Chapter 589: Chapter 589: Just a Bit Short_1
Bo Jingyan was worried about his mother. Burdened by his own irritability and the desire to pursue Xia Qingtian, he nonetheless answered the call.
"Mom, what happened?" He asked anxiously, "Are you feeling unwell?"
His mother was silent for a moment before responding, "Indeed, please come home immediately."
Without any objections, he suggested, "Why don’t you head to the hospital first with the housemaid. I will drive straight to the hospital to meet you."
"There’s no need for that!" his mother insisted sternly, "I need you to return to our mansion immediately. I must see you within half an hour."
Half an hour was precisely the time it would take him to get back to the mansion.
This meant that once his phone call ended, he couldn’t afford any delays to reach his mother within the designated time frame.
Judging by his mother’s tone, Bo Jingyan knew she was probably fine. She was likely just making a fuss.
Given the reminders he had received about her, and regarding the things his mother had done, he decided to appease her and bear her whims.
"Alright." He agreed.
Bo Jingyan reluctantly gave up on his intention to reach Xia Qingtian. In his heart, he reassured himself.
No big deal, he had time. There was no rush; he could pursue Qingtian after helping his mom with her illness. This way, he would truly be free from all worries.
With this in mind, he hung up the call and headed out.
He wanted to return to the banquet hall and tell Xia Qingtian that he had to leave. After searching the whole place and finding no trace of her, he understood that she was intentionally avoiding him.
Given the circumstances, Bo Jingyan decided not to waste any more time.
However, he was still a bit worried about Xia Qingtian. At that moment, he saw a friend and asked him to take care of Xia Qingtian if he happened to see her.
The friend agreed promptly.
Feeling somewhat reassured, Bo Jingyan left.
As soon as he departed, a woman emerged from a shadowy corner. Staring off in the direction he had left, her face was grim, and her champagne glass slightly trembled in hand due to anger.
The woman was none other than Shi Qian.
Today, Shi Qian came to the business gathering with Bo Jingyan due to his mother’s insistence. Her plan was to announce that the woman by Bo Jingyan’s side was her, Shi Qian, and no longer Xia Qingtian.
She was there to assert her presence.
However, to her surprise, she had lost track of Bo Jingyan as soon as they arrived at the gathering.
She searched the banquet hall for a while but found no sign of him.
When she was about to call him, Bo Jingyan came in from the outside, clutching a shopping bag in his hand.
She wanted to call out to him.
However, amidst the bustling crowd of the banquet hall, Bo Jingyan didn’t hear her. He headed straight out of the hall, towards the garden.
Without a second thought, Shi Qian followed him.
Then, she saw how tender and submissive Bo Jingyan could be in front of Xia Qingtian — an image he’d never show in front of her.
Envy brewed in her eyes, turning them red.
As she watched Bo Jingyan applying foot cream for Xia Qingtian, putting on her shoes, and almost kissing her, she couldn’t bear it anymore. She decided to call Jingyan’s mother to complain and induce her mother to telephone him away.
Shi Qian’s plan went smoothly. The mother’s call was indeed timely, just a moment later and that pair could’ve kissed.
In reality, she could have stepped out to stop him.
Bo Jingyan was, however, too difficult to approach. The last time she tampered with his phone and blocked Xia Qingtian’s calls, he flew into a rage when found out.
If it hadn’t been for Bo Jingyan’s mother protecting her, he might have been cruel enough to break her hand.
Though she kept her hands intact, Bo Jingyan despised her even more for it. No matter what she did to please him, it was all in vain.
Now, Shi Qian dared not do anything that might repulse him even further.
One more blunder, and no amount of help from Jingyan’s mother or Shen Junru, or even God Himself for that matter, would enable her to become Mrs. Bo.
Fortunately, Bo Jingyan’s mother’s call had come at the right time and successfully lured Bo Jingyan away.
With Bo Jingyan gone, Xia Qingtian would lose any opportunity to seduce him.
Shi Qian wore a sullen expression as she murmured to herself, "Xia Qingtian, I won’t let you snatch Brother Jingyan back again."
Even though Bo Jingyan had left, Shi Qian had no intention of leaving. Moreover, she wanted to see if there was an opportunity to deal with Xia Qingtian tonight.
Xia Qingtian was totally unaware of that Shi Qian was scheming behind her back. She didn’t even know Shi Qian was present at the gathering.
After separating from Bo Jingyan, fearing that he wouldn’t give up and might come looking for her, Qingtian didn’t immediately return to the banquet hall. Instead, she identified a spot to hide.
She hid there for quite a while, figuring that if Bo Jingyan was looking for her, he would have given up after searching for such a long time.
Assuming this to be the case, Xia Qingtian sneaked back into the banquet hall.
Like a thief, she looked around for a long time but couldn’t find Bo Jingyan.
Her absence struck her as odd. Could it be that Bo Jingyan had already left?
His height, appearance, and aura should have surely made him stand out like a crane among a flock of chickens in a crowd, easy to identify.
She searched again but still couldn’t find him.
Qingtian then finally verified that Bo Jingyan had indeed left.
While heaving a sigh of relief, she felt a touch of melancholy.
Xia Qingtian knew that her mood was off. Hoping to relieve her discomfort with some alcohol, she grabbed a cocktail from a passing waiter.
In one swig, she downed the entire cocktail.
Just as she was about to put down the glass and network with the gathering crowd, a hand suddenly took the empty glass from her. When their hands brushed, she tensed.
Although this was a normal interaction, Qingtian’s body instinctively responded with goosebumps.
Her body sounded an alarm, driving her to swiftly step sideways to distance herself from the disturbance. Simultaneously, her gaze fell on the man who had just taken her empty glass.
He wasn’t a stranger. It was Zhu Wei, who had caused her discomfort earlier and indirectly led to her twisted ankle.
Her previous encounter, coupled with the current incident, made her impression of Zhu Wei plummet.
Zhu Wei noticed Xia Qingtian looking at him and flashed what he thought was a suave smile. "Miss Xia, why are you drinking alone? Is something bothering you? Share it, perhaps I might be able to help."
