Chapter 779: Chapter 779 - Winning People’s Hearts for Her_1
Today was the day they returned to the city for a revisit to the hospital. Given Cheng Bingbing’s previous demeanor, she should not be as happy as she now appeared, even if she was no longer showing resistance.
Xia Qingtian felt that Cheng Bingbing was acting very unusually.
Cheng Bingbing pursed her lips.
The man had given her a week’s deadline, which had already passed, and he had done nothing, let alone sought her out. She assumed he must have already given up.
Despite her efforts, she couldn’t help but feel elated!
However, she couldn’t voice these thoughts. She decided to make up an excuse instead. "I had a good night’s sleep last night, which is why I am in such a good mood today."
Xia Qingtian took a scrutinizing look at her; indeed, she seemed to be in high spirits today, so she made no further inquiries.
Soon, the group returned to the city and took Cheng Bingbing to the hospital.
Following a check-up, the doctor found that Cheng Bingbing was recovering well from her ligament injury. Huo Qilin had taken good care of her, so much so that her injury no longer affected her walking or work efficiency.
With confirmation that her ligaments were no longer a problem, she hastily returned to the set to resume filming.
Huo Qilin, meanwhile, resumed preparations for his upcoming concert.
Both Xia Qingtian and Bo Jingyan returned to their respective workstations.
Both were busy individuals, so being able to take a break and play for a couple of days was already a small luxury.
Upon returning to the company, Xia Qingtian was swamped with tasks, leaving her with practically no breathing space. Nonetheless, she managed to squeeze out some time to personally visit the film set and check on Cheng Bingbing.
She was primarily there to thank the crew on Bingbing’s behalf and to soothe any animosity resulting from the delay caused by Bingbing’s injury.
It was easier to appease a king than to placify his minions.
Even minuscule roles or mundane tasks on set, if undermined, could create significant problems.
Xia Qingtian was there to prevent such unpleasant situations from arising.
When she arrived, Cheng Bingbing was filming, so she chose to stand silently beside the director after greeting him. Through the camera lens, Cheng Bingbing seemed to have transformed into a different person.
Xia Qingtian had been with Cheng Bingbing from her initial years in the industry.
Bingbing’s acting skills were evidently improving at an astonishing rate. The future was looking bright.
Feeling proud of the actor she personally had discovered, Xia Qingtian watched as the director asked Cheng Bingbing to perform the same scene in different ways. She thought Cheng Bingbing had performed excellently, yet the director apparently felt differently.
Bingbing’s patience remained unfazed. Each take was even more stunning than the previous. She was, without a doubt, maturing as an actor.
After over a dozen takes, the director was finally satisfied and did not ask for additional ones.
Although the vitality Cheng Bingbing had portrayed in front of the camera had diminished after leaving the set, she was utterly exhausted.
Witnessing her exhaustion and the arrival of the beverages Xia Qingtian had ordered for the crew, the director declared a half-an-hour break.
Xia Qingtian addressed the crew, "Thank you all for your hard work. Bingbing asked me to buy coffee, milk tea, and some snacks as thanks for your care and support during this period."
"Thank you, Bingbing."
When the crew heard there were snacks available, they were visibly excited, thanking Bingbing in quick succession.
Cheng Bingbing, who was too immersed in her acting, hadn’t noticed Xia Qingtian’s arrival until she heard her speak.
She immediately perked up and walked towards Qingtian. "Even though you paid for these, everyone should be thanking you."
Seeing Cheng Bingbing all sweaty, Xia Qingtian took out a tissue from her handbag and wiped Bingbing’s face clean.
"But I bought them for you," she replied. "I hardly visit the set, whereas you work and spend most of your time here. It’s important for you to maintain good relationships with everyone here, which will make your work more efficient."
Never before had anyone considered her feelings so thoughtfully. Cheng Bingbing was deeply moved.
"Thank you, Qingtian," she said with gratitude.
Not wanting to continue the lovey-dovey exchange of gratitude, Xia Qingtian handed her a cup of milk tea and a slice of cake. "You should eat something and regain some energy. The filming seemed quite intense.
Cheng Bingbing accepted them with a smile. "The director is merely striving for the best."
She understood the director’s eagerness for this production to be a success and noticed that her acting skills had improved as a result.
Seeing that she didn’t feel aggrieved, Xia Qingtian felt relieved.
The two went on to chat casually.
Suddenly, a notification alert sounded from Bingbing’s new phone.
She put her cake down to pick up the phone.
"You continue eating; I’ll get it for you," Xia Qingtian said, picking up Bingbing’s phone from the table and handing it over for her to unlock with her face ID.
The reason Cheng Bingbing’s phone rang was that someone had sent her a message. The message was from an unknown number and was short and simple with just one line, "Time’s up!"
Although she had no idea who sent the message or why it was sent, Cheng Bingbing froze in realization.
Suddenly, she was unable to hold the piece of cake in her hand, which squeezed and crumbled. The cup of milk tea, which was still steaming and hot, tipped over and spilled on her. A dry burning sensation spread across her skin.
Some of the hot milk tea splashed onto Xia Qingtian, causing her to tremble from the sudden heat.
Most of it had spilled over Cheng Bingbing.
Ignoring the discomfort, Xia Qingtian immediately assisted Cheng Bingbing in standing up, asked in concern, "Bingbing, are you alright? Did you get burned? Let me see."
Despite repeatedly questioning, Cheng Bingbing remained silent as if she felt no pain.
Feeling strangely uneasy, Xia Qingtian lifted her eyes to Bingbing’s face. She was as pale as a ghost with a blank, soulless expression, resembling a battered rag doll.
