Chapter 51: Ch 51: Intruders are not taken lightly - Part 1
The dinner table was silent, and James watched as the older omega moved the fork around her plate but did not pick up the food to eat.
Her eyes looked distant, and she was not looking at anything as she picked at her food.
"Mother, are you not going to eat your food? Are you not hungry? You did not eat anything for lunch either."
James asked as he looked at his mother’s still full plate.
His plate was almost empty, but he could not feel the taste of his food.
At this point, James is eating his food more for survival than waiting because he likes it.
His mother made an irritated face before she schooled her features and pushed her plate away from herself.
"I am not hungry. I think I will retire in the night. I don’t feel like eating much."
Sharon spoke almost sharply before she realized the person she was talking to was her almost step-kid, and her voice softened.
But the damage had already been done, and James flinched at the harsh tone he heard coming out from his mother’s throat.
"I-I see! But still, make sure you eat something. All right, mother? Also, maybe we should ask someone to come and cook for us here? Maybe eating take-out is affecting your mood-"
"No, I am fine. I can eat this food just fine. I am...just in the mood of eating my food."
Sharon spoke as she pushed her plate away.
James felt sorry for his mother but did not know how to help her.
He knew this was happening because his mother missed her father. She wanted to eat lunch and dinner with him, but that was impossible due to the charity event.
’Not having father here is causing mother to feel like this. But does she need to miss her father so much? Can’t she be happy to have me by her side? Or is this because of something else I am unaware of?’
James bit his lip as he considered another possibility that could make his mother feel like this, but that did not make sense.
His mother looked jealous of his father’s time spent with Anabella. But even James knew this was only a formality his father needed to adhere to. Otherwise, he could get into trouble with the media.
The kid understood this but could not understand why his mother looked at him like her world was ending.
’Should I say something to mother about this? Maybe I can suggest that we head out and have some mother-son bonding time-’
Before James could open his mouth, his mother stood up and decided to walk away.
"I am sorry, but I can’t eat anymore. I will head back to my room now. James, please don’t come to me today and entertain yourself somehow. I need to be alone for now."
His mother said that to him before she disappeared into her room.
James felt left alone and bitter.
Sharon had never acted like this to him before, and it made him feel bitter to see her being like this.
But what else could be done but sigh and behave himself? His mother was going through a rough patch, but surely, she would be fine in a few hours.
Little did the six-year-old realize that this was just the start of this nightmarish situation for him.
His mother’s mood was not any better during the next few hours.
She came down for snacks, but it was take-out again. James was tired of all the take-outs and tried to tell her this, but he also felt afraid when he looked at her face.
Her mother’s expression finally became bright once his father came home.
James decided to give them some time, but it was wrong because the next thing he knew, his father and mother were having a huge fight over something he could not understand.
It made James want to hide, and that was what he did...until he was found half an hour later by an unknown beta.
"Who are you, and what are you doing here?"
James asked the beta as he held back his growl. He did not think this beta was dangerous to him or the house, but you could never know for certain.
The beta looked startled and blinked in shock at being yelled at by a kid. But she quickly gathered herself and decided to answer the question.
"I am the cleaning lady assigned to this house. Lady Anabella asked me to clean this place since it was getting dirty. Now, please allow me to cross that cupboard; I will be on my task."
The cleaning lady spoke, and James reluctantly allowed the cleaning lady to continue cleaning up and airing the place out.
He did not like strangers in his house, but he could tolerate one called Anabella. This place needed a clean-up since it was getting dirty.
Around this time, Sharon came down to check what was happening, and the omega froze as soon as she noticed the beta in her territory.
As she looked at the beta intruder, a growl built up in the omega’s throat.
"Miss, do you need anything deep-cleaned? I can-"
The beta started to ask, but the omega lost her shit before anything could register in her mind.
Before the beta knew it, a hand in her hair pulled her head up and made her look at Sharon with annoyed eyes.
"How dare you touch this place as if you own it? I never allowed you entry, so you have no right to be here. Just leave and never come back here."
Sharon yelled a little too loudly to seem calm. The beta cringed in fear as she tried to hold still.
It was obvious to her that this omega was important, and she needed to let her do whatever she wanted to calm her down.
But the beta also hoped someone would soon save her from this mess. And then, she would never agree to take on such a messy task again.
