Chapter 744: Chapter 744: Afraid of Losing You_1
Bo Jingyan felt something was off when Xia Qingtian fell silent.
Looking down, he saw the little woman in his arms with an unusually solemn face, her expression almost seeming to carry a deep-seated resentment.
He knew what was bothering Xia Qingtian. Unable to resist, he gently ruffled her hair, trying to bring levity to the situation by joking, "Why are you overthinking everything? Even if the sky falls down, I’ll be there to hold it up for you."
Xia Qingtian brushed his hand away, "I don’t want to be just the woman behind your back!"
Bo Jingyan laughed at her response, "If you don’t want to be my lady, who else’s will you be?"
"Can’t I be a woman who walks beside you, facing every challenge together?" Xia Qingtian asked, her face beaming with pride. "My company will hit the stock market soon. While it certainly can’t compete with the Bo Group, I believe that as long as I work hard, I can eventually close the gap between us."
"I don’t want to be a little woman, I want to be a shoulder you can lean on when you are tired."
Bo Jingyan had to admit, hearing her say those words made his hollow heart feel suddenly filled. "Wife, when did you get so good at sweet talking?"
With feigned indignation, Xia Qingtian responded, "I meant every word I said!"
"Mmm..." Bo Jingyan once again pulled her tightly into his arms.
He was hugging her so fiercely that it became hard to breathe. She had to remind him, "You need to loosen your grip, you’re suffocating me."
"No!" He loosened his grip a bit but didn’t let go, saying, "I’m going to keep holding you like this, so no one can take you away from me!"
Xia Qingtian was both amused and exasperated.
Although she wasn’t exactly the kind of woman men would kill for, she found it amusing that he was worried someone might try to steal her away from him. But, seeing how anxious Bo Jingyan was about losing her made her happy. He could hold her all he wanted, for all she cared.
...
Meanwhile.
After leaving Jingyan’s mother’s room, the attending physician didn’t go to check on any other patients as he’d claimed to.
He hastily retreated to his office.
Once inside, he locked the door to ensure no one could enter without his consent. His legs gave way, and he slumped to the floor.
But he didn’t seem to feel any pain.
What could he do?
What was he going to do?
Bo Jingyan had somehow found an old man who could tell just by inspection that his mother’s cancer had never recurred.
Given Bo Jingyan’s character, he must already have doubts about him.
His plan had worked, primarily because Bo Jingyan had let his guard down, allowing everything to go smoothly.
Now, he realized just how foolish he’d been. Any other doctor could have examined Bo’s mother again and exposed his deceit.
The doctor’s mind was now filled with the warnings Bo Jingyan had issued in the ward.
He said that he despised deception the most and if anyone dared to deceive him, he would make them wish for death!
The more the doctor thought about it, the more frightened he became!
No, he couldn’t just do nothing. He had to save himself.
Yes, he had to act!
The only reason he lied to Bo Jingyan was that he was bribed by Shi Qian. She had promised him a large sum of money and a smooth career in the hospital, in exchange for his cooperation.
Now that trouble had arrived, Shi Qian was definitely involved as well.
Wasn’t Shi Qian well-connected with the Bo Family?
Maybe she could save him.
With that thought, the doctor felt as if he’d caught a lifeline. With trembling fingers, he dialed Shi Qian’s number.
Shi Qian, who had just finished at an event and was taking off her makeup, was surprised when she saw the incoming call. Upon answering, she asked in a stern tone, "It’s not yet time for your monthly payment, why are you calling me for?"
She knew how sharp Bo Jingyan was so she always tread carefully when dealing with the doctor to avoid raising any suspicion.
Unless absolutely necessary, they had minimal contact.
The monthly payment period was near and with the doctor calling, she thought he was asking for an early payment.
"It’s about Mr. Bo..." The doctor’s voice was trembling with fear. "He brought in some old man who claimed that Mrs. Bo isn’t sick at all!"
"What?" Shi Qian’s voice involuntarily rose in alarm.
Thinking she hadn’t heard him clearly, the doctor patiently repeated the news.
Shi Qian had actually heard him the first time, but she didn’t want to believe it. Now, forced to face reality, she had to accept the situation.
Her heart was pounding wildly. Anxiously, she asked, "Did Brother Jingyan grow suspicious of you?"
Recalling Bo Jingyan’s threatening speech in the ward, the doctor felt it was clear that Bo Jingyan had already started having doubts.
He was genuinely terrified and knew he had to drag Shi Qian down with him. He gritted out, "Mr. Bo isn’t a fool. He must already be suspicious."
"He even said he hates being lied to. Anyone who deceives him will wish they were dead!"
With the fall of the doctor’s last word, Shi Qian couldn’t help but shiver.
She hadn’t been in the room, but she could imagine the cold, ruthless expression Bo Jingyan must have had on his face when he said those words.
Seeing her silence, the doctor became agitated, "Ms. Shi, what should we do?"
Shi Qian was in a foul mood.
Irritated by the doctor’s incessant questioning, she snapped, "Stop asking, you’re so annoying!"
The doctor was taken aback by her reaction. Instantly, his heart sank.
He was afraid that if Bo Jingyan found out about the secret deal between him and Shi Qian, Shi Qian might choose to abandon him. He had been receiving a large sum of money from Shi Qian every month, enough for a lifetime of comfort.
But what of it?
No amount of money was of any use without a life to spend it.
Thinking of the potential consequences of crossing Bo Jingyan, the doctor became desperate. With a burst of anger, he threatened, "Ms. Shi, I acted on your instructions regarding Mrs. Bo’s condition. If you abandon me, I swear I’ll confess everything to Mr. Bo."
