Chapter 1059: Chapter 1039: The Sly God’s Unique Confession!
"Oh, I see!"
He didn’t even care whether she had enough money left for food after losing her bet, just like her sister said, it seemed like he really wasn’t concerned about her. "Well then... then I’m hanging up!"
"Mhm, okay!"
When she talked about hanging up, the man on the line didn’t even react before he hung up first. Staring at the disconnected man’s icon on her phone screen, Chani Gordon instantly bristled, and with a sudden motion, she threw her phone onto the sofa: "Scoundrel, scumbag!"
Having said that, her eyes red with anger, she didn’t even glance at Bella Gordon before turning and running upstairs.
"Chani Gordon, phones aren’t bought with money you can just throw away whenever you feel like it!"
In contrast to Chani’s outburst, Bella was much calmer. Before the call, Bella had been pondering whether the target of her little sister’s unyielding pursuit actually had feelings for her. But after the call, she confirmed that the guy was indeed a bit shy, as her sister had said, too embarrassed to speak directly.
Just as Bella had expected, a message notification came in right after Chani’s phone was thrown. Based on Bella’s years of experience being spoiled by men, it didn’t take guessing to know it was the dude sending over his usual living expenses for supervision.
"Rio, go drag Chani down here for me!"
What on earth was that silly girl up to now?
She kept claiming she understood her God, but in reality, she didn’t know a thing about her man. Yes, with that one call, Bella had already begun to see this young man as her sister’s guy.
"Sis..."
Obviously, Rio expressed his disinterest in getting involved with the upstairs situation involving that trickster who always caused trouble for others. These matters belonged to the young couple, and he preferred to stay out of it, but with the eldest having the final say, he reluctantly asked, "Can’t I just leave that little mischief-maker who always causes trouble alone?"
"Isn’t she your sister? Is she a little mischief-maker?"
Though the causing trouble part was accurate—this character managed to stir up more issues in a few days than she had from childhood to adulthood. "Alright, bring her down. We’re getting ready for dinner. Even if she’s a troublemaking imp, she’s still your sister!"
Rio: "..."
How did he end up with such a troublesome little sister?
He used to think Senna Leon was a handful, but now he realized she wasn’t troublesome at all, especially compared to his bothersome sister.
Ten minutes later, Chani was dragged down by Rio: "Sis, I brought down the little troublemaker for you, but I’m not dealing with anything else!"
After saying that, he turned and headed for the kitchen to help Roy Thompson. His sister had said that a man who could cook was a good man because he would know how to cherish his wife. Today, seeing his brother-in-law, a man usually so lofty and superior, actually cooking in the kitchen—and looking even more condescending in the process—sparked in Rio the desire to learn how to cook.
Not for any other reason, but simply because he wanted to be a good man!
"What’s wrong, Sis?"
After being dragged down by Rio, Chani’s eyes were still red, and she seemed too ashamed to look at Bella, feeling like a guilty thief.
"Your God sent you some pocket money!"
Bella weighed the thrown phone in her hand, "What, you don’t want the money? You still haven’t paid off your gambling debt. This time, you’re not allowed to ask your brother-in-law for money!"
Chani didn’t hear the second half of the sentence because her mind was fixated on the first part: Your God sent you some pocket money!
"How did you know?"
Chani Gordon’s first reaction was that Bella Gordon had called her god to ask for money. "You called my god for money? Sis, how could you do that? Where am I supposed to put my face?"
"Do I look like I would bother calling your god for no reason? Please, he’s your god, not mine. My god is cooking in the kitchen!"
Bella Gordon really couldn’t deal with this suddenly brainless little girl. She finally understood an old Chinese saying, "those involved cannot see as clearly as those watching," able to see through others but dazed when it came to herself, not even knowing who she was anymore. This girl was really something else. "When did you tell me your phone’s passcode, so I could call your god? Chani, are you an idiot?"
"Then how did you know my god deposited money to me?"
"Do I need to know that? He made it so clear, punishing himself by cutting his living expenses in half and leaving you in charge to supervise. How could he not deposit the money to you? How would you supervise if he didn’t? Is your little god someone who loves to joke with you every day?"
"No, no, no, no, of course not!"
When Chani heard what Bella said, her mind went blank for a moment, but her mouth instinctively refuted Bella’s words. It took her a while to react; she snatched the phone from Bella’s hand, pressed her thumb on the fingerprint scanner, unlocked the phone, and indeed there was a notification from PayPal: "You’ve received five payments." She swiped and clicked in—25,000 USD, five times...
Five times 5,000!
The name of the sender appeared: Owen Hayes!
Oh my God!
Her god had sent her so much money, 25,000 USD in total. That ought to be more than half a month’s expenses, shouldn’t it?
A full month’s worth, to be honest. Her living expenses were about 30,000 USD a month, which already put her at the top among the girls in Andras City. She had secretly done some research. Boys her age should be receiving less than girls, with most parents starting to foster their independent living skills, and reducing living expenses was a common practice.
So...
Without thinking, Chani dialed a number, and the person on the other end picked up quickly. "What, you lost again?"
Chani couldn’t help but feel a bit incredulous at these words. In his eyes, was she just a gambler? Or a gambler without insight and luck, always betting and always losing?
"Yeah, I lost again! Do you think I’m a profligate scoundrel?"
"You are a bit of a spendthrift!" The god on the other end suddenly laughed, "But if there are two people in a house and neither knows how to spend money, it would feel pretty pointless to make money in the future. So, you do need someone who knows how to splurge!"
Uh?
Two people in a house?
Is he talking about him and her?
This sentence... well, it’s too suggestive. It’s impossible not to think too much about it.
"You... you mean, in the future we’re going to have a home?" He’s not good at spending and I am, is that what it means?
"Is that not okay?"
The man didn’t answer; instead, he countered with a question, his voice deep and chuckle more evident. "I’m more interested in making money, don’t really like spending it. So, if I have the chance, I’d like to find a spendthrift woman and lead a simple life together—it’s more interesting. It’s just that..."
"Just what? What is it?"
Chani’s mood suddenly soared with excitement, having chased him for so long and finally getting a sort of confirmation from him. Although she always felt he liked her, and when she called him out on it, he never denied it, yet he never verbally expressed any signs of wanting to be with her.
