Chapter 33: Ch 33: A friendly meet - Part 1

’What should I wear? I feel like I have nothing to wear in front of my friends. I don’t want to overdress...’

Anabella looked at her overflowing closet with a sigh.

Despite having a ton of clothes, most of these were either formal wear or so uncomfortable that she could only sit stiffly on them.

Her closet was filled with clothes her sister-in-law and mother had purchased, which cost over 1000 dollars each.

According to the pair who bought Anabella this, it was worth spending, but Anabella did not feel the same way.

’If only I could go against them both and decide what I want to do, I could wear what I want.’

But thinking about this stuff was different from acting on it. Thus, Anabella closed her wardrobe and decided to pull out her secret duffle bag, which she had kept for such occasions.

She removed a comfy sweater that smelled like nothing and changed into a comfortable top and baggy jeans. Her eyes were hidden behind a pair of huge sunglasses, and her hair was messy.

No one would look her way today and think of her as anything more than a hurrying local.

Anabella was the one person in their family who was not famous and had little PR. Even with her recent news of fainting, she was about to avoid having her face splashed everywhere.

So, unlike her family, the locals had no idea who she was, and they treated Anabella like a normal person because of this.

Even getting nagged at by strangers for her ’strange’ behavior could sometimes be fun. And riding a public bus had its own merits.

Anabella got off on her own and entered a cafe to get something to drink first.

Clair had messaged her to meet at the arcade. Anabella used to go with the alpha pair during school.

It had only been a year since she had last been there with another adult (and a few days since she had gone with James), but Anabella felt that today would be fun.

"Excuse me, what would you like to order?"

The barista asked in a tired voice. He looked overworked and overwhelmed, dealing with rude customers the whole time, and Anabella quickly ordered her coffee.

She was specific about her coffee not having peanut ingredients, but she felt worried because the barista looked half-asleep.

Anabella was unsure if the barista’s lack of sleep or some communication error caused this. Still, the barista headed toward the coffee machine and poured Anabella a peanut coffee.

"Here you go."

The barista returned the cup of coffee to Anabella, and the Omega could only stare at it with an uncomfortable expression.

’Alright, what do I do now? Should I ask the barista to remake it...’

One look at the barista’s face made] Anabella reconsider her thoughts. The poor beta worker looked like she would kneel over any time.

Moreover, the line behind Anabella wouldn’t be happy if she made them wait any longer.

’I guess some lucky person outside would get this coffee. I cannot drink it anymore.’

Anabella smiled and paid for the coffee. She quickly left the line, and many people standing with her looked at her in confusion and admiration.

Their gazes made Anabella feel uncomfortable, and she almost sipped her coffee out of fear when she felt someone grabbing her coffee and pulling it out of her grasp.

"Hey, what are you..."

Anabella spoke with a gasp before she realized that it was just Noah who had taken her coffee.

He drank one sip before making a face at her that said that she was a fool.

"Ugh, this tastes like a peanut butter blend. Aren’t you allergic to it? Why would you even buy such a thing? Aren’t you allergic? Did the barista make a mistake? Should I go and talk to him about it?"

Noah looked worried at first, but then his worry turned into anger as soon as he realized what happened.

Anabella had to hold him back quickly before he could go and make a scene.

"No, it’s fine! I know this mistake happened, and I decided not to act. The barista looks like she is about to die, and I don’t mind paying extra.... would you like to finish this for me?"

Changing topics looked like a hard task, but it was not impossible.

Noah’s face looked like he did not want to let it go, but he decided not to speak up if Anabella was not speaking up.

After all, she had been in danger, so she had to do whatever she wanted with this situation.

"I will let this go...for now. But you need to start being meaner to people, or they will keep walking all over you."

Noah’s annoyance showed clearly on his face as he spoke to Anabella. But since he was not angry at her, Anabella did not feel scared of him.

"Sometimes, it’s good to show kindness to those struggling. A random act of kindness can be a lot for some people.... we are derailing from the topic now. We should head out, or we might make Clair wait longer than she should."

At first, Anabella spoke from experience, but the air turned weird. Before it could become more bizarre, she decided to change the topic and walk out.

Noah followed her, but not before he looked back at the barista with a harsh glare.

The tired worker suddenly looked up, her body shivering, and felt her life flashing before her eyes.

Her gaze met the angry one of the dominant alpha walking outside, and she watched as he crushed the still-hot cup of peanut butter coffee in his hands.

Coffee drenched the alpha’s hand, but the barista was too busy to catch her breath and notice this.

Sweat drenched her brows as she tried to speak up. But no word escaped her mouth even as she tried to speak.

That was the last time she saw that alpha, but the terror of that day marked the barista’s life forever.
