Chapter 317: Chapter 317 I Will Protect You_1
For Xia Qingtian’s own good, Shen Yaxuan reluctantly informed Tian Suqin about the fact that the child in Xia Qingtian’s womb wasn’t Bo Jingyan’s.
"You’ve done well..." he nodded, "Leave the Shallow Bay project to you."
Before they could even rejoice, he added with a murderous tone.
"Whatever happened today, keep it to yourselves. If anyone else finds out, I’ll make you spit it back out tenfold, even a hundredfold."
"We dare not! We dare not!" Both people quickly promised, their faces filled with apprehension.
Shen Yaxuan waved them off and sent them away.
...
It was midnight.
With a boom, a bolt of thunder echoed through the night.
Immediately after, it started pouring heavily outside.
"Ah..." Xia Qingtian was shocked by the thunder and screamed.
Drenched in sweat, she awoke from her nightmare, panting heavily as if she had just been fished out of the water.
Remembering the day’s events, and everything in her dream, she fell into a state of self-loathing from which she couldn’t escape.
Suddenly, a bony hand filled with warmth wiped the sweat from her forehead and asked, "What’s wrong?"
Xia Qingtian looked up and found that it was Bo Jingyan.
He was sitting by her bed with a laptop on his lap. Its soft glow illuminated his gentle features in an unfathomable way.
Xia Qingtian blinked, trying to make out if the person in front of her was real or just a hallucination.
Seeing her not speaking, Bo Jingyan furrowed his brow, "Why aren’t you talking? Is there something wrong?
Xia Qingtian finally ascertained that the man before her was real.
She shook her head subconsciously, "I’m not uncomfortable."
Then, she looked at Bo Jingyan with surprise, "How did you end up here?"
"You’re Mrs. Bo, you’re still in the hospital. Is there an issue with me being here?" Bo Jingyan asked in a matter-of-fact tone.
"I, I didn’t mean it that way." Xia Qingtian licked her dry lips and hoarsely explained, "You already know that I was the one who killed grandfather. Shouldn’t you hate me to death?"
Bo Jingyan glanced at her. He stood up to pour a glass of warm water and handed it to her. "Drink some water to moisten your throat first."
Xia Qingtian complied as if she were a puppet on a string.
Once her lips were no more dry but shiny with moisture, Bo Jingyan frowned and asked, "Who said you killed grandfather?"
Xia Qingtian looked at him with confusion.
Did he have amnesia?
"The phone call you made today," she reminded him.
Bo Jingyan’s deep eyes flashed with understanding, "So you think it’s your fault that grandfather died?"
"Isn’t it?" Xia Qingtian chuckled wryly.
"Xia Qingtian, look at me..." Bo Jingyan turned on the bedside lamp. There was a compelling, authoritative edge to his tone.
Xia Qingtian did as she was told.
"Listen carefully, I’ll only say this once..."
Bo Jingyan spoke earnestly, "You and Chen Momo have been at odds for a long time. Her escape from the detainment centre, the car accident that killed grandfather, it was all her doing. This has nothing to do with you."
"You too are a victim and victims are not to blame. The reason you escaped that day was because of your luck, not your mistake. Surely you don’t believe you should have died in that car with grandfather for it to be right?"
Xia Qingtian’s gaze wavered, but she remained silent.
Bo Jingyan went on, "Unless you planned the car accident or instigated Chen Momo into doing it, you have nothing to do with it. Don’t put all the blame on yourself."
At his words, Xia Qingtian felt her eyes well up and a sourness crawl up her nose.
She held back her urge to cry, "Really? Did I really not cause grandfather’s death?"
"Yes!" Bo Jingyan firmly confirmed, "It was not you!!!"
"Even though grandfather’s passing has left me heartbroken, I genuinely feel relieved that you are still alive and well, and that Chen Momo’s plot didn’t succeed."
Xia Qingtian bit her lip.
Ever since she learnt that grandfather Bo was killed by Chen Momo, she felt as if she was being forced to stand on the edge of a cliff, facing the possibility of falling into a bottomless pit, and being shattered into a million pieces.
But Bo Jingyan’s words just now felt like a redemption for her.
Unable to contain her emotions, she threw herself into Bo Jingyan’s arms.
Feeling his strong, steady heartbeat, Xia Qingtian felt a sense of security like never before, "Jingyan, thank you. Thank you so much."
If it weren’t for Bo Jingyan’s words, she would have let herself wallow in guilt, believing herself to be the one who killed grandfather.
"Don’t thank me." Bo Jingyan’s hand circled her waist, pulling her closer. His tone was decisive, "If you remember grandfather’s kindness and want to do something for him..."
"Then don’t let grandfather worry. Find Chen Momo with me, and avenge him."
"Okay." Xia Qingtian’s emotions gradually stabilized.
Bo Jingyan let her go, checked the time and said, "There’s still time, go back to sleep for a bit. You’re still in your confinement period, you need to rest more."
Xia Qingtian didn’t miss the fatigue in his eyes, and the dark circles under them.
Compared to herself, it was clear that Bo Jingyan was the one more in need of rest.
"What about you?" Xia Qingtian obediently lay back on the hospital bed.
Bo Jingyan rubbed the bridge of his nose, "I still have some things to deal with at the company. Once they’re sorted, I’ll rest."
Xia Qingtian felt sorry for him.
She knew the abrupt passing of grandfather Bo must have caused a significant upheaval in Bo Group.
During this period, Bo Jingyan must be preoccupied with business affairs, dealing with his grandfather’s affairs, and visiting her at the hospital. He must hardly have time to rest.
"I can’t really sleep right now. Why don’t you stay and chat with me?" Xia Qingtian moved over a bit, patting the spot beside her.
Seeing this, Bo Jingyan’s expression didn’t change. He put away his laptop and lay beside her in his clothes, "What do you want to talk about?"
Xia Qingtian only wanted him to rest a bit more, she hadn’t thought about what to talk about.
Eventually, she randomly picked a topic, "Mom...she seems to really dislike me."
