Chapter 637: Chapter 616: The Revealed Identity

"These are just minor issues!"

Sienna Harrison’s father, Caleb Harrison, just laughed lightly and paused before continuing, "Madeline is a straightforward girl. She may have a bad temper, but her heart is still kind and she is not crafty. I know that the Harrison family is considered as a prominent family, but when compared to the Smith family in Andras City, we are still reaching too high!"

"So..."

"Dad, matters of love and emotion are not about who is better than whom, but who loves whom more!"

Jaysen Smith knew what Caleb Harrison was trying to say, so he interrupted him before he could finish, "I can guarantee you that as long as I live, I will not let Madeline suffer any grievances. So, please trust that I am marrying her not because she is the most valuable woman in Andras City, but because I love her!"

"That’s good. Then I can rest assured!"

Upon hearing this, Caleb Harrison subconsciously let out a sigh of relief, then paused before continuing, "I can tell that you are being sincere in your feelings towards Madeline. She has grown accustomed to relying on you now!"

He knew his daughter well, even though she was not his biological child, he watched her grow up.

"Old Master, the item you requested has been brought to you!"

During their conversation, an old butler walked directly in front of Caleb Harrison and presented a beautifully wrapped, antique gift box to him. Caleb just nodded but didn’t accept the gift, then looked at Jaysen and said, "Give the gift to our son-in-law!"

"Dad, how can I accept this?"

Although Jaysen hadn’t opened the gift, he knew that it was an antique treasure. He found it difficult to receive such a valuable gift. He was not Madeline’s biological father, but he had raised her for many years, provided her with a good environment to grow up in, and ensured she was cared for. Jaysen was already grateful, so how could he accept something so precious?

"Don’t be hasty with your rejection, I have more to say!"

Caleb Harrison signaled the butler to bring the gift to Jaysen, then looked deeply at him before continuing, "I’m aware that you’ve been investigating Madeline’s background recently, and I know that you have found out that she isn’t my biological daughter!"

Caleb’s words visibly shocked Jaysen, his eyes widened in disbelief. But the man in front of him ignored his reaction and continued, "I also know that you haven’t neglected Madeline because of this. So, I truly approve of you as my son-in-law, and I hope that you can continue to love and cherish her. Nowadays, it’s too easy and too simple to fall in love with a woman. What’s hard is loving only one woman for an entire lifetime. Jaysen, do you understand what I’m saying?"

Jaysen, being intelligent, understood the message clearly!

"Dad, I understand, and I can do that. But I want you to tell me what I need to do to prove that I am capable of this!"

Hearing this, Caleb Harrison couldn’t help but be amazed. He had heard that the young master of the Smith family, Jaysen, had been a genius since he was a child. When rumors about him and Madeline first surfaced, Caleb did not believe them and was worried. However, when the Smith family, who had been low-key all the time, personally brought tens of billions in betrothal gifts for Madeline, Caleb believed that Jaysen truly liked his wild and crazy daughter.

Now, Jaysen’s intentions were clear by his words; he was willing to be tested.

"If I tell you what to do, could you do it?!"

Actually, Caleb had no intention of testing Jaysen any further. The wedding had already taken place, and Madeline had conceived and lost their child. Jaysen had not given up on her, and Caleb didn’t want to destroy Madeline’s existing happiness. However, since Jaysen had said so, Caleb asked without expecting any specific answers!

Unexpectedly, Caleb was astonished by Jaysen’s response.

"Yes, whatever test you have, I am sure I can pass!"

If he wanted to marry Madeline, Jaysen had to be willing and able to offer a significant amount, "There are so many people in the world who say ’I love you’ every day, and I am just one of them. If I can’t meet your standards, wouldn’t I be just like those men who say, ’I love you,’ yet are unable to do anything for their loved ones?"

"What if I say, for Madeline to marry into your family, I want 15% of the shares of the Smith Group?"

Without thinking, Caleb Harrison responded directly. He was aware of what 15% meant for such a large company; it could be worth more than half of the Harrison family’s wealth. However, he said it not to expect a specific result but to observe Jaysen’s reaction when hearing this request.

Caleb wanted to know whether the Smith family was truly willing to trust and consider him and his daughter as part of their family.

Just as Caleb fixed his gaze on Jaysen’s thoughtful face, the atmosphere was interrupted by a sharp, shocked female voice from the stairs.

"Father, you’ve disappointed me so much! How could you?!"

Hearing these words, both men sitting on the sofa looked up to see a woman in a pink nightgown gripping the staircase banister. Her shocked and disappointed eyes stared at Caleb, who was in the heart of the argument, the unspoken hurt turning into tears in her eyes. She stepped down the sandalwood staircase with bare feet, no shoes worn.

"Madeline, don’t be agitated!"

Jaysen Smith suddenly got up from the sofa and quickly approached her, grabbing her by the waist in three steps. He had initially wanted to bring her back to the room to calm her down. However, considering her current emotional state and her inability to conceal her grievances, Jaysen decided to bring her directly down the stairs to stand beside Caleb.

He then instructed a servant standing nearby, "Go get Madeline’s coat and shoes!"

After finishing the order, he covered Madeline’s feet with his hands and said, "Didn’t we just talk about this before you went to sleep? Your shoes are placed on the carpet near your bed, right? Why did you come down without putting them on? And also..."

"Father, did you agree to our marriage because you have your eye on the more substantial wealth of the Smith family?"

Appearing to ignore Jaysen’s words, Madeline stared intently at her father, tears of disappointment and hurt welling in her eyes, "Father, our family isn’t short on money. Did you really have to sell your daughter?"

Since Caleb had been constantly pressuring her to go on blind dates in the past, while always mentioning the family’s interests, a simple-minded Madeline never thought too deeply about it. Hearing this now, the suppressed pain from the blind dates burst forth in the form of heartrending words.
