Chapter 318: 298. I want a divorce
"You can’t?" Julie Harrison raised her chin and looked at him with a cold smile, the icy chill penetrating her heart, "Oliver Thompson, do you really think I’m still the woman who used to follow you around and nod my head in agreement?"
Oliver Thompson was taken aback, his deep eyes fixated on her pale face, her usual gentle demeanor obscured by stubbornness and strength he couldn’t understand. Images of Julie busily going back and forth in the kitchen and living room kept flashing through Oliver’s mind.
She must have had a tough time recently; Michael Gordon had mentioned it to him. Ivy Aretha had mistakenly found her a job when she went to find a nanny. Julie was registered at the nanny agency with the name Cathy, but because she did not have the disposition or skills required for the job, and furthermore had an unsafe appearance, she stayed at the agency for a long time, with no employers willing to hire her.
Then she hid in Michael Gordon’s home, it was no wonder he couldn’t find her for so long. A woman who had been pampered by the Harrison family, fed with honey and living a luxurious life for so many years, had now fallen to become a nanny. She must have endured considerable hardship in those six months, even her temperament grew cold and her once innocent and bright personality had changed, casting a melancholic veil over her!
This melancholic air felt ominously heart-wrenching!
Oliver Thompson’s heart seemed to be tightly gripped by something, compressing it in waves. The cold, oppressive aura mysteriously softened as he asked, "Rosella, tell me, what exactly do you want before you will come back with me?"
He had already spent more than a month here, and this woman constantly tried to avoid him. When she couldn’t avoid him, she wore a cold face, busying herself wherever she could. If it hadn’t been for the appearance of Michael and his wife, today’s mahjong game wouldn’t have even taken place, let alone allowed them to be close to each other.
Thinking of how she had stuck to him for so many years, the sudden avoidance made him feel like he was losing control of the situation- it was awful!
Go back?
Upon hearing these two words, Julie Harrison laughed coldly, as if it was a pleasant joke. After a long moment, she turned to look at him and said, word by word, "I want a divorce!"
At her words, Oliver Thompson’s face, which had just softened, darkened again. His rationality was instantly enveloped by a roaring, oceanic mood, and his fists clenched inch by inch. Only when he looked at the strange yet familiar face beneath him, did he take a few deep breaths, forcing himself to calm down.
"Divorce?" Oliver Thompson slowly chewed on these two words, making them sound even colder, the icy look in his eyes making others too frightened to ask for his decision.
Julie Harrison’s entire body tensed under his familiar domineering demeanor; she knew this man too well. She was all too familiar with his every move, even the tone of his voice, all of which represented his current mood.
With such a tone from just two words, she didn’t dare say it was the right choice after hearing it just once!
But... the problems between them cannot be resolved by simply backing away from them, so...
"Yes, I want a divorce!" After taking a deep breath, Julie Harrison looked at him before announcing her decision made after much contemplation, followed by, "At this point, divorce is the best decision for us!"
"At this point?" Hearing these few words, Oliver Thompson could not help but laugh, "What is at this point with us? How come I don’t know?"
The nonchalant smile slowly seeped into Julie Harrison’s ears, making it seem like nothing had ever happened between them. She looked at him in disbelief, wondering how he could say that nothing had gone wrong after ruining the lives of her family!
"Oliver Thompson, you really have some nerve! Everything you’ve done can be wiped clean with just one sentence?"
Julie Harrison took a deep breath, trying to calm her agitated emotions: "In the past, it was me who clung to you, insisting on marrying you by using the power of the Harrison family; forcing you to give up your childhood sweetheart and leaving the two lovers separated. I admit my mistake and have paid the price. My family has been destroyed, and I’m left with nothing. But Oliver, she’s still alive! At least she’s still alive!!!"
These words, "She’s still alive," came out like an explosion from her hysterical voice, tearing through the air like a roaring steed, sharp, shocking, and desperate. The intense emotional tide overwhelmed the entire space, and Ivy Aretha could only cover her mouth with both hands to barely calm herself down.
Julie Harrison, who had always seemed so gentle and weak, had an unexpected strength in her voice. How much pain had she gone through to be this desperate? Just from a few simple words, one could surmise the love and hatred that once existed between these two people. At that moment, no words were needed, they knew where they stood with each other!
Standing at the door, Ivy Aretha’s body stiffened, her hand about to touch the door panel froze. The cold, indifferent voice of the man inside continued to carry out, each word and phrase tugging at her heartstrings.
"What do you want?" Oliver Thompson stared intently at the hysterical woman who was on the verge of insanity, a mocking smile playing on his lips. "How about having her compensate for my father-in-law’s life?"
At his words, Julie Harrison’s body stiffened instantly, and she looked shocked and disbelieving!
Did he say that he wanted his childhood sweetheart to compensate for her father’s life?
After a moment, Julie Harrison, trembling, asked, "What did you say?"
Haha!
Oliver Thompson laughed coldly, realizing that in her heart, he was an unfeeling, heartless person. So, no matter how he tried to explain, she wouldn’t listen!
"I said I’d let her pay for your father’s life!" Oliver Thompson’s eyes locked onto her pale, shocked face, annunciating each word, "So, will you come back with me?"
As he uttered the words he had always wanted to say, he realized that he had no feelings left about it. So this was what it felt like to have your hopes dashed...
"Kill her?" Julie Harrison’s expression started to dissipate, tears streaming down her face as she forced a smile, "If she’s dead, would the Harrison family be the same? Would my father come back to life?"
With her home destroyed and her family gone, vengeance was merely an outlet for her anger, and she knew that there would be a day when she would be able to seek justice. But when that moment arrived, she found herself disillusioned!
"Kill her, and then keep me by your side, tormenting me night after night, right?" It took a while for Julie Harrison to continue, "Oliver Thompson, I’ve had enough of that life. I don’t want it anymore, so either we divorce, or we keep on consuming each other until we both die in loneliness!"
