Chapter 17: Ch 17: A Medical Emergency - Part 1

James woke up late the next morning, surprised when no one came to wake him. He panicked when he realized what time it was before he saw what day it was and relaxed.

It was Sunday, so there was no need to rush. That made the young alpha take his time and come down for breakfast.

The caretaker was preparing lunch when James walked down, and he quietly ate his food.

But the emptiness of the dining table made him question a few things. His expression must have told the caretaker what he wanted because the older woman sighed and shook her head.

"Young Master, you are far too tender-hearted. You should not wait around for someone ungrateful enough not to even come down for breakfast or lunch. Just tell me if you need anything."

The caretaker spoke softly, but her words dripped with poison when discussing Anabella.

It was clear to James that the caretaker did not like Anabella, but he had never cared about it.

However, he could not shake off the feeling of something being ’wrong’ today. His instincts kept wanting him to go and check on Anabella to ensure she was alright.

"I will go and check up on her. Aunty, I will be back soon-"

James pushed his food away as he motioned to stand up, but the caretaker was faster than him, and she pushed the plate back toward James with a harsh expression.

"Young master! I cannot allow you to do that. We need you to eat lunch so that we can leave for your extra classes. You told me you have a musical competition today, and we must prepare you for it."

The caretaker spoke harshly this time, and James did not have enough courage to say anything back to her. He knew that was not something he should be afraid of, but he was.

Any loud noise made him flinch and pull back. It was getting to the point where a single look from the caretaker was enough to make James change his mind.

"I...but checking up on Anabella will take just a minute. I just want to make sure she is fine after last night..."

James realized that he made a mistake by speaking these words. The way the caretaker’s eyes flashed told him she was a little ’too interested’ to know more about Anabella and what happened.

"Oh! Did something happen yesterday that I am not aware of? Do continue to speak, young master."

The caretaker asked, and for the first time in forever, James felt his heart skip a beat and quickly looked down.

"I-It is nothing. Please forget what I said, Aunty! Nothing happened!"

James promised in a hesitant voice. He did not want to tell the caretaker much because he felt afraid of her.

"I see! If that’s the case, then you should hurry up. We are going to be late otherwise."

The caretaker spoke these words, and James ate in record time. He quickly got ready to head out, and with one last look at the stairs to see if he could spot Anabella, he finally left the house.

James came back at dinner time, and the state of the house indicated that no one had walked downstairs for anything.

Anabella had not come out of her room the whole day, and James felt worried.

He quickly ate dinner and bid the caretaker farewell.

The older woman insisted on staying and taking care of James, but he quickly got rid of her and ran toward Anabella’s room.

But he stopped in front of her door and was hesitant to enter. He had no idea what he would say to her if he found that the Omega was only avoiding him and that she was fine otherwise.

’No, don’t think about it like that! Anabella is not that kind of person. If she were avoiding me, then she would have made it clear-’

James paused as soon as that thought came to his mind. He had no idea why and where he got this thought from, but it felt right to think this.

His conflicting thoughts almost prevented him from hearing the sound of things crashing, and he pushed open the door in panic to check inside.

The first thing he noticed was Anabella’s body lying on the ground. The female was breathing heavily and seemed to be having a hard time. Her eyes were glazed over, and her face looked flushed.

The next thing that was easy to notice was the small bedside lamp that had fallen over and broken as a result of ...whatever this was.

But what worried James the most was Anabella’s chalk-white complexion and hazy eyes. The woman looked ready to collapse and fall asleep any second.

’Oh! She is sick, so Anabella did not come down for food.’

James should have felt worried, but instead, he felt relieved that Anabella was not disregarding him.

The guilt and worry came in, causing James to flinch before he decided that he needed to do something.

"H-Hey, are you awake? Can you hear me? I am going to call a doctor. If you want anything else, then tell me now."

James asked in a panic as he kneeled beside Anabella’s fallen form. He wanted to help her up, but he did not have enough body strength,

"W-Water-! Can I get some?"

Anabella asked for water, but she was out of it. This made James panic even more, and he ended up calling his father with Anabella’s phone.

Of course, his father did not pick up, and for the first time, the kid felt angry with his father.

This was an emergency, so James decided to skip his father’s number and call the hospital directly.

He knew that this story could end up on the news, but he felt he had no other choice. The medics arrived within record time since theirs was considered as ’elite’ area. They quickly checked on Anabella before deciding she needed to head to the hospital.

However, James did not like the head medic who responded. It was the female alpha he had met in the arcade and her eyes looked at Anabella with a weird expression.
