Chapter 396: Chapter 396 Reluctant to Hurt Her_1
A hint of disapproval surfaced on Xia Qingtian’s face.
She set the breakfast aside on a table, stepped forward and said, "You haven’t fully recovered yet. You should rest more, put your work aside for now."
As she spoke, she reached out and tried to put down the files in Bo Jingyan’s hands.
"Don’t..."
This time, however, before her hands could even touch the files, they were clamped by a large hand.
Xia Qingtian felt a sharp pain in her wrist, as if her bones were being crushed.
Her eyebrows furrowed in response to the pain, and her face betrayed her agony. "Bo Jingyan, you’re hurting me. Let go."
Seeing her pain, Bo Jingyan instinctively released her hand.
Then, recalling the information he found, his face filled with disgust. With a bone-chilling tone, he said, "Stay away."
Xia Qingtian staggered and very nearly fell.
Fortunately, she managed to steady herself by holding onto the table.
"What’s wrong with you?" Having steadied herself, she looked at Bo Jingyan with a puzzled expression.
He used to be unable to say even a single harsh word to her, let alone push her away so coarsely.
"Serves you right, who allowed you to touch my things?" Bo Jingyan said coldly, his deep eyes filled with loathing for her.
Seeing the disgust in his eyes, Xia Qingtian was taken aback and couldn’t understand.
Disgust?
Why would Bo Jingyan be disgusted with her?
She knew that Bo Jingyan had amnesia.
But even so, the look in his eyes should be one of unfamiliarity or possibly indifference, but definitely not hatred, as if she had committed some unforgivable sin.
What on earth had happened?
Just one night. How could Bo Jingyan’s attitude toward her change so drastically?
"What’s wrong with you?" Xia Qingtian asked, sounding a bit unsure.
Bo Jingyan didn’t answer her question. Instead, he handed her a document and ordered with an indifferent face, "Sign this!"
Xia Qingtian took the document with a puzzled look. As she read it, her pupils dilated in shock.
She couldn’t believe what she was seeing.
A divorce agreement?
"You want to divorce me?" Xia Qingtian looked at him incredulously.
She never dreamt that after Bo Jingyan returned, what awaited her was not a romantic and happy wedding, but a divorce agreement.
"Yes!" Bo Jingyan replied with unshakeable determination.
His words seemed to stab into Xia Qingtian’s heart like a sharp knife, inflicting unbearable pain.
With reddened eyes, Xia Qingtian forcefully asked, "Why? Even a death-row prisoner should be informed of the crime committed before the execution, right?"
She knew something must have happened, which prompted Bo Jingyan to ask for a divorce so resolutely.
Only by understanding the truth could she solve the problem and revert this situation.
"You don’t deserve to know." Bo Jingyan replied, disgusted.
Xia Qingtian tightened her lips, attempting to suppress the pain in her heart. She gritted her teeth and said, "If you’re not going to tell me, I won’t agree to it."
"Fine..." Bo Jingyan laughed in anger, "Since you’re so keen to know the reason, I’ll give you one."
Then, he was silent for a moment before saying in a pained tone, "Grandpa died because of you!"
His mother had told him much, which he initially did not believe.
Compared to his mother, who he hadn’t seen for many years, he was more prone to trust the evidence.
The truth he wanted to uncover was not a secret, so within a few hours he had found out everything, including why Grandpa had died.
What his mother said was true. She hadn’t lied to him.
If it was not for the fact that he had discovered his grandfather loved Xia Qingtian, he would have done more than just divorce her.
He did not understand why he had not divorced Xia Qingtian before his memory was lost and instead loved her so dearly. But since he could no longer remember, it did not matter anymore.
Xia Qingtian’s eyes stung intensely. She blinked rapidly, managing to suppress the overwhelming tears.
She used to feel guilty and remorseful about Grandpa’s death. It was Bo Jingyan who told her that Grandpa was killed by Chen Momo, and it had nothing to do with her.
Bo Jingyan had told her that she too was a victim and victims were without sin.
He insisted she stop taking the blame for everything.
But now, Bo Jingyan wanted to divorce her, saying that Grandpa died because of her.
How ridiculous.
Truly ridiculous.
Xia Qingtian couldn’t help but laugh, though tears streamed down her cheeks.
She forcefully wiped away the tears on her face and looked coldly at Bo Jingyan, "Bo Jingyan, let me tell you, I’m not divorcing. Stop dreaming!"
With that, she tore the divorce agreement in her hands to shreds.
Her hands flung the shredded papers in the air. "The position of Mrs. Bo can only belong to me, Xia Qingtian."
"Xia Qingtian, do you want to die?" A glint of menace flashed in Bo Jingyan’s deep eyes.
Xia Qingtian laughed defiantly, "What? You want to kill me?"
"You think I don’t dare?" Bo Jingyan said with a steely expression.
Xia Qingtian walked step by step to his side, grabbed his hand and placed it on her own neck, "I know you dare. If you want me dead, then strangle me yourself. I won’t resist."
Having said that, she quietly looked into Bo Jingyan’s eyes.
She wanted to take a gamble.
She bet that even though Bo Jingyan had lost his memory...
The instinct to love her might still be there.
He wouldn’t want to really hurt her, let alone kill her.
"Fine, since you’re so eager to die, I will fulfill your wish!" Bo Jingyan’s voice was laced with ruthlessness. He instinctively wanted to strangle the defiant woman in front of him.
But seeing her clear and shinning eyes, he felt a surge of indescribable pain in his heart.
He found himself unable to go through with it.
Why was that so?
"Why don’t you strangle me?" Xia Qingtian saw the struggle in his eyes and felt a small wave of relief from her mental anguish.
She knew that even if Bo Jingyan had lost his memory, he still couldn’t bring himself to hurt her.
Bo Jingyan also noticed his unusual behavior.
He darkly swung Xia Qingtian away and spat out the word, "Get lost..."
Xia Qingtian stepped back a few steps and began to chuckle, "I knew it... You couldn’t do it..."
Bo Jingyan looked at her with a heavy gaze and said nothing.
Xia Qingtian’s laughter gradually died down.
Having witnessed Bo Jingyan’s deep love for her before and now seeing his cold, disgusted expression, she felt a surge of sadness, a profound sense of loss.
Knowing that Bo Jingyan didn’t want to see her now, she did not insist on staying any longer.
