Cheng Bingbing’s face suddenly changed, her pupils dilating slightly with fear.

Because she discovered that the hospital bed was empty.

Where was Huo Qilin?

Where had he gone? Had he been taken by the man who had been threatening her? Was he in danger?

These thoughts caused Cheng Bingbing’s face to turn ashen.

She leaped off the sofa without bothering to put on her shoes and rushed towards the door of the sickroom. As she reached the door, she collided with someone coming in.

"Bingbing, what’s the rush?" Xia Qingtian held onto Cheng Bingbing’s arm and questioned her.

It was then that Cheng Bingbing realized the person she had bumped into was Xia Qingtian.

She held onto Xia Qingtian’s arm tightly, clutching so hard that her nails almost pierced the skin.

"Qingtian, Qilin he..." she tried to convey her fear about Huo Qilin’s disappearance to Xia Qingtian in a highly emotional state.

"It’s alright, Huo Qilin is fine," Xia Qingtian, knowing what she was about to say, cut her off and told her, "He was taken for a check-up by the doctors. He saw that you were sleeping soundly and didn’t want to disturb you, so he asked me not to wake you up."

"I was worried that you would be anxious when you woke up, so I came to leave a note for you. I didn’t expect you to be awake."

Upon learning that Huo Qilin was safe, Cheng Bingbing immediately relaxed.

"As long as he’s fine," she murmured, unable to control her relief, "As long as he’s fine."

Even though she had relaxed, Xia Qingtian looked at her inquisitively, "Bingbing, did something happen?"

Cheng Bingbing hesitated for a moment, "I..."

Before she could finish, the sudden ring of a mobile phone startled her.

Because of the man who had been threatening her, she now had a stress reaction to the sound of a ringtone. She was afraid it might be him, threatening her again. Fortunately, the phone that rang was Xia Qingtian’s.

Xia Qingtian looked at the caller ID. It was her assistant calling.

Because Cheng Bingbing looked rather unwell, she didn’t walk away but instead answered the call in front of her.

Once she had picked up, her assistant reminded her of a nine o’clock meeting scheduled for the morning.

Xia Qingtian looked at the time, finding it was already close to nine. Even if she left immediately, she wouldn’t make it in time for the meeting at the office. All she could do was to ask her assistant to reschedule the meeting to two in the afternoon.

The assistant agreed, and reminded her of other important events for the afternoon, telling her not to forget.

After hanging up, Xia Qingtian turned to Cheng Bingbing, "What were you about to say just now?"

Cheng Bingbing shook her head, "I’m fine."

With so many things going on in Xia Qingtian’s company, she didn’t want to create more trouble for her.

Xia Qingtian had a feeling she wasn’t telling the truth, but just as she was about to press further, a nurse escorting the freshly checked-up Huo Qilin returned.

Cheng Bingbing immediately went over to Huo Qilin, anxiously questioning the doctor and nurse, "How is the patient? Is there any problem?"

"Don’t worry, the patient is fine now. He just needs a few more days’ rest before he can be discharged," the nurse, knowing her worries, reassured her with a smile on her face.

"Thank you," Cheng Bingbing replied gratefully.

Huo Qilin, suppressing the pain in his body, took her hand and said apologetically, "I’m sorry for worrying you."

"Don’t say things like that," Cheng Bingbing shook her head and tightened her grip on his hand, "As long as you’re fine."

She couldn’t bear to think about what would have happened if something had happened to Huo Qilin.

As Huo Qilin was wheeled back into the ward, Xia Qingtian’s phone rang again. She stepped out of the ward to answer the call, which was from the film crew.

They were about to start filming for the day, but they hadn’t been able to find the female lead, Cheng Bingbing. Her phone was unreachable, so they had no choice but to call her agent directly.

Xia Qingtian glanced at Cheng Bingbing, who was still by Huo Qilin’s side and talking to him.

Instead of explaining that Cheng Bingbing was delayed due to a personal matter, she took the blame herself and said that she had called Cheng Bingbing to the office and had asked her to switch off her phone, hence they were unable to reach her.

She knew that this would frustrate the film crew, but she didn’t care. After all, she didn’t have to work on set, nor did she have to deal with the director and the crew on a daily basis, and therefore didn’t have to worry about their moods.

Regardless of how the crew felt about her, she could afford to turn a blind eye to it.

But it was different for Cheng Bingbing!

Cheng Bingbing had to be on set every day to film, and she was quite sensitive. Being disliked by everyone on the staff would certainly upset her greatly, and she would definitely bottle it all up.

If this went on, Xia Qingtian was indeed worried that she might break down.

Just as Xia Qingtian had expected, when she told them that Cheng Bingbing’s inability to reach the set, hence delaying the filming, was her fault, the crew member on the line turned harsh in tone but held back as she was the soon-to-be-listed company’s boss.

The crew member simply told her to have Cheng Bingbing return to the set as soon as possible.

Xia Qingtian agreed.

After hanging up, Xia Qingtian went back into the ward and said to Cheng Bingbing, "Bingbing, someone from the crew just called. They want you to go back and start filming as soon as possible."

Upon hearing this, Cheng Bingbing visibly stiffened.

At a time like this, she really didn’t want to go anywhere, just wanted to be by Huo Qilin’s side.

But she also knew that if she did that, it would not only cause trouble for the film crew, but also for Xia Qingtian. Despite her reluctance, she nodded, "Okay, I understand."

Then she turned to Huo Qilin, worry apparent in her eyes, "Qilin, I..."

"I know," Huo Qilin cut her off, gently telling her, "You should go to work. The doctors and nurses are here to take care of me, and I also have family."

"Yes." Cheng Bingbing nodded.

She reluctantly let go of Huo Qilin’s hand, then turned to Xia Qingtian and requested, "Qingtian, could you please give me a ride to the set?"

Xia Qingtian couldn’t help but glance at her. It wasn’t that she was unwilling. In fact, she would have offered to drive her back to the set even if she hadn’t asked. She was just surprised that Cheng Bingbing would make such a request when she usually disliked causing trouble for others.

She figured that Cheng Bingbing might have something to say that she couldn’t discuss in front of Huo Qilin, hence using the ride back to the set as an excuse.

Xia Qingtian readily agreed, "Sure."

Once they left the ward, Cheng Bingbing reminded the nurse to take good care of Huo Qilin. Only after the nurse promised to do so did she feel at ease enough to leave the hospital with Xia Qingtian.
