Chapter 214: 195. Deeply Loved Scars
"Who needs to hear it from someone else? Now the entire company knows about it. The woman Mr. Gordon drove the ambulance to register with him is his fiancée, Alya Larson. You can see it clearly, she’s not here to work but to act like a supervisor, right?"
As Sophia Young spoke, she glanced at Alya, who was surrounded by a group of people attending to her, and expressed her dissatisfaction: "Look at her, acting like she’s the Queen Mother. What, did she just get into a car accident? You had it worse, being in bed for over a month, while she just had a minor injury. Is it really necessary to make such a fuss? If it was that serious and she was about to die, she should just lie in a coffin and wait for death. What’s the point of coming to the company? What a bitch!"
Ivy Aretha: "..."
Sophia’s mouth was really venomous; perhaps she had been wronged quite a bit in Ivy’s absence and just couldn’t hold back her emotions now that Ivy was back!
But she had a point!
While they were so busy over here, those people were hovering around Alya. It was indeed pretentious, or maybe it was meant to show off how popular she was?
As Ivy thought this, Alya’s gaze fell on her. Their eyes collided without warning. Feeling obliged to smile at Alya, Ivy knew she could not show much affection or appreciation for her, even though she had suffered such a severe injury last time to help with her work. Ivy owed her an apology!
Though Alya was once Michael Gordon’s fiancée and loves him, Ivy is now Mrs. Gordon. Regardless of the outcome, Ivy would always feel a natural sympathy towards her former love rival.
"Ivy, you were badly injured, so why did you come back to work so soon?" Alya gave her a faint smile, pretending to care, but her real motive was to do more than just make conversation. "I’m already fine, but Mr. Gordon still asked me to go home and rest. I just can’t stay still at home; it’s so boring. So I thought it best to come to work. Thankfully, the workload isn’t heavy and everyone helps out!"
When she mentioned "everyone," she specifically looked at the colleagues surrounding her. Then she looked at Sophia and said, "Sophia has so much to do herself, she probably can’t help you much. Just don’t overwork yourself, okay? Why don’t I have a couple of them come over and help you?"
This seemingly kind offer was actually meant to provoke and underscore Ivy’s low status in the department. The message was clear: as long as Alya, the phoenix, was there, Ivy would always be just a little sparrow!
Although Ivy and Michael Gordon had already registered their marriage, he had not announced her status to the media after such a long time. Plus, Calvin Gordon never approved of their relationship.
Thus, Alya would take the opportunity to embarrass Ivy and force Michael to spend more time consoling her. By doing so, Alya could get her own way!
Alya’s presence was not only meant to undermine their relationship but also to carry out a more important task. Michael Gordon had many admirers, but he only cared for Ivy; therefore, Alya had no choice but to target Ivy!
If one attempt didn’t work, there would always be a second!
If she couldn’t physically hurt her, she could still break her spirit!
"Work efficiency is always the top priority for capable people, not the number of heads involved," Ivy smiled politely and declined Alya’s offer. "Sophia and my efficiency are both good, so there’s no need for others to come and add to the headcount!"
The implication was clear: Ivy and Sophia were capable and relied on efficiency, even with only two people, they could accomplish more than those gathered around Alya as just a crowd!
Toxic! Toxic! Toxic!
Upon hearing Ivy’s words, Sophia gave her three thumbs up in admiration!
"With Goddess Aretha in action, that woman is reduced to dust in no time!" Sophia looked at Alya’s face, which was gradually turning pale, and her face broke into a bright smile. The anger she had been holding in for days had finally been vented through Ivy’s words!
"Ivy, I really admire you. You dared to confront the CEO’s Wife. Tell me honestly, were you and Mr. Gordon having a secret affair?"
Sophia was very curious about this matter. Although the outside world had been speculating that Michael Gordon was already registered to marry Alya Larson and there were even photos of them together, Mr. Gordon had yet to officially confirm their relationship!
Sophia couldn’t help but wonder if Michael Gordon had been forced by the Gordon family’s elders to marry Alya Larson after her car accident, and as a result, he wasn’t willing to admit she was his wife, so their relationship remained in this ambiguous state.
Sophia had always imagined the scenario where Michael Gordon was in a classic forced marriage, trapped in a family union, with his heart still belonging to someone else. And now, she had just witnessed Ivy courageously confronting the CEO’s Wife, whom even she herself didn’t dare to challenge!
Before Ivy and Michael were married, Sophia would sometimes ridicule Alya. However, ever since news of Alya’s marriage to Michael came out, Sophia had learned to keep a low profile, focusing on her work and keeping silent.
Not just because she was outnumbered, but for the high-paying job Allure International had provided, Sophia couldn’t afford to offend the CEO’s Wife, even though she didn’t like her!
Ivy felt chills down her spine from Sophia’s bizarre expression: "Daring to confront Alya proves that I have a secret affair with Mr. Gordon? What kind of logic is that? So you mean because I can’t stand his wife, then I must be having an affair with him?"
Hearing that, it sounded like Ivy was the shameless mistress!
This recognition made Ivy Aretha, who was officially on Mr. Gordon’s household register as his wife, very uncomfortable. Besides feeling uncomfortable, there was also an unpleasant, sour feeling in her heart, like her gut was tightening from having drunk a large sip of vinegar!
Huh? Jealousy?
The thought of the word ’jealousy’ scared Ivy herself!
Jealousy was something you felt for someone you loved, right?
At best, she only had a slight crush on Michael Gordon. Oh, no, it was more than that, her heart was stirred, but she was still far from love, let alone deep affection!
Seeing Ivy’s troubled expression, Sophia burst into laughter: "Which ear of yours heard me say that? What I meant was, since you dared to confront the CEO’s Wife, it proves that your position in Mr. Gordon’s heart must be higher than Alya, the nominal wife. It’s often said that a woman’s temper stems from the doting of a man, so your arrogance must be because of Mr. Gordon’s indulgence. It’s obvious that he truly loves you!"
Ivy Aretha: "..."
What kind of twisted logic was that?!
Wasn’t her arrogant temperament just natural?
How could it have anything to do with whether Michael Gordon doted on her or not?!
However, it seemed that up to now, that man had been... exclusively devoted to her!
But the mention of "nominal wife" from Sophia made Ivy feel a bit uncomfortable. Mentioning someone else as a nominal wife in front of the legitimate wife was not very tactful!
