Chapter 32: Ch 32: The new caretaker? - Part 3
Anabella seemed in a bad mood, and James had half a mind to head out and not return.
Despite his initially forbidding feeling, he decided to brave it and ask Anabella if she was alright.
"Excuse me, but I wanted to know if you were fine with what happened and Mother being in your personal space. If you are not fine, then you can tell me. I can ask Father to appoint someone else as our caretaker-"
"James, it’s fine! I don’t care one way or another. As long as Miss Clay does not stink up my section with her pheromones, we won’t have much of a problem."
Anabella lived like a person barely seen around the house. She had fixed intervals when she liked going out for water and food. Her mother also called her out often enough to leave Anabella no time to run into the caretaker.
Whether or not his husband’s mistress was here did not matter to Anabella, especially since she knew that her input would be invalidated anyway.
"You don’t have to endure anything! I can-"
"Keep your head out of this situation. James, if you want to help me, that would be the best way. Your father is ill with a disease known as ’lovesickness,’ and he is not his rational self at the moment.
So, it would be best if you stay on his good side and not try to help me."
Anabella knew her husband’s temper well and she instantly knew that Daniel would not be happy with her or James.
No matter how right James was or how much sense he made, as long as it looked like he was on Anabella’s side, Daniel would not allow James to do what he wanted.
He might ban James from interacting with Anabella forever.... which would not be bad when you consider everything. But it was not something Anabella wanted to have the kid experience.
"Don’t say things like that. My father is just...grieving and loves his mother a lot. You don’t get it because you are not a part of their relationship. As long as they are happy, does it matter what their relationship is like?"
James asked before he quickly closed his mouth. He had not meant to blurt out all this, especially in front of the one person who was affected.
"I’m sorry, I did not mean to-"
The kid tried apologizing, but Anabella had to give it to him. He was at least trying to make things work out.
Unfortunately, things were too far gone for them to be fine.
"You are right. Your father does love your mother a lot. So, I would appreciate it if he were to give me a divorce and let me go-"
*Grrrr*
That reaction was instant, and James did not seem to realize what had happened before he reached out to grab Anabella’s shoulder and push her back.
"You do not get to decide that, and you will not get to leave. You are a part of our pack and will remain like that forever."
James’s grip was tight, and it hurt Anabella’s arm.
She knew the kid was strong but did not realize just how strong James was. At this rate, his grip would leave bruises behind.
Anabella tried to control her agitated scent, but her pheromones had always been agitated, and they did not listen. Before she knew it, she was gripping her arm and working through the pain she felt in there.
Her agitated pheromones knocked James out of his anger-filled daze, and the six-year-old looked terrified of what he had done.
"I-I am sorry! I did not mean to-"
James tried to explain guiltily. He was losing control too much these days, and it was all because of Anabella.
At this point, all the kid could do was apologize.
"Hmm, it’s fine! There is no need for you to be apologizing to me like this. But I do think I should step out of the house today. Stay in here is too suffocating."
Anabella made his decision quickly.
She felt she would see more of Sharon and James if she stayed in the house. And as much as she said she did not care about this, a small part of her felt irritated with what was happening.
’Ah, I just need to get out and get some fresh air.’
Just as Anabella decided this, her phone rang, and she looked at the familiar name on the screen.
James noticed Clair’s name and felt suppressed grow to escape his throat.
"Are you going to pick that call-up? Don’t! I have a bad feeling about this. Do not head out to meet those people; keep your distance from them. They are not good for you."
James warned Anabella with a frown. He looked dissatisfied with her choice and always stood up against her.
Despite being a kid, he showed his preferences and controlled Anabella’s life.
It was not as cure as people made it out to be, and James was not even her kid in the first place.
Despite this, Anabella showed incredible control over her instincts.
"James, Clair, and Noah are my friends I have not seen for a long time. I cannot stop seeing them when they have done nothing wrong. And also, it would be good for you if I had out.
This way, you will be able to spend time with your mother without any interruption. Don’t you want to do that?"
Anabella asked, and James felt himself pause.
He did want to spend time alone with his mother. But a bigger part of him felt uncomfortable letting Anabella leave than wanting to spend time alone with Sharon.
’I should not be feeling like this. Ugh, this is all too irritating. Maybe spending time with my mother will make me feel much more like myself, and these irritating feelings will disappear.’
Somehow, this did not feel like a solution, but this was the best James could come up with.
