Chapter 48: Ch 48: Small Gestures - Part 3

’Please don’t look at me and spot me. Ugh, what a useless thing to even hope for. How can anyone miss a human my size when they are specifically looking for me.’

Anabella noticed how Daniel looked around once in a while, talking to the alpha couple before him.

Daniel was trying to make it less obvious that he was waiting for someone, but his eyes gave him away.

They narrowed as soon as they noticed her, and relief filled them.

And then, he called out to her in a voice that had sugar melted in it. It sounded fake to her ears, but she felt that others would not find it off for an alpha to address his wife in such a manner.

"My dear, you are finally back. You should have taken me with you when you went to the bathroom. Anyway, now that you are here, let me introduce you to these people. They are a couple that are very dear to my heart."

Anabella did not like the sound of it, but she hated the curious look even more.

Her smile came naturally, and before Anabella knew it, she looked at the pair in front of her with the most charming smile.

"I see! Since you adore these people, they must be someone you respect. In that case, I should also pay my respect to them."

Anabella hated how her reply came out as trained. She spoke, and her mouth moved, but no sound came out. Her words even felt a little hollow when she spoke.

This was all in her head. Her voice must have sounded charming because Daniel gave her a look of acknowledgment.

Recognition sparked across the eyes of the alpha pair Anabella was addressing, and she felt her throat dry.

Her reaction caused Daniel to look concerned, but he did not want to ask her what happened and attract unwanted attention.

Before he could ask Anabella questions, the female alpha made a delighted noise.

"You are Anabella, right? I knew I had seen you before. My son was worried about how he would lose all contact with you once the school year ended. So, you got married? What a relief it is to see you again."

The female alpha likely meant well, but the way Daniel stiffened behind her back alerted Anabella.

His husband’s eyes asked Anabella many questions, but she could not answer them.

"I-I see. Your son is a good friend of mine, and I recently assembled him on his new relationship. He seems to have your partner preferences."

Anabella saw, so she had no idea why the alpha pair looked so amused. Their knowing look made her feel smaller and transparent.

"Oh, that sure is the case. Anyway, make sure you visit us soon. My son would be delighted to have you visit us soon."

With that said, the alpha pair finally left. But Anabella could tell that her problems were just starting at that point.

"Can you wait until we get home to ask me any questions? I do not want to get questioned here."

Anabella told her husband, but she could tell he was not listening. His eyes looked angry and full of questions.

Daniel seemed to know this charity hosting site well because he dragged Anabella through the hallways until they were alone in the room.

Once the alpha confirmed they were alone, he let Anabella go and turned her around so she would face him.

"Now, tell me how you know those couples. Do you know who those people are and how influential they are? They can make or break a country if they want to. How can you not be aware...or how can you not tell me about them?"

It almost looked as if Daniel had lost his mind when he tried to grab Anabella’s arm to make her face him.

It hurt when she was grabbed. Her arm throbbed where it had been caught, and it also turned red as a result of her husband’s abuse.

"They’re my friend’s parents. I had no idea how influential they were. Do you think my mother would not have tried to use them if I had known about them beforehand? Let go of me now."

Anabella reasoned with her husband first and asked him to let go of her second. She knew this would give her a better chance of convincing him she knew nothing.

Daniel still looked frustrated, partly due to the alpha scent sticking to Anabella’s scarf. He had just noticed that she had one now when she did not have one before she left home.

Asking about that scarf would be his next move when Daniel felt himself pause for a minute.

’Why do I feel so concerned about Anabella? I should not want to ask her anything unrelated to it.’

Daniel knew that, but he still felt irrational fear and irritation grab hold of him. It made him feel like he was losing all control over his life.

Was it an irrational thought he was having? Perhaps, yes. But it did not solve the problem he was facing.

"Look, if you truly want me to help you create a connection between you and my friend’s parents, then I will see what I can do. But I will make no promises."

Anabella felt bad for her husband (mostly for herself), so she decided to throw him a bone to help him out.

She had no hope for her husband, but she felt relieved to see that her husband was no longer showing agitation toward her.

Anabella would say she did not fear her husband if anyone asked her. That was the truth, but sometimes, it made her wonder if it was true.

Because of her bravery and saying that she did not fear her husband, her body surely reacted to him when he took such sudden actions.

She cringed in anticipation, and her heart skipped a few beats because of her fear of him.
