Chapter 82: Ch 82: My own space - Part 2

"Miss, we are done with the repairs. Please call us if you need anything changed. We will always be happy to serve you."

The company workers had finished installing, and their eyes were ready to bulge when they saw the cheque they had received for their work.

Anabella was a generous spender (especially when the money was not hers but her husband’s), giving them a good tip for completing the work quickly.

The company quickly left, and Anabella changed her clothes for grocery shopping. However, as soon as she opened the door, she wished she had not done so.

"Anabella, what a pleasure to meet you. Were you heading outside for something? If you do, then I should not hold you back. I will spend time with my son while you do what you are heading out for."

Her mother-in-law’s presence was the last thing Anabella expected to receive out of all the people it could have been.

The older woman always called before she made her visit, so Anabella was not expecting this surprise.

As much as she wanted to let the older woman in and then leave on her errand, she could not do that, especially since she knew her mother-in-law’s temperament.

This woman had a mouth on her and was not afraid to use it.

It did not matter if she was humiliating a foe or a friend. If this woman wanted to humiliate you, there would be no end to your suffering.

"Please, come in, ’mother.’ What would you like to have? Tea? Coffee? Or Juice?"

Anabella felt lucky that these three things and some refreshments were available in the kitchens. She quickly brought them all out as she heated the water for tea.

She might have asked her mother-in-law this customary question, but she knew the answer before gathering everything.

"Tea shall be fine. Make sure it’s not too sweet, and add some ginger. My throat had been feeling a little itchy these past few days. I might be coming down with something."

The female complained as she clutched her throat to show irritation.

Anabella only smiled at her and did not say anything. She was used to this behavior, so it did not irritate her to hear such instructions and be treated like someone who could not do their job.

It might be better for her to be considered useless. That way, no one would have expectations of her.

She brought out the tea and placed it in front of her mother-in-law. She also made sure to sweeten the tea just a little more than the older female instructed because she knew her mother-in-law liked this.

The older alpha might have said to keep sugar low in tea, but she preferred her tea to be extra sweet. And she would have complained had the tea been too bland.

"You finally learned to make acceptable tea. Good! This is the first step to being a good housewife. Now, where is that stupid son of mine? I have something to discuss with him."

Anabella froze for a second before she continued to do what she had been doing. She did not need to show that she had been affected by her mother-in-law’s words.

"Daniel has gone out for dinner, and I don’t know when he will return. Perhaps you might want to call him to ask-"

Anabella advised, and the content expression on her mother-in-law’s face turned sour as soon as she heard her words.

"Tsk, so you are useless when it comes to my son? I should have expected this. It’s no problem. I will call Daniel right now to find out where he is."

Anabella waited for her mother-in-law to make the call, and Daniel picked up on the third ring.

"Hello. Grandma, do you need a father right now? I am afraid that father is a little busy with mother-"

James spoke on the other end of the phone, and he sounded awkward when he told his grandmother what had happened.

He did not have to say much for Anabella’s mother-in-law to grasp the situation. And as soon as she did, her face went white and then red. Words got stuck in her throat as she considered how to salvage the situation in front of Anabella.

"Tsk, that useless son of mine. Now, he cannot even greet his mother when she calls him. What am I going to do with him? *Sigh*"

Anabella knew that her mother-in-law had an uncontrollable temper, but it all disappeared when it came to her son.

As her face revealed, she looked like a regular helpless person, too tired to deal with her foolish son.

"Grandmother, are you alright? Do you sound tired...or angry at me? Should I get father and-"

"No, there is no need to do that. I would rather not hear about your father. And don’t worry, the one I am angry at is not you. You did nothing wrong, James."

James likely felt sad and afraid that his grandmother was disappointed in him. Out of fear, he did not even dare cut the phone, which made Anabella feel bad for the kid.

She could hear how shaken James sounded over the phone.

"I see. I will tell Father that you called grandmother. I should cut the call now. I need to go to the bathroom."

James hesitated to cut the call, but as soon as he did, Anabella noticed her mother-in-law gripping her phone before throwing it toward the counter.

It shattered, and Anabella was sure that this action had destroyed at least a thousand dollars.

Her mother-in-law realized what she had done after she was done, but she quickly gathered herself and decided to take a deep breath and calm down.

"Looks like I let my temper get the best of me. Please, don’t mind me. I am just a little agitated these days. I think my rut is coming, and I tend to feel more irritated."

Her mother-in-law made an excuse for her.
