Chapter 488: Chapter 488: The Building Near the Water Gets the Moonlight First_1
Xia Qingtian was stumped.
Huo Qilin knew her predicament and didn’t want her to feel uncomfortable.
"If you don’t mind, I can take care of Bingbing for you while you’re away," he offered proactively, volunteering to take on the responsibility of looking after Cheng Bingbing.
Xia Qingtian didn’t respond immediately, but her expression showed she was contemplating the feasibility of his suggestion.
Huo Qilin continued to persuade her. "I have known about Bingbing’s situation for a long time, and haven’t revealed it to anyone else. That proves that I can be trusted."
"Also, because I know about Bingbing’s condition, I won’t make any missteps. I can take good care of her. You won’t find a better person for this job than me."
Xia Qingtian had to admit; he made a compelling point.
Looking at it that way, there really was no one else but Huo Qilin.
Another significant factor was that Cheng Bingbing liked Huo Qilin. If he were to look after her, her mood should surely improve.
Last time, she had tried her best to be someone worthy of him. She was determined to get back on her feet.
This time might be no different.
She never underestimated the power of love.
With these thoughts, Xia Qingtian began to speak. "Alright, I’ll leave Bingbing in your care while I’m away. You’re doing me a great favor. I’ll keep that in mind."
She resolved to find an opportunity in the future to return this favor to Huo Qilin.
Huo Qilin didn’t object.
After settling the most significant problem, Xia Qingtian chatted with Huo Qilin about his work arrangements for the time being.
Huo Qilin didn’t have any objections to her plans.
Then, Xia Qingtian held meeting after meeting.
She planned clear and detailed schedules for the company’s talents, including the newcomers who had just signed with the company.
She not only handled her work well but also put emergency plans in place.
She spent several busy days like this until she finished all her work.
Meanwhile, Bo Jingyan was about done with his part as well.
They booked plane tickets for three days later to travel abroad.
During these three days, Xia Qingtian had a lot more to do.
The first thing she needed to do was to talk to Cheng Bingbing. After all, she still hadn’t told her that she was going abroad and that Huo Qilin would be taking care of her.
Although she sensed Bingbing wouldn’t object, Qingtian wanted to respect her and discuss it with her first, seeking her consent.
Xia Qingtian brought some tonic soup to the dorms provided for actors by the company.
These days, Bingbing seldom ventured out of her room, except for taking out the trash late at night when everyone was asleep.
She hadn’t gotten any sunlight for a while, making her skin look sickly pale.
Xia Qingtian served her the soup.
Bingbing knew Qingtian meant well for her. Moreover, she worried that if she didn’t cooperate, Qingtian might tire of her and ultimately abandon her.
So she obediently took the soup and sipped it.
While watching Bingbing drink her soup, Qingtian said, "Bingbing, I have some personal matters and need to go abroad for some time. But I’m worried about you, so I’ve asked someone else to look after you."
Bingbing frowned slightly, instinctively wanting to refuse.
She didn’t want to interact with anyone but Xia Qingtian.
But Qingtian didn’t give her the chance to refuse and quickly added, "That person is Huo Qilin. He will take good care of you."
She had thought Bingbing would be delighted at hearing this news.
Unexpectedly, Bingbing’s hand trembled violently. The soup in the bowl splashed out, landing on her hand.
Xia Qingtian was shocked. She quickly snatched the bowl from Bingbing’s hand, placed it on the table, and examined Bingbing’s hand to ensure it wasn’t scalded.
Thankfully the soup had cooled down to the right temperature for drinking, and thus, wasn’t hot enough to cause any burns.
Otherwise, Bingbing’s hand would have surely blistered.
Xia Qingtian, relieved, realized for the first time how cold Bingbing’s hand was. It was alarmingly frigid, like holding a block of ice.
She asked worriedly, "What’s the matter? Why is your hand so cold?"
With the last traces of color drained from her already white face, Bingbing’s lips quivered. Choking with fear, she asked, "Does Huo Qilin know about my situation?"
Xia Qingtian, though surprised, didn’t let it show on her face.
Feigning surprise, she asked, "What makes you say so?"
She wanted to discover any potential leaks so that she could avoid repeating the same mistakes in the future.
She asked Xia Qingtian for confirmation, panicking. "How could you trust him to take care of me if he didn’t know? So, am I right? Does Huo Qilin know?"
She cared about how others saw her, especially Huo Qilin.
Because she liked him. He was the first man she had ever liked.
"No..." sensing Bingbing couldn’t handle the truth, Qingtian decided to continue with the kind lie. "I know you like him, that’s why I sought him out. I hope that his presence can help uplift your spirits again."
"Furthermore, Huo Qilin, even though he’s a man, is very considerate and kind. I have no reservations about entrusting you to his care."
"Really?" Bingbing needed assurance.
"Of course," Qingtian replied, "Are you saying you think Huo Qilin is a bad person, and that my decision to have him look after you is a mistake?"
"Of course not," Bingbing was quick to deny. "He’s a good person."
If Huo Qilin were a bad person, he wouldn’t have saved her when she was in danger, even getting himself injured in the process. Not only did he not blame her afterwards, but he also comforted her.
That’s why she liked Huo Qilin.
She had never met a man who treated her as kindly as he did.
"So, what’s the problem then?" Xia Qingtian waved her hand dismissively. "Do you still think my decision is weird?"
Bingbing replied, dismissing all her doubts, "No, it’s not weird."
Her face regained some color, and she looked healthier than before. She managed a shy smile. "Thank you, Qingtian, for everything."
"I’m giving you a chance to seize the moon nearest to the water(current Chinese idiom: take advantage of one’s position). Do seize it," Qingtian encouraged her.
Bingbing tugged at her lips, not saying a word.
In truth, she wasn’t good enough for Huo Qilin.
She knew he was from the illustrious Huo family, and even before this scandal, she felt her disgraceful background was unworthy of him.
And what about now?
Xia Qingtian did not know what she was thinking. After watching Bingbing finish the soup and reminding her a few more things, she left.
