Chapter 43: Ch 43: Calm interactions - Part 3

"-Ugh, who does she think she is? I am so mad and disappointed. I spent a long time making those sandwiches, only for Anabella to throw them in my face without tasting them. I feel disappointed."

James looked at his mother’s crying face, and he felt a stab of sympathy.

His mother had woken up early (as far as he knew) to make the PB&J sandwiches for breakfast, and they were delicious.

But did making those sandwiches take so long for her to complain about all that? As far as James remembered, his previous nanny used to make them within 5 minutes.

Moreover, weren’t all the ingredients already pre-made?

Even though James felt confused, he decided to keep quiet. His mother looked agitated, and he did not want to make her angry.

"Sharon, calm down, or you will ruin your appetite. You do not need to pay attention to Anabella or anything she does. You know that you are the most important person to me, right? I will always take your side.

If you want me to scold Anabella, I will do that."

Daniel agreed with his lover and looked angry at Anabella as well. Sharon smiled at Daniel, seeing his expression and hearing his promise.

"Mother, you made PB&J for breakfast, right? But Anabella is allergic to peanuts. I don’t think she could eat what you brought for her."

James pointed out before his mother could get any more upset. He wanted to make her feel better, but he did the opposite of what he wanted.

Sharon froze, and her face went red before she stuttered to get her reaction back under control.

But the damage had already been done, and her son had rendered Sharon speechless.

"I...did not know that. Daniel, why did you not tell me something this important? I kept complaining about this...does this mean I am at fault for not being mad at someone because of their allergies?"

Sharon asked in an almost horrified voice.

Seeing her panic made Daniel feel bad, but he quickly assured her this was not her fault.

"No way! You did nothing wrong, Sharon. If you want to blame someone, then blame me. I was the one who did not tell you anything about it. So please, blame me if you have to. Do not blame yourself."

Daniel quickly assured his lover that none of this was her fault, but Sharon still made a worried face.

The dinner was ruined, so Daniel pulled out his last hidden card.

"Sharon, to show how sorry I am for what happened, let me make it up to you. We can spend this day and the next outside. It will give Anabella enough time to calm down as well."

Initially, Daniel proposed that they stay out for the whole week. But he had work to do, and James also had school.

That was not a feasible option.

Plus, he had charity events to appear in with Anabella. They were critical of his image, and his company had much on the line because of those events.

’I might hate this marriage, but I cannot say I did not benefit from it. But still, I would rather not have tied this bond if I could help it.’

Sharon sighed and looked relieved to hear Daniel talk about staying out.

"We should stay out for a few days. James can relax and have some mother-son bonding time with me. James, is there anything you want to do? You can tell me."

Sharon commented because she felt she was becoming distant from the young alpha.

She had spent all her time with Daniel, so James had been left alone. That left Anabella the chance to approach him and become close to him.

This was evident when James spoke up to defend Anabella when she complained about her.

He never used to do this before, which worried Sharon about her position in her son’s life.

"Really! Do you want to play with me and spend time with me? Then, will you accompany me to a place I want to go to? I have a feeling that you will enjoy it."

James promised, and the older omega just smiled at him indulgingly.

She felt she would not enjoy any of her time, but she was willing to try and make it seem like she was enjoying her life when she was with James.

Seeing this display filled Daniel with a joy he had not felt before. He felt calm and content to see his wife and son enjoying life together.

’I hope we can be a family on papers as well soon. I should start preparing for my divorce. It is still far away, but it won’t hurt to be prepared in advance.’

Knowing his mother, she would ruthlessly persuade Daniel to follow her will. To ensure he did not have to do that, Daniel would need to make many adjustments to his plans and back her into a corner.

He would get his hands dirty for his lover if he had to, and he was unafraid of anything.

His lover and son enjoyed the rest of the day alone, and he chose not to follow them. That way, they would have a tie to bond with each other.

But as soon as they returned home, he could feel the awkwardness in the air, which made him feel as if he should have accompanied them.

James went to his assigned room in the hotel and locked himself up there while Sharon tried to talk to him but failed.

Daniel wanted to interfere, but Sharon asked him not to. This was a matter between her and her son.

By the time they returned home, it was late, and the tension had not lessened. That was why he felt angry as soon as he saw Anabella.

But he felt just as guilty when his eyes fell on all the bruises the younger omega had. He had wronged her more than he thought he did.
