Chapter 15: Ch 15: A call for help - Part 2
’I don’t want to move, and I don’t want to think anything either. I just want to fall asleep and not wake up for as long as I can manage.’
Anabella’s head throbbed in pain, and she clutched it before she burrowed it inside her pillow.
Her body felt cold, and her energy levels were low. Yet, despite feeling tired and lethargic, she refused to fall asleep.
Anabella snapped her eyes open after about an hour of trying to fall asleep, but there was no progress in her struggle.
Finally, she pushed herself to sit and look at her phone.
It had been turned off because Anabella did not want to deal with anyone, but the online world of the unknown and privacy called for her.
She made the foolish decision of unlocking her phone, which turned out to be a mistake on Anabella’s part.
The first thing she noticed was her mother’s missed calls, followed by the current call she was receiving, which also happened to be her mother.
’Why is Mother calling me this late? She never calls me when it is this late! Should I pick up this call?’
Anabella wondered, almost as if she had a choice in this matter.
The second she noticed her mother’s name on her phone screen, this choice was made for her.
She hesitantly picked up the phone, and her mother’s angry voice reached her ear from the other side of the phone.
"You stupid idiot! What did you do for Daniel to call and tell me to talk to you about? He did not tell me much, but he did tell me that you went out and met up with some ’alpha friends’ of yours.
Didn’t I tell you to cut any previous contact you had? You need to maintain your image as a faithful and understanding omega."
The old omega roared as soon as Anabella picked up the phone. Her voice was so loud that it made Anabella’s ear drums bleed.
Despite that, Anabella blinked calmly and decided to answer her mother’s questions.
"Mother, it’s not like that! I did not run into my classmates because we planned this. It was a coincidence, and I also had James with me when that happened. Surely, no one would mistake the situation if I had James with me?"
Anabella knew how to manipulate her stepmother to a degree, but she was not fortunate enough to always get away with it.
Even now, Anabella could tell that her stepmother was considering what Anabella had told her before she sighed and agreed.
"Fine! I guess having James there is better than nothing for your reputation. And if it was a coincidence, it cannot be helped. I won’t make a big deal out of this because nothing happened.
Make sure nothing keeps happening in the future, as well. And get yourself with a kid already. That will secure your place in that household."
It was the same message Anabella’s stepmother had given her the whole time, and Anabella smiled as she heard these words.
Anabella was not happy, and her bitter smile was proof of that. And yet, despite that, she decided to keep her mouth shut and go back to sleep.
Somehow, sleeping was much easier this time around. All Anabella had to do was close her eyes, and sleep claimed her. She did not dream of anything or wake up until sunrise.
No one came to call her for breakfast or lunch; now, it was past time for both of them.
’I should get up and eat something. But I don’t want to get up and eat. What should I do...’
Anabella tried to push her body, but she could not do that. She could feel her body breaking down and pain assaulting her senses. It felt like she was in heat, but Anabella was not.
She was not even close to her current heat, leaving her with only one possibility to consider.
’Fuck! I fell sick because of that bathroom incident. I should get up and eat and then get some medicine. I will be fine once I do that-’
Anabella reached for her phone lying on the side table, which required too much effort. Her hand just brushed against the corner before it collapsed.
Whatever energy Anabella had was sapped out of her body by her small gesture.
*Ringggg*
Something was ringing, and somewhere in the back of her mind, Anabella knew it was her phone. She needed to grab and check it but was too tired to reach it.
Her hand brushed against her phone, but that was the farthest Anabella could push herself before she lost consciousness and fell asleep.
The phone rang once, twice, before it stopped and changed the target.
Her mother had decided to call Anabella once more to clear out the air about what happened.
The older lady had called Anabella the previous day to scold her, but she cut herself off halfway. She wanted to say more to Anabella, so she called her again. But the younger lady was showing her attitude and not picking up the call now.
"Tsk, this will not do! How dare that girl try to ignore me? I will show her I am not one to be messed with."
Since Anabella had not picked up this call, the older omega had no choice but to ask her alpha to check on her.
No matter Daniel’s indifference toward Anabella, he would be forced to check on her occasionally to ensure she was alive. If not for the sake of humanity, then for the sake of the deal that had been made between the two families.
"They are both acting like willful kids. They need to swallow their pride and start getting along already. We are all tired of their bullshit."
The older omega said that, but she felt happier seeing Anabella in despair rather than seeing her happy. It satisfied a part of her that the older omega did not want to acknowledge.
