Chapter 292: Meeting a Kidnapper

(Chapter dedicated to IheartBT and Jessaca1 for the dragon.)

[Main Game Planet]

The eyes of the 25 detained robbers were bloodshot watching the refugees eat with relish. Due to their mouth being covered by fabric, they couldn’t speak or else the place will be swamped by noises about human rights.

All of them were either a landlord, a native serving under a landlord, or a resident player before they became a robber.

On the way to find a reliable territory, they lose a lot of members and the fact that there were players in the global chat who said that there were unscrupulous landowners capturing refugees players as slaves, made them discarded their original plan.

Due to new update of the game, the monsters became more powerful and the map more hazardous terrains. The white-quality weapons were no longer usable. While they also luckily encountered weaker monsters, they were not like the Lucky Koi who gets many items at every kill.

The copper quality and above weapons sold in the trade market are so expensive, same with food and water. They couldn’t afford to buy them. After they exhausted their food supplies, they gained de-buffs. With their stats reduced, they couldn’t kill monsters with efficiency.

In a last straw, they turned their eyes towards the refugees.

Coincidentally, while walking on the foot of the Main Mountain Peak, they encountered the Salted Fishes, their first targets.

The gears, weapons, and clean appearance of the Salted Fishes were very striking. In the eyes of the robbers they were walking money bags. Blinded by greed they hatched the plan and it ended up in a failed operation.

Some of them were inwardly complaining about the unfair treatment and demanded to be given the right to buy too. Having heard of the price of the good was copper coins, they were extremely envious and a pang of regret welled up in their heats at targeting these particular group.

If they hadn’t used violence and asked for help instead, they would have been like these refugees- eating right now and sipping a warm soup!

Alas, the time couldn’t turn back.

The young male student being missing was soon noticed by the middle-aged woman healer. She just finished getting the hot water she bought. After failing to find the boy among the ones seating on the ground and those still buying goods, she asked, "Where is Junjie?"

They were in the vicinity of the Deathly Hallows area and roaming far from the group was dangerous. What if harm befalls on Junjie?

"I don’t know. That boy lined up earlier. I swear Junjie went ahead to eat before me." The one who answered that was an old man who asked Cui about the matter of selling food being a prank.

"Auntie Hui, I bet Junjie had only just gone to pee. He will definitely come back." Another middle-aged man carrying a shield on his back responded seeing Auntie Hui’s worries.

The other two females in the group nodded, supporting the man’s guess.

Auntie Hiu heard the statement and thought it was plausible. She sat down and blew the steam off the noodle soup and took a sip whilst occasionally looking around waiting for Junjie to come back.

But even after they finished their meals, Junjie didn’t come back.

"Get up, we’re going back to the territory." Elga announced carrying a bulging sack on her shoulder.

Auntie Hui rubbed her hands. Oh no, Junjie still haven’t come back!

[Halfling City]

After getting her gun, the female Halfling went somewhere else, in the direction of the narrow pathway by the red riverside where small stalls were set up.

"Mister, do you know how to earn basic energy crystals?" Li Chunhua asked.

Ron suddenly found himself laughing, "Working of course, but no shop or facility would hire a kid, you could also sell items like me. Or maybe hunt for those powerful blue-skinned monsters. I heard their skin fetched a high price in the market."

Li Chunhua frowned. The only acceptable thing was selling items but that might pose a huge problem to her and working in a shop was out of options. "Are there any other ways?"

"Of course, win them from gambling houses. There are plenty of them operating across that river." Ron made the suggestion mixed with humor, never knowing he just made several business closed down out of bankruptcy later.

Li Chunhua took the suggestion seriously and searched for the bridge but found nothing except for the 6 seater to 10 seater steam boats taking passengers on board.

She tried to hitch a ride but found out they also charge boats rides. "The fare is two basic energy crystals."

Li Chunhua tried to be shameless, "Uncle, I’m a kid. How about letting me ride for free? Heavens bestow blessing on kind people...I mean halfling. You’ll be taller next year."

The boat operator’s temples throbbed. The matter of the height was a sensitive topic among Halflings. No one even those wise halfling sages could changed their fates. He waved his hand in irritation and shooed Li Chunhua away. "If you don’t have money, go back and ask your parents. Don’t wander around and disrupt someone’s business."

The boat set off leaving the penniless and pitiful kid on the docks.

The river was only fifty meters wide. Li Chunhua had no choice to cross it on her own. She made sure the hem of her robe was secured so it will not flapped in the process revealing her squatting posture.

Under the gazes of Ron, the boat operator, and the passengers, a certain someone leapt and landed gracefully to the other side.

(⊙_(⊙_⊙)_⊙)

The pipe in Ron’s hand fell into the ground bumping into the metal contraptions, "Are kiddos these days so powerful?"

Crossing the river, Li Chunhua first saw the commercial street. The houses and shops in here were not shabby but somewhat better than what she had seen from the original Li Chunhua’s memories.

She asked some bystanders of the location of the gambling houses and they gave her three location.

Two were located in the crowded middle-class district and one was inside the wealthy district near the arena.

Li Chunhua memorized the direction she was given and headed towards the first location- Downtown Bar.

But halfway, she heard the sound of rushing footsteps and screaming.

She spun her head on her left and saw the same group of halflings she saw in the docks near the entrance and they were chasing a beautiful long haired, long legged flat chested sister.

The beautiful sister spotted her.

Nikolai avoided the dagger flying at his back before catching it. He run towards the pitiful kid and took it as a hostage, pressing the blade of the dagger close to Li Chunhua’s neck. "Step back or I’ll kill this kid!"

The officers stopped and the spectators gasped looking at the kid.

"Hey, calm down. We can talk this out."

"Put down the weapon and we’ll listen to you request."

"Who lets their kid go out alone? Such irresponsible parents."

"Free the child!"

"Free her. She didn’t anything do to you."

A crowd was soon gathered and they were concerned for Li Chunhua. Every halfling child was greatly valued because Halfling had a low birth rate. Seeing one in harm’s way sparked the maternal and paternal side of these halflings.

Li Chunhua had wanted to free herself but looking at the crowd, she didn’t proceed with the idea or else her cover would be blown.

Nikolai was desperate to get out. Seeing his plan worked he tried to carry the child away but he was unable to. It was so heavy. He felt he was carrying a mountain. What is this kid eating?

His beautiful face contorted into confusion. "Step back." Eve after exerting all his strength, he couldn’t move the kid even an inch.

Nikolai: ( ̄_, ̄ ) Is this my end?

In his anxiousness, his free hand accidentally grazed on Li Chunhua’s ears hidden under the black hood. Hold on, why doesn’t she have pointy ears?

The halfling had pointy ears but this kid doesn’t. All kinds of train of thoughts entered his mind. A cunning smile bloomed in his lips and he whispered into the Li Chunhua’s ears.

"You are not a halfling are you? Cooperate with me or I’ll yanked your hood off."

Li Chunhua who was about to elbow the beautiful sister, stiffened at the threat and a few seconds later, the sound of heart-wrenching cries echoed in the plaza.

"I want my mommy. Mommy!"

The crowd’s hearts ached with pity.

Nikolai praised the kid, "Good good, I’ll give a candy later."

Li Chunhua said in her heart, ’I’ll toss you in the sea later.’ (╬▔皿▔)╯
