Chapter 498: Chapter 498 Don’t Trust Her_1

Since the woman’s image had already been sketched out, it would be far easier to find her now.

Bo Jingyan powered up his computer, uploaded the woman’s sketch to his subordinates, and ordered them to find her as quickly as possible.

Within two days, they had results.

The woman’s information and current residence had been discovered. However, to avoid startling the snake in the grass, they refrained from taking any actions against her.

Xia Qingtian quickly scanned through the information, learned the woman’s name was Lucy, and decisively suggested, "Let’s go. Since capturing her might tip off others, we’ll pay her a visit at her home instead."

"Alright." Bo Jingyan agreed with her proposal.

Soon, the two arrived at Lucy’s home.

By the time they arrived, Bo Jingyan’s subordinates had already prepared the way. Knowing their bosses were coming, they didn’t lock the doors, making it easy for them to enter Lucy’s abode.

Lucy’s living conditions were poor. Not only did she reside in a cluttered, dirty slum, but her room was also incredibly cramped and crude.

Considering the time they had encountered Lucy at the bar, her return home would likely be late.

Xia Qingtian and Bo Jingyan were mentally prepared and did not feel too impatient while waiting.

Fearing that she would fall asleep, Bo Jingyan even let her rest her head on his shoulder for a while.

However, remembering the last time she fell asleep on him and numbed his arm and leg, Xia Qingtian promptly declined despite her fatigue.

And so, they waited.

They continued waiting until the next day. Just when dawn was breaking, they finally heard a sound from outside— the turning of key in the lock. It seemed that Lucy had finally returned home.

The initially somnolent Xia Qingtian instantly became fully alert.

The room door was opened, and someone treaded in the darkness. The person didn’t seem to intend to turn on the lights. She kicked off her high heels skilfully, then walked barefoot to her bed and lay down.

She didn’t notice the two additional people in her room at all.

Worried that the lady might fall asleep and force them to wait longer for a conversation, Xia Qingtian decided to give her a hint by turning on the light immediately.

In a heartbeat, the room was brightly illuminated.

Xia Qingtian blinked a few times due to the sudden brightness, then turned her gaze towards the bed. As expected, the woman laying there was none other than Lucy, the heavily made-up woman from the bar.

Once Lucy realized there were others in her room, her first reaction was to freeze, followed by an expression of absolute terror.

Without even getting a clear look at who was in her room, she promptly knelt on the ground and started begging, "Please spare me, I’ll return the money, just give me some more time."

Xia Qingtian slightly frowned at this, "I’m not here to demand repayment."

Lucy found Xia Qingtian’s voice somewhat familiar. Looking up, she finally recognized who it was.

In an instant, Lucy eased up a bit. She sat on the ground without any dignity, her expression and tone still guarded, "How did you get into my house? What are you doing here?"

Ignoring her questions, Xia Qingtian simply said, "A few nights ago, you told me you knew my father. I’m just trying find him."

Hearing her mention Xia Guohua, a shadow of sadness crossed over Lucy’s face, but she remained silent.

Seeing this, Xia Qingtian had no choice but to ask, "What exactly is your relationship with my father? Do you know where he is now and what happened to him?"

Lucy’s gaze flickered, she replied, "I am your father’s lover."

"Impossible, you’re lying!" Xia Qingtian denied instinctively.

After her mother’s death, Xia Guohua might have undergone some personality changes. He had devoted all his energy to the Xia Family business that he and her mother had built together. For the company’s sake, he was willing to sacrifice anyone, including his own daughter.

However, she had never once doubted Xia Guohua’s love for her mother.

The reason he valued the company so highly was in part because he didn’t want the sacrifices her mother had made for it to be in vain.

There were countless young, beautiful women who had tried to court him, both sincerely and insincerely, both before and after her mother’s death. Yet, he turned a blind eye to all of them as his heart held only one woman—her mother.

How could he possibly find a girlfriend for himself after going overseas?

No matter how she considered it, the whole situation sounded highly unreasonable. Therefore, she refused to believe a word of it.

"I’m not lying. I truly am his girlfriend, and he was the one who pursued me..." Lucy remained insistent.

Xia Qingtian instinctively wanted to argue again.

Bo Jingyan clenched her hand, gave her a look, and reminded, "Calm down, don’t forget why we came looking for her and what’s our ultimate goal in coming to B Country."

At his words, Xia Qingtian sobered up a bit.

Exactly, whether this woman’s words were true or false wasn’t the point. The main purpose was to locate Xia Guohua.

With that in mind, she calmed down and asked, "Assuming what you’re saying is true, you are his girlfriend. Then do you know his current whereabouts?"

Upon hearing her question, Lucy’s eyes instantly teared up, "He’s dead!"

"What...what did you say?" Xia Qingtian widened her eyes, unable to believe what she had just heard.

"He’s dead." Lucy repeated solemnly and sorrowfully.

This time, Xia Qingtian heard it very clearly. Even though the veracity of Lucy’s words wasn’t confirmed yet, the weakness she felt in her knees was real. She stumbled, nearly falling over.

Luckily, Bo Jingyan was standing behind her. He quickly supported her by her waist, pulled her into his arms, silently giving her strength and supporting her body.

"Don’t worry so much. What she said may not be true." Bo Jingyan’s deep voice echoed softly in her ear.

Xia Qingtian forced herself to focus, "Why would he die?"

Seeing Xia Qingtian’s distraught state after hearing about Xia Guohua’s death, Lucy empathized with her a bit. In response, she said, "He was pursued by someone and fell into the sea. That night was accompanied by huge waves. He told me before he left that if he survived, he would definitely come back for me, take me back to his country, and protect me, so that no harm could ever come to me again."

"So, he must be dead now. Otherwise, he would surely have come to find me."

By the end of her statement, her voice was choked with emotion.

Xia Qingtian’s face lost more color.

Fell into the sea?

Recalling that Bo Jingyan’s assistant’s corpse had been found on the beachfront made her feel heavier. She opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but in the end, she didn’t manage to utter a single word.

Bo Jingyan clasped his fingers with hers tenderly, saying, "You needn’t worry about the rest; leave it to me."
