Chapter 100: Ch 100: A new place to live - Part 1
Anabella was dressed as the daughter of a wealthy family. Her clothes were fashionable, and her hands looked like they had never done much hard work.
Seeing someone like him wanting to work in the kitchen did not sit well with the old couple, and they outright wanted to reject someone like her from their kitchen. But then the female omega noticed the way Anabella’s shoulders were hunched back and how sullen her expression looked.
Plus, the luggage in her hand made it obvious that Anabella was not in the best situation anyone would first think of.
As an omega who just left their home (for whatever reason), it would be hard and dangerous for this child to be all alone.
"Child, we won’t be able to pay you much for your service, but we can provide you with a room to live in. You can work here if you feel like it is a good deal."
The old lady spoke softly as her eyes softened. She looked sorry when she looked at Layla and was ready to help her simultaneously.
It relieved Layla to see that her plan had worked and she did not need to think of a plan B for now.
"You will help me out? Thank you! You don’t know how much of a burden this has been on me since I decided to become independent. Don’t worry! I will work hard and not disappoint you."
The bakery couple just shook their head before the alpha decided to lean forward and grab Layla’s luggage.
"Let me help you with this. We live in the building behind this bakery; you can take the upper floor. It’s not like we have any use for it or anything."
The older male offered before Layla agreed, and she followed behind him to the backside.
It took her no time to climb the stairs and follow the old man. The room was dusty, and there seemed to be no clean surface inside.
Seeing this made the old man sigh and offer Anabella more help.
"Shall we clean this place up? These bones might look fragile, but I am sure they have enough strength and endurance to sustain me for a few more years. This kind of work is nothing for me."
The old man bragged, and now Anabella felt sorry for him.
As much as she wanted help with the cleanup, it would not have felt right for her to ask an old man like the one helping her out for help.
"It’s alright. If you give me a bucket and a cloth, I will be able to clean this place myself...maybe a few more cleaning supplies might also be needed. I can pay you back the cost once I earn my first paycheck..."
Anabella promised as she walked deeper into the room and swiped her hand off the table. A thick layer of black stuck to her hand, indicating that cleaning this place up would be tougher than she expected.
"Huh? What do you mean by paying us? There is no need to do that. We should be the ones to pay you to clean up this place. We have wanted to clean this place up forever but never got to it because of our busy schedule. But having you help out is a lot."
The alpha assured Layla, handing her a bucket and a few cleaning supplies.
Layla stood in the doorway with all that, waiting for the alpha to leave before she could start her cleaning. But the worried alpha kept standing there and looking at her to see if she wanted to help out or not.
"Are you sure you do not need my help? I can-"
"I am quite sure. I will make it somehow. And if I cannot, I will call and tell you about it. There is no need for you to feel worried about me."
Anabella assured him, and the alpha finally sighed before he left.
Layla felt tense until that man left, and then she let out a sigh of relief. Her eyes, which had been sure that she would be able to take care of all this, suddenly looked tense, and she pulled back her sleeve to show that she was ready for this.
"Alright, let’s get this over with. I will have a lot of fun cleaning this place up."
Anabella sighed as she entered her new home and got to work. She had a lot of cleaning to do, and by the end of the day, she had only finished the kitchen, the lobby, and the bathroom.
She was too weak to do the other two rooms and the additional bathrooms, never mind the store and the balcony.
Anabella crashed on the couch and decided to call it a day. She would get to the bedroom tomorrow...or whenever she needed to get to them. At this rate, she was unsure about what she wanted to do.
Her back felt comforted after a long and hard day of work, and before Anabella knew it, she had closed her eyes and fallen asleep. She did not wake up to even eat as her body tried to recover from the energy it had spent throughout cleaning.
So when Anabella woke up the next morning, she was beyond hungry and ready to fall.
Her feet led her down to the place where she could smell that delicious smell, and before she knew it, Anabella had entered the bakery.
It was barely 5, but the staff was already here, making cookies and other goods to sell throughout the day. Just thinking about it made Anabella’s mouth water, and she wanted to head in and get her hands on some of these goods. She felt hungry, and her stomach let out a growl of protest at the lack of food she had.
Seeing her at the door shocked a few people, but the owners quickly realized who she was and helped her inside. Before she knew it, Anabella was standing in the middle of that bakery, and her stomach growled.
