Chapter 25: Ch 25: Unwanted Visitors - Part 2
"Anabella, my dear daughter, mind telling me what you thought when you decided to act like this? I don’t think I ever taught you to cause trouble for your family. Do you know how I felt when this news appeared on TV? I thought my heart would stop, and I would break down."
The older omega was acting weirder than Anabella expected her to.
It was concerning when no insults or threats were hurled at Anabella at the first chance.
Anabella was sure her mother acted like a concerned parent because someone was around. And her instincts proved to be right as soon as she looked outside the door.
A few doctors were monitoring this hallway, and they quickly looked inside when they heard the older omega speak.
’Now it makes sense why Mother is like this. I can see the expectations in her eyes. She wants me to comply with her act.’
And Anabella did comply with her. More like she had no choice with the way her mother’s scent was smothering her.
It warned her not to speak out of turn, making Anabella smile blankly.
One of the doctors decided to look inside their rooms and looked concerned when he asked the pair if everything was alright.
"We are fine. I was just talking to my daughter about something personal. Would it be alright if we close this room’s door?"
Anabella had to admit that her stepmother had charm. She was an omega who could enchant even a beta, which showed how she dealt with the doctor.
The beta blushed and smiled at her mother before he quickly agreed with her demand.
"Of course, it is okay for you to close the door. Please call us quickly if you need anything. We will always be available for you."
The doctor quickly left, and her mother wasted no time closing the door.
As soon as that happened, the alpha’s smile faded, and she looked at Anabella with a scary expression.
"Now, shall we have a ’real’ talk now?"
The omega was smiling, but Anabella could feel her real emotions.
’Is there nothing I can do about it? I feel like I am suffocating sitting in front of my mother.’
Even though this was how Anabella felt, she smiled and gestured for her mother to sit. She was ready for this ’talk’ her mother was about to have.
"Now, explain how you got sick and ended up in bed. I do not want you to leave out a single detail about what happened."
Since her mother asked, Annabella told her everything but the names and identities of the alphas who put James on edge.
The more her mother heard her speak, the more intrigued she got until she had a problematic light in her eyes that made Anabella nervous.
"You need to use this opportunity. Make James take responsibility for you and entrap him like that. I am sure you can make it happen."
The older omega gave Anabella ’tips’ on how to proceed.
Anabella sighed at the same speech she had heard a million times before. But this time, her mother would not let her attitude lie.
The older female grabbed Anabella’s arm and pulled it away tightly.
"Don’t sigh like that! You do not understand how big of an opportunity you are missing by refusing to cooperate with me here.
Do you think you will get another chance to make Daniel look at you like you are worth something? No! The only reason he or anyone will look at you now would be if you got pregnant. Omegas are only worth it if they have kids..."
The tension in the room was rising, and Anabella was finding it hard to breathe properly.
She gripped her neck to get more oxygen in, but her body refused to cooperate.
Just when she was sure she would faint, someone knocked at the door, and familiar alpha pheromones washed over her.
Finally, Clair was here to help Anabella out.
*knock*
"What the...I asked the doctor to leave this room alone. Just wait here, Anabella. This talk is not over yet. I will deal with the person at the door and then return."
Her mother promised before quickly approaching the door and pulling it open.
"I am sorry, but I don’t want company..."
The older omega fell quiet when she noticed Clair standing on the other side of the door.
Clair had a tight expression, and her lips were furrowed together in displeasure. She looked annoyed to see the older omega, but her expression softened as soon as her eyes fell on Anabella.
She tried not to read too much into that look, but a huge part of her wondered if this was what she had been missing her whole life.
This security and trust kept her going; she wanted to reach out and bask in them.
"Miss, you need to leave now. I don’t care what makes you feel so agitated, but too many people are complaining about your loud noises and foul pheromones. Please, leave now."
Clair was clear about her demand, and Anabella saw her mother’s face go red.
"I...this is...I need to leave."
The older omega left quickly, and her brain is not working properly. That was why she forgot all hospital warnings were sound-proof and pheromone locked.
It was protocol to have things like this.
Clair entered the room, and as soon as the older lady was gone, she gave Anabella a concerned look.
"Are you alright? I am well aware that your stepmother made you uncomfortable, but I did not interfere until now because you did not want me to. But even I feel uncomfortable letting you hear all this.
You need to start speaking up for yourself one of these days or I will speak up for you."
Clair was firm about her beliefs but had no idea how much Anabella wanted to take her advice and do as the alpha had asked her to. But her morals always held her back.
