Chapter 242: System Updates (2)

(Chapter dedicated to Chibi_Wolf38 for the Car.)

"Morning." Siri who was carrying some fresh leaves entered the kitchen and greeted Long Haoran.

Our Mother Hen Elf had less prejudice against the man after last night. He was more lax around him and didn’t accuse him anymore of being a tofu eater.

Long Haoran momentarily glanced at the Elf. The latter was washing some golden yellow leaves on sink. Each was the size of a baby’s fist. It looks newly grown buds.

[Basic Appraisal Skill activated]

[Hoarfrost Sunny Azalea Leaves]

"I’m going to dry it for tea. The leaves may not be tangy and sweet as the fruits but the taste is still acceptable and can alleviate muscle and body pain." Siri had sensed that Chef Long was observing his movements and explained.

Tea?

When it comes to food, Long Haoran was very interested.

He stuffed the snakeberries back on the bowl, and approached Elf.

"Can I see?" Long Haoran asked, wanting to see the drying process.

"Well, there isn’t anything special. After washing it, you just need to boil the leaves for ten minutes to remove the bitter hard outer layer. Then it’s ready to be dried. A flat bamboo weaving basket would be good."

Long Haoran stared at the leaves on the Elf’s hand and engraved the instructions on his mind.

The chilies he hanged should also finish drying too.

The system notification disrupted his thoughts.

20 pages?

Long Haoran quickly opened his inventory interface.

Just like the system had stated, the pages of the inventory shrunk to 20 pages. Most of the slots were occupied by gear because only those of the same quality and same name can be stack together.

Although he gave majority of it to his brother, there were still a lot left. After a quick skimming, it looked cramped. Out of 20 pages, only 5 pages were left.

However, his astonishment didn’t stop there.

[2. All food items will have expiration date...]

He instantly noticed the additional information on the slots filled with food items.

In a world without refrigerator, Long Haoran had always liked the inventory because it preserves the freshness of the ingredients.

But now...

[Silver-back Raptor Meat (1 Pound) X 99 (Time left before spoilage: 2 days: 4 hrs: 45 minutes]

Not only this but the others too.

The importance of this event is evident, Long Haoran told the Elf.

Siri abruptly stopped, left the leaves to Long Haoran before leaving the kitchen.

The Elf met some of the Aunties on the way and each of their faces had traces of anxiousness as they also relayed the same message.

"Not to worry too much. My Master will think of plans. Can Aunties tell everyone to gather at the space near the entrance at exactly 8? We’ll tackle about the new system updates." Siri was not that anxious. Every problem has a solution.

The Elf’s attitude towards the matter brought a sense of relieve to the Aunties and they reassured Siri that they will relay his request to others.

Afterwards when the Aunties bid him goodbyes, he went to the warehouse.

Besides the meat, the vegies were affected. Master had given him some edible plants she got from the swamp a few days ago and they were not looking good.

[9 Hours: 43 minutes]

[8 Hours: 09 minutes]

[6 Hours: 12...]

Siri quickly sold 50% of the vegetables in lower prices to the residents and brought the rest to the main house lest it will rot.

Elves also have ways to prevent the harvest herbs and plants from rotting. One way was to remove the moisture and dried it but it reduces the medicinal properties and the taste of the herbs and vegetables.

The other way was to dig a cellar and burry sealed earthen jars full of pickled plants inside.

----

To confirm the matter, Li Chunhua examined the food items she got from the loot.

She took out one kind of each food item and compared the time of spoilage. Out of all, the meat had the shortest time frame before spoilage of less than 3 days, followed by bread and dairy products.

Well-packaged biscuits and canned goods were much better. They can be stored for 1 month.

Fortunately the dried and liquid condiments such as soy sauce, vinegar, oyster sauce, pepper, and so one won’t go bad for at least half a year.

Rice had an average span of 1.5 to 2.5 months and flour.

[Special Reminder: If you consumed rotten food, there is chance to incur de-buff.]

Li Chunhua went back to the Shop.

Li Chunhua followed the system’s hint.

Hiss. Is this what the system called kindness? So expensive!

However, the local tyrant Li Chunhua bought the Advance one without batting an eye after recalling the items that the Elf failed to appraise, especially the world fragment.

To level up the skill would take years. She picked up a bargain.

(Little Baozi: Thank you Glennis and Chibi_Wolf38 for the gifts.)
