Chapter 747: Chapter 747: I Will Definitely Fulfill The Promise_1
Bo Jingyan had just formulated a new treatment plan with the doctor and sent him out of the ward.
Returning to the ward, he glanced at his mum, who was still in a coma, and felt a headache coming on.
His mother had heard his conversation with the old Chinese medicine doctor, and she must have preferred to believe the latter’s words, thinking she was not sick. Now it was proven that the old man diagnosed her wrongly.
The doctor who had performed her surgery had confirmed that her cancer had indeed returned.
If his mother found out about this after waking up, she’d definitely be devastated.
Sometimes, it was crueler to offer someone hope and then dash it, rather than keeping them in the dark all along.
Fearing that she couldn’t handle the emotional fallout, Bo Jingyan had to swallow his dislike for Shi Qian and ask for her help. After all, his mom cared for her the most. With her by his mom’s side, consoling and comforting her, his mom should feel better.
With this in mind, he turned to Shi Qian and said, "Stay with her. If she wakes up and can’t accept it, I might need more of your help. Consider it as me owing you a favor. I will pay you back in the future."
Shi Qian felt uncomfortably flattered seeing that he was willing to talk to her.
She took this opportunity to prove herself, shaking her hands quickly and saying, "Brother Jingyan, you don’t need to be so formal with me. Your mother has been so kind to me, and now is the time for me to repay her kindness. It is my responsibility. There is no need for you to owe me any favors or do anything for me."
After expressing her heartfelt words, she subtly asked for a favor, by saying, "Once your mother’s mood stabilizes, if you could take me out to a nice dinner, I’ll be more than satisfied."
"Alright." Bo Jingyan acquiesced.
The sooner he repays this favor, the better. He didn’t want to owe Shi Qian anything.
"That’s wonderful." Shi Qian lit up with a happy smile. Just as she was about to say something else, suddenly...
Bo Jingyan’s phone started to ring.
He took out his phone, saw it was Xia Qingtian calling, and excused himself.
He instructed her while leaving, "I have to step away for a bit. Stay here with her, reach out to me immediately if anything happens."
Shi Qian felt their relationship thawing a little and, although she was reluctant to let him leave so soon, she needed to show comprehension.
"Alright," she assured him, "Leave your mother to me. Rest assured, I’ll take good care of her."
Bo Jingyan nodded in acknowledgement and walked out of the room, phone in hand.
Upon reaching a secure location, the call had already been disconnected due to the delay. He immediately redialed Xia Qingtian’s number. Only one ring later, it was picked up.
Apparently, Xia Qingtian had been waiting for his call back.
"How did it go?" Xia Qingtian asked full of expectation.
She had an important meeting to attend. As the company’s boss, she couldn’t be absent. Therefore, she hadn’t been to the hospital nor stayed in touch with Bo Jingyan that day.
She was clueless about what had transpired at the hospital.
Rather than explaining over the phone, Bo Jingyan glanced at the time and suggested, "It’s complicated. Why don’t we meet up and discuss in person? It’s about lunchtime now. We can have lunch together."
"Okay." Xia Qingtian agreed.
Once everything was set, Bo Jingyan drove to the entertainment company to pick her up.
Before long, she had joined him.
They arrived at a secluded restaurant nearby the company.
Bo Jingyan ordered all of Xia Qingtian’s favorite dishes. The restaurant served their food rapidly. Before they even had a chance to talk, all the dishes were ready.
Xia Qingtian asked Bo Jingyan, "How were the results today?"
Bad, of course. He worried that revealing this would spoil her appetite.
Instead of answering her question, he took his chopsticks and picked up a piece of crab meat, meticulously shelling it and placing it on a small platter in front of her, "Let’s eat first, we can talk after."
Xia Qingtian looked at the meat and crab roe in front of her but had no intention of picking up her chopsticks.
"Can you really think I have an appetite when I’m worried about all these things?" She looked up at Bo Jingyan.
Seeing her like this, Bo Jingyan knew he couldn’t put it off.
He sighed, expressing his helplessness, "Yes, she really is sick."
Xia Qingtian had already guessed the answer from his hesitant behavior. Yet when he finally vocalized it, she was still shocked.
She widened her eyes in disbelief, "How could it be? The old Chinese doctor you found..."
"He made a misdiagnosis because of his old age." Bo Jingyan stated heavily. "I found the surgeon who operated on her before, from abroad. He conducted a full-body examination and confirmed the previous results. Her cancer indeed has relapsed."
Xia Qingtian fell into silence upon hearing this.
Two doctors that Bo Jingyan trusted had given their verdicts. If it was just one, there might still be room to doubt. But now that they were both in agreement, it left no room for doubt.
Even the old Chinese doctor who had previously assured that Bo Jingyan’s mother was fine, had overturned his own diagnosis.
"So we were being too optimistic after all." She finally conceded with a mixture of feelings.
Suddenly, she felt warmth cover her hand.
Looking down, she saw that Bo Jingyan had taken her hand.
With blazing determination in his eyes, Bo Jingyan fervently said, "Give me some more time. After her disease gets better, I will accomplish everything that I promised you."
While her feelings were somewhat deflated, they were fleeting and could be disregarded.
She was aware that Bo Jingyan was likely feeling more uncomfortable compared to her. She returned the grip, "Silly, you don’t have to say these things. No matter how long, I’ll always wait for you. Even if your mother’s disease doesn’t get better, it doesn’t stop us from dating."
With that, she leaned in and kissed Bo Jingyan, beaming sweetly, and consoling him, "We’re actually quite good this way."
"Alright." Bo Jingyan drew her into his arms.
Although he didn’t say anything, he silently resolved to cure his mother’s illness as swiftly as possible.
He loved Xia Qingtian and didn’t want her to keep sneaking around with him.
...
Meanwhile...
After Bo Jingyan had left, and seeing that his mother was still in a coma and didn’t appear likely to wake up anytime soon, Shi Qian quietly slipped out of the ward. She found a quiet enclosed space and dialed a number on her phone.
