Chapter 430: Chapter 430: Taking the Blame for Her_1

Bo Jingyan cast a piercing gaze at Shi Qian.

"Did you answer my call? Has my phone been with you all along?" he didn’t beat around the bush, but directly questioned her.

A flicker of avoidance passed through Shi Qian’s expression, with a hint of guilt flashing through her heart.

However, she quickly regained her composure, and responded with a puzzled look, "Brother Jingyan, what are you talking about? I don’t understand."

Bo Jingyan wasn’t about to let her off the hook or give her a chance to play dumb. He made his suspicions clear: "The day before I left on a business trip, Xia Qingtian called me. You answered it, and then my phone went missing. Dare you say that my phone is not with you?"

Upon finishing, his gaze toward Shi Qian grew colder.

Shi Qian seemed to realize something and suddenly wore a surprised look, "Oh, I remember now. I’ve been busy working lately. I wouldn’t have remembered if you hadn’t mentioned it."

"Why did you answer my call? And why did you say something to Xia Qingtian that could easily be misunderstood?" Bo Jingyan’s deep eyes were fixed on her, as if he sought to see right through her.

Under his stare, Shi Qian quickly lost ground, not daring to meet his gaze.

She looked down, not daring to look at Bo Jingyan’s eyes, yet maintained a calm tone, "I found your phone that day, and I was about to return it to you, but you were showering, so I couldn’t go in. That’s when Sister Qingtian called. I thought maybe it was something urgent, so I answered for you."

"After I answered the call, I told her truthfully that you were showering, and said if she had something urgent, she could tell me and I could relay the message, or she could call back later."

She looked remorseful as she finished speaking.

"I’m sorry, Brother Jingyan. I thought you and sister Qingtian were in a good relationship, and she’d trust in your character and wouldn’t doubt you. I didn’t expect her not to trust even you."

"If I were in Sister Qingtian’s shoes, I absolutely wouldn’t be suspicious of you, Brother Jingyan. I believe you are of good character, faithful to your marriage, faithful to your wife, and would never do something immoral like having an affair."

While explaining, she also managed to subtly criticize Xia Qingtian.

She, Shi Qian, could answer Brother Jingyan’s call, and if Xia Qingtian had any doubt, it was because she didn’t trust Jingyan and didn’t really love him.

If Bo Jingyan was a little more oblivious, he would easily be led astray by her.

And indeed, he was led by her.

But Bo Jingyan was not at all swayed, his gaze burning with intensity.

When Shi Qian finished talking, he returned to his original question and harshly asked, "Why didn’t you return my phone afterwards, and why didn’t you tell me that Xia Qingtian had called me? I remember asking you the next day if you’d seen my phone."

"This..." Shi Qian was stumped, unable to utter a word.

She shot a somewhat guilty look at Bo’s mother.

Bo Jingyan didn’t miss these small actions, and sternly said, "I’m asking you a question, why are you darting your eyes around?"

Shi Qian seemed scared, her eyes quickly welling up with tears, making her look pitiful.

But Bo Jingyan remained unmoved by her tears, still watching her expressionlessly, his eyes swirling with frigid frost, "You’d better come clean. Since you saved my mother’s life, I don’t want to use some methods against you."

"But if you don’t cooperate, don’t blame me for being tough. I, Bo Jingyan, hate it the most when people think they are playing smart tricks behind my back."

Shi Qian was genuinely frightened into tears this time.

Her tears fell as she sobbed pitifully, "Mrs. Bo..."

Bo Jingyan stared emotionlessly at her, "Tears are useless to me. They can’t be used as a weapon. You’d better give me an honest account."

"That’s enough." Mrs. Bo couldn’t stand it anymore and stepped in to shield Shi Qian.

Then, she looked at Bo Jingyan, standing between him and Shi Qian, "If you want to blame someone, blame me. This has nothing to do with Qianqian."

Bo Jingyan frowned, "What’s going on then?"

Mrs. Bo began, "At the time, Qianqian saw you were showering, so to avoid any impropriety, she gave the phone to me."

Bo Jingyan’s eyebrows tightened as he thought for a moment.

"So why didn’t she tell me the next day, when I asked her if she’d seen my phone, that the phone was with you?" he smartly pointed out a flaw in Mrs. Bo’s words.

On hearing this, Mrs. Bo’s eyes flickered, and she remained silent.

Shi Qian, standing shielded by Mrs. Bo, tightened with worry and tugged at Mrs.Bo’s clothes, her voice carrying an almost imperceptible plea, "Mrs. Bo..."

Mrs. Bo closed her eyes for a moment, then quickly made up her mind.

"It’s because I don’t like Xia Qingtian, so I did it on purpose." she answered stiffly, "That woman caused your grandfather’s death, and her relationships with other men are unclear. She’s not fit to marry into the Bo family."

"Before your amnesia, you were crazy about her and insisted on being with her. Now that you’ve lost your memory and regained your senses, I wouldn’t let you make the same mistake."

"So I hid your phone to make her misunderstand, hoping she would know better and quit willingly."

Bo Jingyan’s throat tightened. Instinctively, he wanted to say that he wouldn’t let Xia Qingtian leave the Bo family.

But in his mind, the image of Xia Qingtian, totally dejected in the hospital parking lot, saying she wished to go to the civil affairs bureau to get a divorce, inadvertently surfaced.

He swallowed back all his words rather awkwardly.

Now, whether or not to divorce seemed to be beyond his control and decision-making power.

Recalling Xia Qingtian’s look of abject resignation when she mentioned the phone, Bo Jingyan felt a surge of anger.

But given Mrs. Bo’s poor health and the fact she couldn’t endure any stimulation, he couldn’t be harsh with her either.

In the end, all he could do was suppress all this anger, and with a dark face, he extended his hand to Mrs. Bo, saying curtly, "Give me my phone!!!"

Mrs. Bo looked at his cold expression and decided not to make trouble.

She glanced at Shi Qian with a warning look in her eyes, instructed her to, "Qianqian, go to my room and fetch Jingyan’s phone."

Seeing the charged atmosphere, Shi Qian, although somewhat resentful, did not dare to play any tricks and obediently went upstairs.

A short while later, she returned with a phone that had been switched off.

"Brother Jingyan, your phone..." As she returned the phone to Bo Jingyan, she didn’t forget to show her remorse, "I’m sorry. If I hadn’t overthought it that day and had given the phone directly to you instead of Mrs. Bo, Sister Qingtian wouldn’t have misunderstood."

"If Sister Qingtian still doesn’t trust you, I can go and explain for you. If I’ve done something wrong, I will try my best to make up for it."
