Chapter 97: Ch 97: A mountain of Excuses - Part 3

Sharon could only look at the empty fridge with a horror-filled expression. Looking at that empty selection told her that she had made a mistake.

Ideally, she needed to move and get more supplies for the kitchen so that she could cook dinner. But her shock kept her rooted in place.

"Mother, what is wrong? Are you done looking for stuff? What are we going to have for dinner? Do you want me to help you out? Anabella allowed me to help her once, and I have learned how to cook now."

James asked in a curious voice as he walked into the kitchen. He looked excited at the thought of helping his mother out.

But his words felt like a jab to the omega he was trying to impress.

Hearing Anabella’s name coming out of James’s mouth was like a stab of hot iron poking her. It made Sharon grit her teeth and not want to talk to her son.

At the same time, the annoyance of her situation made her straighten her back and look at her son with a gentle but fake smile.

"It seems that we have a problem today, James. We will have to order out and eat food from there. Do you have any preferences you would like to try today?"

Sharon asked with an easy-going smile, but James did not look happy.

"Do we have to eat out today? I am tired of take-out. Can’t you just cook me something-"

"Mommy is tired because of her busy day. Do you want Mommy to be even busier and cook your food? I am sure you can do this much for me and call it a day?"

Sharon asked in a small but gentle voice. She did not want to beg her son like this, but she had no choice.

Her begging made James look guilty, and he tried to hide his disappointment in his mother’s words.

"Are you very tired? T-Then I guess we cannot do anything about it. I will give in to you and allow you to order out. I will tell Father as well."

James left quickly once he agreed, and Sharon sighed, relieved. This small conversion had taken years off her life. She shuddered to think about a future where James did not agree with her, so he decided to throw a tantrum.

Sharon would be forced to go out this late and buy groceries. It would not only take her over an hour to make his trip, but she would also be unable to cook once she got home.

Since she knew this about herself, Sharon felt glad to have such an understanding son.

But that was only one problem resolved. The bigger problem was where all those glossaries went. She was sure she had seen someone bring them up, but she had no idea where the guard put them.

Sharon had an idea but did not want to intrude on Anabella’s territory to prove her point.

Despite her initial reluctance, she decided to look inside, and she soon came across a renovated kitchen and pantry on the right side of the house.

It was well-furnished and ready for function. Tons of food lay around, awaiting sorting.

And the person who caused this mess for Sharon was sorting these cans and other materials with her back to Sharon.

Sharon did not doubt that Anabella had heard her enter this place, but the younger omega did not even turn around to face her or acknowledge her presence. She kept doing what she was doing without stopping.

Finally, once everything was sorted, Anabella looked at Sharon calmly.

"Can I help you out with anything? As you can see, I am busy sorting out my kitchen. Please, come back later with whatever request you have for me."

Anabella spoke softly, but her voice was firm, making Sharon feel unwelcome.

But there was no part of this house she was not welcomed in. Daniel had assured her of this, and Sharon knew this well. That was why she held her head high and asked Anabella her question.

"Did you steal these glossaries from me? I saw the guard bringing them up, but they went to your kitchen instead. I can only assume that you stole from my kitchen. Why would you do something like that?"

Sharon asked, almost with tears in her eyes. She wanted to make Anabella feel guilty about her actions and get these things back.

This way, she would not have to go shopping for a while.

Her intention was clear, but Anabella did not fall for her provocation.

Instead of paying attention to what Sharon was crying about, Anabella finished stocking up her stuff before she turned around with an annoyed sigh.

"I am afraid that there has been a misunderstanding, Sharon. These groceries were never intended for the main kitchen. I bought them for my benefit.

Besides, the main kitchen is under your duty, and you must keep it stocked. It is not my duty to buy stuff for it. If you are done questioning now, then please leave. As you can see, I am a little busy here."

Anabella pointed to her stuff and said she was busy sorting through it.

Her words made the older omega blush a harsh red before she looked away and left the place.

Seeing her leave made Anabella sigh in relief before returning to her work.

Would Sharon try to cause her trouble now? There was no doubt in Anabella’s mind about this. But before that time came, she had time to enjoy a little bit of her freedom. And she was going to do that, no matter what.

’Besides, I did not do anything wrong. I doubt Sharon could make a case against me that would put her in any good light.’

Anabella was sure about this much, but she also knew that her husband was a fool in love. Who knew what he would do as long as Sharon asked him?
