Chapter 239: 220, The origin story of Ivy Aretha
"Hmm, I hope my senior brother finds Lina soon!" Ivy Aretha said, resting her head in Michael Gordon’s arms. She spoke in a low voice with a hint of lament, "Being pregnant alone is really tough!"
The seemingly casual blessing left a deep wound on Michael Gordon. He couldn’t help but picture her with a big belly, standing in line at the hospital. Feeling a pang in his heart, he immediately replied, "It has been tough on you, my wife. It won’t happen again!"
It won’t happen again?
Ivy Aretha was stunned at first, but she quickly recalled his words about "next time" their baby is born. When she didn’t respond, the man’s deep voice became more earnest. "Next time when we have a little brother for Bianca, I will take care of you throughout the pregnancy, making sure you have a happy pregnancy!"
Uh?
A happy pregnancy?
Seeing her confused, Michael paused and then explained, "Of course, you have to get pregnant first before you can give me a chance to show you. Are you ready for it, my wife?"
As Mr. Gordon spoke in a grievance-laden tone, he thought about how he had been with Ivy for more than a month, yet they hadn’t consummated their marriage. Michael’s desire to have another child grew even stronger, especially when thinking about how Mario Jensen got his woman pregnant so easily.
"Can you think about anything decent for a change?" Ivy Aretha rolled her eyes at him speechlessly. However, she felt a strange warmth in her heart, thinking that if she were to get pregnant again, he would make a good husband and father based on his performance lately.
"Is there anything more serious than continuing the family line?" Michael Gordon shrugged and then leaned in for a kiss. "Tomorrow is the weekend - we’ll go home and finalize the wedding arrangements. Let’s see if you can find any more excuses to starve me after that!"
Ivy Aretha: "..."
Has she been starving him?
It’s actually his stupidity! Even though she didn’t allow him into her room, she never locked the door! She wouldn’t have minded if he insisted on joining her, after all, they are now a legal couple. Nonetheless, she was satisfied with his performance so far.
"What do I need to prepare for going to your house?" the thought of visiting the Gordon Mansion still made Ivy somewhat nervous, as her father-in-law’s ideal daughter-in-law was always Alya Larson.
Otherwise, Michael Gordon wouldn’t have secretly married her without his family’s approval. He didn’t recognize their marriage initially, but a lot happened between the two men, and he finally agreed, probably because everything was already done, and their child was growing up fast. The elderly must have softened their hearts!
Even Sienna Harrison, a rich girl herself, admitted that entering a wealthy family was like navigating the treacherous waters. As a woman with no background and no backup, Ivy couldn’t help but feel anxious.
Michael Gordon’s gaze landed on her delicate face, seeing through her worries with a smile. He leaned down, kissed her cheek and reassured her, "You don’t need to prepare anything - just trust me. Don’t worry, I’ve talked to my dad, he won’t give you a hard time!"
Since he was bringing her and their daughter home, Michael made sure to be well-prepared. He had made sure that Calvin Gordon accepted their mother-daughter duo and would not tolerate any grievances against them, even if it came from their own family!
"Okay." Ivy Aretha nodded her head without saying anything more. In fact, she was ready to endure some grievances as a wife in a wealthy family. It seemed impossible not to face at least some. As long as her daughter didn’t suffer, she was indifferent.
However, since Michael had said so much, she decided not to speak any further.
She still believed in his words!
Year-end was a busy time for companies, and after a while, Ivy decided to return to her office to work. However, Mr. Gordon insisted on sending her to her office door for a show of affection. But as soon as they stepped out, they ran into Anna, who was hurrying over with a document in her hand. Seeing the couple holding hands, Anna couldn’t help but feel awkward before speaking up.
"Mr. Gordon, you asked me yesterday to inform the director to take away Abby Leon’s lead role in the new play, but we can’t find a suitable A-list actress to replace her at short notice. Director Stones wants to know if we can wait until the play is finished and then ban her?"
Anna could barely speak and was already sweating. The story goes like this: Abby Leon’s assistant tried to sabotage Lina Miller for a rival but ended up hurting the CEO’s wife instead. Now, the whole company is saying that Ivy is pregnant. Ivy Aretha was furious and complained to Michael Gordon about the fickle interpersonal relationships within the entertainment company.
She couldn’t stand the idea of someone sabotaging others behind their back and wanted them to be dealt with fairly. To please Ivy, Michael declared that the company would never let such things happen again, and they would fix the company’s atmosphere. As a result, Michael took drastic action against Abby Leon, the A-list celebrity of Allure International, as a deterrent for others. Most people supported Michael in this!
However, the new play was being planned, and there was no suitable person readily available at the moment!
But the director didn’t dare to bring this up to Michael directly, knowing that he wouldn’t take back his words. So, he asked Anna for help, not primarily seeking Mr. Gordon’s leniency.
What he really wanted was for the lead actress to match Abby Leon in terms of resource allocation - someone like Lina Miller, for example!
Everyone in the company knew that Lina Miller was a good friend of the CEO’s wife. If she could join the play, it would not only bring better ratings but also be a major coup for the company.
That’s why Anna was caught in the middle!
"I’m sure that’s not what Director Stones meant!"
Michael Gordon knew exactly what Mason Stones was thinking. Now, with the end of the year approaching, holiday films were very important, and ordinary actors couldn’t handle them. Jensen Entertainment had Lina Miller, the star of "Crowned Concubine," while Allure International had Abby Leon, the star of "First Favored Queen." Although Abby Leon couldn’t compete with Lina Miller, her production cost and crew investment were far higher than Jensen’s. If Abby Leon is replaced, bringing Lina Miller over would be a guaranteed win!
Michael knew that Director Stones only wanted to exploit Lina Miller’s friendship with Ivy and asked, "Does he know that Lina has quit ’Crowned Concubine,’ and Jensen has stopped its production, so he wants me to invite her to join?"
Anna was slightly surprised but did not speak. Michael Gordon smiled and continued, "You can tell him that Lina is out of the question. I don’t have the habit of stealing other men’s wives. I can’t afford to invite Mrs. Jensen after all. If he wants his play to make money, he’ll have to figure it out himself!"
