mrs. Bo’s disappearance, he would probably have had to send someone to find out where she went before he could locate her. Today I found out that you’re actually even more capable than Bo Jingyan, who has extensive connections in A City!"
Shi Qian’s face instantly turned pale.
"You..." she glared at Xia Qingtian hatefully, her tone full of accusation, "You actually set me up to fall into a trap!"
Xia Qingtian smiled sweetly, "How could you call it setting a trap? I’m just really curious about how you did it. I think Mrs. Bo would be even more curious than I am. Why don’t you satisfy her curiosity first?"
She handed the spotlight back to Mrs. Bo and excused herself from the situation.
Mrs. Bo didn’t disappoint Xia Qingtian’s expectations and looked steadily at Shi Qian before asking, "Qianqian, shouldn’t you give me an explanation?"
She certainly didn’t believe that the question Xia Qingtian had just asked Shi Qian was merely a coincidence.
Shi Qian pursed her lips and couldn’t answer the question.
Mrs. Bo, however, didn’t give her a chance to evade, continuing to press, "Qianqian, answer my question properly. How did you know I was here?"
She hadn’t brought any money or a phone with her. Before her arrival, she herself had no idea where she would end up; her only thought was to go wherever her feet took her.
If there hadn’t been a catch, Shi Qian wouldn’t have been able to find her so quickly.
Seeing the current situation, Shi Qian realized that pretending or trying to muddle through was clearly not going to work. She had to speak up, whether she wanted to or not.
She lowered her head and confessed in a low voice to Bo’s mother, "I put a tracking device in the watch I gave you."
"What?" Bo’s mother felt somewhat shocked.
She incredulously lifted her wrist, on which sat a very finely crafted watch. Shi Qian had spent more than half of her savings from her hard work to buy this watch for her, intending to encourage her and hoping she would soon overcome her illness.
Touched by Shi Qian’s thoughtfulness, she had immediately replaced her own watch that she had worn for many years with the one Shi Qian had bought.
She had not expected Shi Qian to secretly add a tracking device to the watch.
In this way, Shi Qian could track her location anytime and anywhere. In Shi Qian’s presence, she would almost become a person without any privacy.
In today’s society, everyone needs their privacy and their own space. Even if Shi Qian adored her, the intrusion would still feel deeply uncomfortable.
Bo’s mother’s displeasure was quite apparent, even to a blind person.
Sweat broke out on Shi Qian’s forehead.
Her career and her love life, supported entirely by Bo’s mother’s affection, were the soil she relied on to survive. She dared not imagine into what kind of tragic situation she would fall if she lost this love.
And all of this was thanks to Xia Qingtian.
Shi Qian cast a resentful glance at Xia Qingtian, her hatred for her deepening once again.
Xia Qingtian, sensing her angry gaze, knew she must hate her to death, but she didn’t care at all.
Watching Shi Qian go pale and then flush, even breaking out in a fine sweat from nervousness, she couldn’t help feeling delight.
Her only regret was that she didn’t have a handful of sunflower seeds; munching on them while watching would have been perfect.
However, she had always been kind-hearted. Though she really disliked the way Shi Qian was looking at her, she still kindly reminded her, "Miss Shi, why are you looking at me? You still haven’t answered the question Bo’s wife just asked you."
Considering her current predicament, Shi Qian couldn’t afford to keep up her rivalry with Xia Qingtian; she had to deal with the immediate crisis first.
She bit her lip, and her eyes swiftly reddened as she looked at Bo’s mother pitifully, "Bo’s mom, I know I was wrong. I shouldn’t have put a tracker on you. I was just too worried about you."
Bo’s mother’s brows were still deeply furrowed, obviously unimpressed by what sounded like a perfunctory excuse.
Seeing this tactic was ineffective, Shi Qian continued, "I was just too scared, too unsettled. My own mother..."
She suddenly choked up at this point.
"My mother just disappeared one day out of the blue, and the next time I saw her, it was her body. That incident left a deep psychological scar on me. I’m so afraid that one day you will also suddenly disappear and I won’t be able to find you. So even though I knew it would make you angry, I still did it."
