Chapter 565: Chapter 565: Maximizing Benefits_1

Xia Qingtian was completely ignorant of the scheming between Shi Qian and Shen Junru.

This time, the incident had really shaken her to the core.

She wanted to pull herself together, but she couldn’t succeed.

In the meantime, a director who wanted to remake a classic movie reached out to her several times, persuading her to let her actors join his project, promising that all terms were negotiable.

Xia Qingtian hesitated, and then agreed.

If this was a form of compensation from Bo Jingyan for what Shi Qian had done, then as a victim of Shi Qian’s persecution, she had no reason to refuse. She didn’t see it as charity but rather as something rightfully hers.

And if indeed it was compensation,

Then it was natural for Xia Qingtian to maximize the benefits.

The classic film the director intended to remake was a film she had watched countless times as a kid, so she knew which roles could garner an actor immense popularity

She requested these roles for her own talents.

As for their acting skills, she believed the director would train them well.

The roles Xia Qingtian requested were all crucial.

Despite not having met the three talents in person, the director surprisingly agreed without hesitation and urged Xia Qingtian to bring them to sign the contract as quickly as possible.

Xia Qingtian decided to sign the contract the next day.

Once the conversation ended and she hung up, she laughed bitterly.

"Ha..." she muttered, "Bo Jingyan’s intention to compensate on behalf of Shi Qian seems very sincere, I’m almost moved!"

...

The next day.

Xia Qingtian took her talents to sign their contracts.

The signing process went smoothly. The director offered a generous package; she wasn’t sure if it was because of Bo Jingyan’s instructions, but the pay was even higher than before, almost at par with a second-line actor’s salary.

Upholding the principle of earning money when possible, she did not question whether her talents deserved such high pay.

After all, the expenses would eventually be footed by Bo Jingyan.

Once her three talents had been settled, Xia Qingtian finally had time to relax.

But the moment she relaxed, she started to feel lethargic and couldn’t muster up much energy.

Sometimes, she didn’t even feel like going to the company and just wanted to stay at home and sleep.

Just when she had started to unwind, she suddenly received a call from Cheng Bingbing.

"Sister Qingtian..." Cheng Bingbing’s voice was trembling on the other side of the phone. "I’m scared!"

Xia Qingtian noticed Bingbing’s strange state and asked worriedly, "What happened? Did Shi Qian do something? Did she use that night’s incident to threaten you again, asking you to give up your current role?"

She couldn’t think of anything else that would scare Bingbing to this degree.

"No!" Cheng Bingbing denied.

Xia Qingtian felt that over the phone, it wouldn’t be convenient to handle any matter and decided to meet Bingbing.

"You’re at the production site, right? I’m coming there right now." As she spoke, she’d already entered the bathroom to quickly freshen up before locating Cheng Bingbing.

"I..." Cheng Bingbing, her voice trembling, said, "I’m not on site. I took a couple of days off."

Upon hearing her say this, Xia Qingtian was even more surprised.

Cheng Bingbing cherished this regained opportunity and wouldn’t miss work for anything. Even during days when she had no scenes, she wouldn’t leave early but choose to stay back and learn from the others.

And now she had actually taken a leave!

Xia Qingtian was again aware of the severity of the problem and continued to ask, "Are you at home then?"

"Yes." Cheng Bingbing replied.

"Alright, I’ll come by your house." After speaking, Xia Qingtian hung up the phone.

She quickly freshened up and made her way to Cheng Bingbing’s house.

Upon meeting her, she noticed that Cheng Bingbing’s appearance had greatly deteriorated. Her beautiful face was filled with anxiety, and her eyes displayed clear signs of sleep deprivation. It was obvious that she hadn’t slept the night before.

Xia Qingtian frowned. After closing the door, she asked, "Bingbing, what’s wrong? Didn’t you say you’ve moved on from the past?"

Cheng Bingbing anxiously gnawed at her fingertip and said, "Sister Qingtian, I’ve been nauseous and vomiting lately!"

"Didn’t I tell you to get a checkup..." Xia Qingtian paused, her eyes widened in surprise before she asked with concern, "You went for a check-up. Did they find anything serious?"

"No, I didn’t go for a check-up." Cheng Bingbing shook her head.

This confused Xia Qingtian, "Then why are you like this now?"

Cheng Bingbing avoided her question instead, and said something completely unrelated, "I haven’t had my period for two months!"

"I’m not asking you about your period, but..." Xia Qingtian’s words trailed off as she suddenly understood, "Have you been nauseous and vomiting lately, and you haven’t had your period? Could you be..."

She didn’t complete the sentence, but the implication was clear to everyone.

Cheng Bingbing nodded, looking downcast.

"I suspect the same!" she said despondently. "So, I’m really panicking right now, I’m afraid, and I have no idea what to do."

By the time she finished talking, she was visibly trembling with helplessness.

Xia Qingtian drew her close with empathy, asking, "Have you gotten it checked at the hospital yet?"

"No." Cheng Bingbing’s voice was filled with the threat of tears and fear. "I’m afraid, I’m weak. I’m scared if the results confirm my suspicions, I’ll be plunged into an unrecoverable abyss."

"I understand, I understand it all," she said, patting Cheng Bingbing’s back.

She could truly empathize with everything Cheng Bingbing was going through; after all, she had experienced the same thing in the past.

She too, was equally helpless and in agony, needing someone to confide in and seek help.

Regrettably, her luck was not on her side. She had been betrayed by her best friend, Chen Momo. Even though time had passed, the experience was still fresh in her mind.

Her soothing words only amplified Cheng Bingbing’s fear, increasing her insecurity.

Unable to control her emotions anymore, Bingbing burst into tears.

Xia Qingtian knew that she was distressed and needed to vent, so she offered her shoulder for the younger woman to cry on.

Cheng Bingbing sobbed for a long time, venting all her fears from the past days. Only after she had exhausted herself did she calm down and withdrew from Xia Qingtian’s embrace.

Xia Qingtian’s shoulder was streaked with tears.

Seeing Bingbing calm down, Xia Qingtian patted her on the shoulder and suggested, "Let’s go to the hospital for a check-up, to see if you really are pregnant."

Upon hearing the word ’hospital,’ Bingbing immediately showed signs of resistance.

She shook her head and said, "Sister Qingtian, I don’t want to go to the hospital. There will be too many people, and some might recognize me since I’m sort of a public figure now. I’m afraid of being identified."
