Chapter 651: Chapter 651: Strike the Snake at the Vital Point _1

After hanging up the phone, Huo Qilin waited at home for Cheng Bingbing to return.

And he waited for several hours.

It was even later than her usual wrap-up time on the film set, and Huo Qilin couldn’t help but worry if she had run into some sort of trouble.

As he was considering whether to call Cheng Bingbing to confirm her safety, just then...

His mobile phone suddenly rang.

He looked down and found that the incoming call was from Cheng Bingbing.

He answered the call as swiftly as possible and asked, "Bingbing, have you finished on your end? Should I come pick you up now?"

There was a significant pause on Cheng Bingbing’s end before she finally said, "No need, something unexpected happened here and I can’t come back early. You don’t need to wait for me, get some rest."

"It’s okay." Huo Qilin didn’t want to give up just like that; he still wanted her to listen to his new song. "I slept a lot during the day, so I’m not tired at all. Whenever you’re done, just call me and I’ll come get you."

Cheng Bingbing didn’t want to trouble him any further. "Really, it’s not necessary. After I’m done here, I’ll stay at a hotel near the film set. I have an early shooting tomorrow, so I don’t want to travel back and forth."

Having heard her say this, what more could Huo Qilin say?

But he couldn’t help feeling disappointed.

"Alright then..." Forcing himself to act lively and hiding his disappointment, he casually said, "I’ll bring some ice cream over when I visit your set tomorrow."

This time, Cheng Bingbing accepted his offer without any refusal and replied excitedly, "Okay."

With that, Huo Qilin’s disappointment was healed.

He wanted to continue the chat with Cheng Bingbing, "About the ice cream..."

But before he could finish, he heard muffled swear words from the other side of the call.

"Bingbing, what happened?" He immediately asked with a furrowed brow.

"Nothing..." Cheng Bingbing replied.

However, Huo Qilin was not easily brushed off, so he directly asked, "Then why did I just hear someone yelling?"

"I..." Cheng Bingbing explained, "I came out to call you because the private room for dinner was too noisy, and I accidentally blocked a drunkard’s way, so he hurled a few insults at me."

"Is that so? Are you okay?" Huo Qilin asked nervously.

"I’m fine." Cheng Bingbing said, "I’ve been out for a while now. I have to stop chatting with you. Whatever it is, we can talk tomorrow when you come to the set."

Huo Qilin could only regretfully say, "Alright then, go back to your private room and stay safe."

Without saying anything further, Cheng Bingbing ended the call.

As soon as she put down her phone, she felt a finger jabbing hard at her forehead while her mother’s scolding echoed by her ear, "You useless girl, on the phone for so long, keeping your father and me waiting! You have no manners!"

Cheng Bingbing didn’t react at all to the scolding.

For her, growing up under such constant scoldings didn’t really hurt or affect her in any way. She didn’t care.

Only after her mother seemed to have finished her round of scolding did she impatiently ask, "What do you want this time?"

She had previously agreed with the director to leave shortly after sitting down, and the director had promised to let her leave as soon as she felt she had fulfilled her obligation. She had been about to leave when she was stopped by her parents outside the hotel.

Cheng Bingbing knew her parents well enough to know they could be quite persistent; once they latched onto her it would be difficult to escape, especially when Huo Qilin was waiting for her at home.

So, she threatened her parents to let her make a phone call first.

They could discuss whatever they needed to after she was done with her phone call, otherwise, there would be nothing to talk about.

Perhaps softened by his recent spell in police custody, Cheng Bingbing’s father surprisingly agreed, albeit muttering nonstop during her call with Huo Qilin, almost causing Huo Qilin to notice something.

Luckily, she managed to cover it up.

It wasn’t that she wanted to hide it from Huo Qilin purposely, but that she didn’t want to drag him into her family drama. Furthermore, she also wanted to maintain what little dignity she had left in front of him, hoping he wouldn’t see how shameless her parents were.

"You damn girl, I’ve put up with you long enough, daring to speak to your own parents with this attitude. It seems like you’ve been away from home too long and need to be taught a lesson." Cheng Bingbing’s father had been tolerating her, but he lost his patience at her insolence. He raised his hand, poised to strike her face.

But Cheng Bingbing was no longer the clueless and helpless little girl who would simply stand there and bear her parents’ beatings without fighting back.

"Try hitting me and you’ll regret it!" She boldly stood her ground, rebuking him fiercely.

After many years in the entertainment industry, she’d met plenty of influential figures. She could at least feign an imposing manner if she wanted to.

Cheng Bingbing’s father was taken aback by her bravado. He froze with his hand in the air, unable to bring himself to deliver the slap to her face.

"You dare threaten me?" His face changed colors, alternating between pale and flushed.

Being easily intimidated by his own daughter was a huge disgrace to him as a man who prided himself on his male chauvinism.

"I’m not threatening you; I’m warning you!" Cheng Bingbing stared back calmly, her voice cold. "You should know that we’re in A City, not our backward, isolated hometown. It doesn’t work like that here, you can’t just do whatever you want because I’m your daughter. If you dare to hit me today, I can call the police and have them arrest you again. Moreover, if it’s serious, I can charge you with intentional assault, and you can just wait to go to jail. If everyone back home finds out about your jail time, who would want to marry into our family then?"

Knowing that to catch a snake, one must strike at its vital part, she mentioned their son, basing her argument on the fact that everything her parents did was for him.

If she brought their son into the equation, they would definitely back down.

Cheng Bingbing’s father was scared into inaction, making him unable to hit her.

He was an egoistic man and couldn’t admit that he’d been controlled by his daughter, so he could only awkwardly freeze his actions.

His wife, knowing him well, quickly said, "My dear, let it be. We are here to resolve issues with Bingbing, not to start a fight."

Then she leaned into her husband’s ear and said in a low voice audible only to the two of them, "And don’t forget why we came here to look for this ungrateful girl tonight. If we injure her face, well, that’d be a disaster."
