Chapter 83: Ch 83: What happened in the Restaurant - Part 1

Anabella kept some distance between herself and her mother-in-law. She also looked at the clock to see how long her mother-in-law had been there.

These were not gesturing a polite lady should be showing, but Anabella could not help it. She felt irritated and agitated at the thought that her mother-in-law would spend much time here when Daniel was not home.

She had been here for 4 hours but had hardly spoken to Anabella. All she had done was shoot Anabella disappointed glances while Anabella tried her best to ignore them.

"Tsk, I had hoped that Daniel would come back once he knew I was waiting for him, but I see that it was a useless thought. I shall head out now. But before I go...here, take this. It is an invitation to my birthday party.

Even if you decide not to come, send Daniel and James to it. Otherwise, we might become a laughingstock of these people."

Anabella did not want to reach out and grab that card. If possible, she tried to burn it and never saw it again. She felt that she would suffer a loss because of it.

But her mother-in-law looked determined to hand this card over to Anabella, so what choice did Anabella have but to lean forward and gracefully accept the gift her mother-in-law had given her?

"Of course, mother. I will take good care of this card and make your ’Daniel and James’ attend this party even if I cannot."

Anabella kept a smile on her face, but it disappeared from her face as soon as her mother-in-law was gone.

"That lady sure is cunning. She did not come out and say it, but she meant that I should not show my face at her party so that her son could enjoy it without much trouble. She should stop being so indirect and say these things to my face."

Anabella was a tough lady with clear boundaries. She would not get hurt if someone told her they did not like her and wanted her to stay away from them.

That was much more preferable for her than to face people who said one thing and then meant another.

She kept the invite on the dining table so everyone could see her before returning to her room.

Her mother-in-law’s visit had drained her of enthusiasm for cooking and shopping. Now, all Anabella wanted to do was lie in bed and watch TV, which she had been unable to do for the whole day.

But in the age of digital media, who uses traditional streaming services anymore? Nothing screamed it more than Anabella’s lack of something to watch.

She closed the T.V. and just waited for food to arrive.

When she sat down to eat, her eyes fell on the invite at the dining table again, but it did not affect her.

She continued to eat dinner before falling asleep. Tomorrow would be a new day, and Anabella waited for it to arrive to forget about all she had endured that day.

...

"Sharon quit pouting and eating something. You were the one who wanted to come out and eat here, right? Then you should stop sitting like that. If it is too much bother for you, would you like me to cut your food for you?"

Daniel asked as he reached for Sharon’s plate to help her out. But before he could touch that plate, Sharon pouted her food black.

"Stop it! I am not a kid who needs your help all the time. I can take care of myself just fine. Just you wait and see..."

Sharon sounded annoyed, and she looked down at her food once more. But the thought of putting this food in her mouth repulsed her enough to make her pull back.

"Mother, if you feel sick, we should return now. Your complexion looks pale and hurt."

James asked concernedly, which made Sharon feel a little better.

But that did not eliminate the feeling she felt so annoyed.

Sharon knew that she had no reason to feel like this. James had just talked to his mother for a few minutes, but she had heard Anabella’s voice in the background. Even though she knew that there was nothing for her to feel jealous about, Sharon could not stop herself from feeling frustrated.

It was annoying how her emotions refused to listen to her. But Sharon knew this jealousy was her true nature and did not want to hide it.

The fact that she could make Daniel and James fuzz over her like this also made her feel empowered, and it kept Sharon making gestures like these.

"Sharon, if you feel sick, we can head home now. I can ask them to pack this food for us, and then we can leave..."

Daniel offered, but he felt himself freeze when he smelled the pheromones in the air. Something familiar about those pheromones and those alpha pheromones made him turn his head.

He was not one to feel irritated easily, but the alpha inside Daniel demanded that he turn his head around and glare at the people who had just walked into his territory.

James showed the same reaction as him, but unlike Daniel, he seemed to know why he felt irritated and who was making him feel like this.

"Tsk, to think that I would run into them here. What bad luck. It is a good thing we don’t have Anabella here with us. I don’t like the way those alphas look at her. It makes me feel irritated to the point where I want to rip someone’s face off."

James complained, and his growl sounded territorial. He showed that he was possessive over Anabella, which startled Daniel enough to make him blink in shock.

He had never seen his son be this possessive, even over Sharon. So, to see him being like this for someone like Anabella was beyond shocking for the alpha to think about and try to digest.
