Chapter 441: Chapter 441: Don’t Want Her to Leave_1

"Xia Qingtian, what’s wrong?" Bo Jingyan asked, furrowing his brows.

By now, Xia Qingtian had recovered. She raised her eyes and met Bo Jingyan’s gaze.

Worry filled those profound eyes.

In a daze, she felt as if Bo Jingyan had returned to the time before he lost his memory. Only then, he’d have looked at her with such unstinting, caring eyes.

She stared at Bo Jingyan, wordless, their eyes connected.

A subtle, ambiguous atmosphere flowed between them.

"Bo Jingyan, you..." Xia Qingtian unconsciously began to speak, but then...

"Brother Jingyan..." A voice full of affection interrupted.

Xia Qingtian turned her head to see Shi Qian not far away, her eyes tear-streaked, watching them.

"I’m fine. I just didn’t sleep well last night," she said, hastily.

Her senses immediately reeled back, she steadied herself, and moved away from Bo Jingyan’s hold. "Thanks for catching me earlier. I have work later on at the company, so I’ll be leaving first."

With that, she turned and left.

Bo Jingyan unconsciously didn’t want her to leave and intended to follow her.

But before he could act, he was halted.

"Brother Jingyan..." Shi Qian took his arm and said, "Don’t go."

Bo Jingyan’s steps faltered and by the time he intended to catch up to Xia Qingtian, he found she already left by car and was beyond reach.

He scowled, forcefully shaking off Shi Qian’s hand.

"Why are you here?" His eyes held a sharp inquiry and his tone was dangerous. "Have you been following me?"

Shi Qian took a step back, intimidated by his imposing demeanor, her face pale.

She dared not say that she came because she heard Bo Jingyan was going to the Civil Affairs Bureau, suspecting that he was divorcing Xia Qingtian. This made her follow him secretly.

Xia Qingtian and Bo Jingyan were already married, so they couldn’t possibly be there to get a marriage certificate. So there was only one other possibility-

Divorce!

She followed to confirm her conjecture.

"No, no, I wasn’t following you!" In the face of Bo Jingyan’s cold expression, Shi Qian denied, "Your mother felt unwell. I wanted to call you, but my phone died at the crucial moment, and I couldn’t get through."

"Then I thought, when I couldn’t find you at the company earlier, I heard you telling your assistant to send a driver to take you to the Civil Affairs Bureau. I came here hoping to find you. I didn’t expect you to still be here."

At her explanation, Bo Jingyan didn’t further question the truthfulness of her words. Instead, he asked the critical question, "What happened to her?"

Seeing he didn’t question it further, Shi Qian relaxed.

"I’m not sure." She shook her head, answering, "As soon as I heard she wasn’t feeling well, I immediately came to find you. To know the specifics, we need to go back to the old house."

"Let’s go." Bo Jingyan didn’t say more and returned to his car.

Shi Qian promptly followed.

The pair sat in the car returning to the old house.

Unable to resist, Shi Qian glanced at Bo Jingyan, who was seated next to her. He had closed his eyes for a short nap. The sunlight fell on his face, highlighting his handsome features even more. Admiration filled her eyes as she looked at him.

"Brother Jingyan..." She bit her lip, and asked unable to help herself, "Did you and Qingtian divorce?"

Bo Jingyan’s eyes flew open, a warning glint visible in their depths, "Don’t ask what you should not, and don’t pry into what you should not."

"Alright, I understand." Shi Qian appeared awkwardly silent on the surface, yet her spirits were high.

Although Bo Jingyan did not explicitly answer her question, she understood their appearance at the Civil Affairs Bureau could only mean they were getting a divorce.

Otherwise, he could have denied it directly. Since he didn’t, it must be a tacit agreement.

Realizing this, a flash of thrill passed through her heart.

However, she didn’t allow herself to get lost in this joy and remembered how she lied about Bo Jingyan’s mother falling ill to keep him from chasing after Xia Qingtian and to deny her own actions of following him.

If the matter wasn’t handled well, her lie would have been exposed.

She wanted to take out her phone and send a message to Bo Jingyan’s mother.

It was only when her hand was about to reach her phone that she remembered this wouldn’t work. She had previously said that she was at the Civil Affairs Bureau because her phone had died.

Using her phone now to message Bo Jingyan’s mother would be exposing her lie immediately, wouldn’t it?

What should she do?

Whether it was returning to the old house now or sending the message, either action would surely reveal her lie.

The difference was merely whether she’d get found out now or later.

Upon realizing this, Shi Qian’s fingers trembled slightly out of fear and anxiety.

Even Bo Jingyan noticed her uneasiness.

"Why are you shaking? Are you cold?" he asked, opening his eyes and giving her a sidelong glance.

"No..." Shi Qian tried to force a smile, but it only resulted in a rigid pull at the corner of her lip, "I’m just a bit worried about your mother."

Bo Jingyan studied her for a few seconds, then muttered noncommittally, "Really?"

"Yes." Shi Qian nodded hastily.

Bo Jingyan didn’t say another word.

Despite this, Shi Qian’s heart still fluttered with unease.

But no matter what, the distance to the old house was becoming increasingly short.

As they drew closer, Shi Qian grew more rigid, almost like a stone sculpture.

Finally, they reached the old house.

Bo Jingyan exited the car first. After walking a few steps, he noticed Shi Qian still inside the car and motioned her to get off.

"What’s taking you so long to get down?" he asked.

"I-I didn’t notice we arrived because I was lost in thought. I’ll get down now." Shi Qian managed a stiff smile as she got out of the car. Due to fear, her legs felt weak, almost unable to hold her up.

To avoid raising his suspicion, she explained, "I sat for a long time in the car and my legs feel a bit numb, but it’s better now."

Bo Jingyan nodded and they both entered the old house.

In her heart, she prayed, hoping his mother was actually unwell.

But it seemed Heaven didn’t align with her plans. As they entered the old house, they found Bo Jingyan’s mother, looking hale and hearty, watering the plants.

"Why did you both come back together?" questioned Bo Jingyan’s mother laconically as she put down the watering can.

"Shi Qian said you were unwell." Bo Jingyan stated flatly and his icy gaze bore onto to Shi Qian, "Don’t you want to explain why you lied?"

The color drained from Shi Qian’s face.

She hadn’t thought about how she would explain, all she wanted was to deter Bo Jingyan from chasing Xia Qingtian.
