Cheng Bingbing found it strange the way Huo Qilin spoke.

She frowned, asking worriedly, "Did you do something to them?"

"Are you concerned about them?" Huo Qilin raised an eyebrow in response.

"Of course not!" Cheng Bingbing denied immediately.

Considering that her parents nearly ruined her future with their scheming, she wasn’t a masochist, how could she still care about them?

Hearing her worry about him, Huo Qilin felt a void in his heart being somewhat filled.

With that, he took out a cheque from his chest pocket and handed it to Cheng Bingbing, "This is what I found on them, now it gets back to you."

Cheng Bingbing instinctively reached out and took it.

"Okay, I’m going to sleep," she responded obediently.

Yet, due to her anxiety, her long, curled eyelashes fluttered like a raven wing, radiating a certain vulnerability.

Huo Qilin was drawn towards her, craving to plant a kiss on her closed lids.

Snapping back into reality just as his lips were about to meet her skin, he slapped himself hard.

He cursed himself in his mind, "Huo Qilin, have you gone insane? Bingbing sees you as her best friend, how could you impose yourself on her? Especially when she has just been through an ordeal with her biological parents nearly selling her off to another man."

Awoken by the slapping sound, Cheng Bingbing jolted up, opening her eyes wide, "What happened? What’s going on?"

Cheng Bingbing eyed his blushing handsome face, a hint of suspicion flashing in her eyes.

"Aren’t you tired? Go to sleep quickly," Huo Qilin sounded irritable.

Cheng Bingbing could sense that his mood was terrible for some unknown reason, even though their previous conversation had been pleasant.

However, it seemed like Huo Qilin wouldn’t tell her.

She chose not to probe, obediently closing her eyes once more. She was genuinely exhausted, so she drifted off into sleep soon after.

Meanwhile, Huo Qilin covered his face, feeling self-disgust.

He wondered why he became so vile facing Cheng Bingbing.
