Chapter 372: Chapter 351: The Child is Yours!
"Then at least hold on for twenty minutes!" Fabian Nala’s blood-red eyes stared unblinkingly at the attending doctor in front of him. The words that followed were practically squeezed out from between his teeth, "At the twenty-minute mark, start removing the child!"
Hearing that, a group of doctors widened their eyes in unison, some looking at the almost sinister-looking Fabian Nala in disbelief. They had almost assumed he would choose the child—after all, Lina Miller was just a woman from the entertainment industry, while the child in her belly was the long-awaited eldest grandson of the very woman who had raised him.
Women like Lina, who made their way through the entertainment industry without status or background, and who were married only because of their pregnancy, could easily be replaced. Fabian choosing to save the adult was somewhat expected, but they didn’t expect him to be so decisive—immediately demanding that the doctors remove the child as soon as the maximum time they could prolong had passed!
Such a domineering stance, leaving no room for refusal!
It seemed that the affection between this young married couple, who had yet to hold a wedding ceremony even after their marriage, was far deeper than what the outside world believed!
They had assumed that Fabian Nala would at least glance at the conscious woman on the bed before agonizing over the decision, and ultimately—out of necessity—decide to save the adult!
Yet this turn of events took them by surprise!
"Alright, Mr. Jensen, we’ll do our best to buy time and save them."
Since things had come to this point, they had no choice but to try to buy as much time as possible, hoping that the experts and divine doctors they had contacted would arrive soon. If Mrs. Jensen or Young Master Jensen or the little girl were to die in this hospital, they estimated that their hospital would have a hard time in the future!
"Fabian!"
As soon as the doctor finished speaking, Lina’s weak voice could be heard. She was so quiet that none of the others noticed her speaking, but Fabian heard her call clearly and immediately bent down to hear her soft voice.
"I’m here, don’t worry, you’ll be fine, okay?"
His slender hand trembled as he smoothed a few disheveled strands of hair from her forehead, then leaned down to gently kiss her dry, pale lips that he had bitten open. He tenderly comforted her, "Ivy went to call Lucas Sandy, he’ll be here soon. You and the baby will be fine. Be good!"
"No, there’s no time!"
Lina shook her head, and from her pale, dry lips emerged a faint breath together with her words, Lucas Sandy must have already reached Andras City; otherwise, there would not be enough time. "Fabian, keep the child safe. Don’t worry about me. In my life, marrying you has been worth it!"
To marry you was worth it!
This sentence seemed to have hit Fabian Nala’s pressure point. When a woman says the words "worth it," it’s not just love, but...deep love!
Was she saying that she loved him?
Did she love him before? Or has she fallen in love with him?
"Lina..."
Fabian wanted to say something, but he found that his throat was so sandpaper-rough from the complexity of emotions that he could barely choke out two words, let alone a sentence. His heart was filled with a sour, astringent sensation, like he wanted to cry. The feelings welled up inside him and gathered in the corner of his eyes.
So, knowing that she might love him was such an exciting matter to him!
He had always thought that in this lifetime, his heart belonged entirely to Ivy Aretha, and that the greatest happiness of this life should be Ivy telling him that she had fallen in love with him. As for Lina, she was just a sweet, well-behaved girl he wanted to cherish, protect, and pamper in the palm of his hand!
Marrying her began with a sense of guilt and an even greater sense of responsibility as a man. In his world, treating her well was his responsibility, and as to why treating her well had become his responsibility, he didn’t know before, but it seemed now he did!
Perhaps the moment she suddenly vanished from his world, he already knew but was just unwilling to admit it so soon!
"Lina...we can have another child. Sweetheart, don’t think too much and leave this to me!"
Although he loved the child very much, and their whole family was anticipating his arrival, compared to the woman in front of him, the child’s importance had diminished.
Fabian bent down and softly comforted Lina, afraid that her intense emotions would lead to an uncontrollable situation.
"No, Fabian, you don’t understand..."
Hearing him say that there would be other children, Lina knew that he must have chosen whether or not to keep the child in her belly. Moreover, he didn’t even know that the child was his, simply assuming that she was carrying someone else’s child and had been abandoned by that man!
"Lina, I know you love the baby. Not only do you love it, but I also love it, and your mother loves it too. Our whole family loves the baby. Don’t worry, I’ll find a way to save you and the child!"
Fabian’s heart ached at the sight of her clearly struggling to speak, taking one labored breath for each word, yet stubbornly continuing to talk to him. He leaned down and immediately kissed her lips, stopping her from saying anything more.
As Lina desperately shook her head, the disheveled strands of hair on her forehead slipped down again. Fabian quickly reached over to brush them aside. When Lina’s weak voice could be heard again, it carried a firm determination.
"Fabian, I... I wanted to tell you, the child is yours!"
Lina’s gaze seemed to gather all her strength, suddenly lighting up as she stared at him, speaking word by word, "On the night Ivy and Michael got married, you got drunk and mistook me for her. That night, we..."
She was a shy woman, and even in this situation, she couldn’t articulate what they had done!
Lina’s eyes, which she had barely managed to focus, locked onto Fabian’s face, trying to discern any change in his expression, but still failing!
At the brink of life and death, some things just become less important!
Things that she dared not say or was too embarrassed to say before could now be easily spoken!
"The child was conceived that night. I’m sorry; I shouldn’t have kept it from you!"
By the end of her words, Lina’s eyes had dropped, not daring to look at him for fear of seeing disappointment or shock in his eyes!
"I know!"
Just as her eyelids fell, a low, familiar, cello-like voice sounded at her ear, as light as a feather. It shook Lina awake, her downcast eyes now looking at him again.
But as she looked up, she saw the man gazing deeply into her eyes without shock, anger, or disappointment. As their eyes met, she seemed to see a hint of a smile spreading from the corner of his eyes, like an illusion.
Suddenly, the man let out a soft laugh!
"I’ve waited so long for you to say those words!" Fabian bent down and tenderly nibbled her ear, his gentle, beseeching words piercing her heart, "Lina, you’ve finally let me wait long enough. You don’t blame me anymore, do you?"
